Josh Harris is clearly calling the shots now for the Devils

I wish someone like Dr. McMullen was our owner. At least he recognized genius when he saw it and didn't meddle. Lou had a plan to get us back to greatness but these 2 stooges will ruin and dismantle everything and cause us to be a laughingstock. I seriously will not and cannot watch another game. I won't root for another team because I bleed red & black. But I will just refuse to watch.

Lou being forced upstairs was the ultimate disrespect. What a joke.

Doesn't seem like a negative article to me. Quite complimentary.

But their legacies as owners are on the line now. They've done a lot of good things in two years, starting with the hiring of the two men — Scott O'Neil and Hugh Weber — who run the day-to-day operations of the franchise. The Devils have gone from bankruptcy court to a viable business again, even if Harris admitted that "this isn't a highly profitable venture for us yet."

Now it's about the product on the ice, about building a team that will give this fan base reason to hope for meaningful hockey in the spring. He said all the right things about paying the big bucks for a hot coaching candidate, but this team will be in the same spot if Harris' new GM can't upgrade its offense.

Is Harris going to be the man who eventually brings the Stanley Cup back to New Jersey for the first time in more than a decade? Or is he going to continue to oversee its irrelevance in the NHL and the local sporting scene?

Yes, it used to be easy to own the Devils. Not so much any more.

Okay, poor choice of words on my behalf. Sorry. However, if this is such a complimentary article why such negativity?

This is why you have to be worried. At least Dolan was smart enough to leave Slats alone because of his track record. Harris on the other hand..

I'm happy to see the media and some of the fanbase is finally waking up.

i'm sorry - if you have a beef with these owners, you have to be blind. a group that will look to spend on all facets of the team and arena and has the financial ability to do so while still trusting hockey people to do their job? yeah, i don't want anything to do with that.

let lou figure it out? the team is where it is right now because of lou. this was the right move at the right time.

Lou signed Clowe to a 5 yr contract, his career is probably over.  Signed Salvador to 3yr contract yup great move.  Ryder to a 2yr contract was a healthy scratch for most of last year. Took a chance on Havlet didnt work out. Missed the play 4 of the last 5 years. Most GM's would be fired, they held onto Lou so you could help the new Gm.  Yeah fvck the owners

Bingo and started by one of, if not, the biggest bashers of the owners from day 1.

That is false. I don't like Hugh Weber, he isn't an owner, or did I miss something.

I respect the owners business sense tremendously, especially Mr. Blitzer, Blackrock is a hell of a company. However, I don't think they should be involved in hockey operations. I've seen what happened firsthand with the Knicks, and vaguely remember Big Stein's crazy trades before he was banned from baseball.

He hired a new GM and, for all intents and purposes, fired the old one. That's generally what owners do. He gave no indication that he'll be making personnel decisions, except to say what was glaringly obvious that the team needs forwards.

You have been bashing the owners too.

You are comparing apples to oranges in regards to the Knicks. 4 missed playoffs in 5 years is our track record since the start of the new decade. How many other NHL owners would give their GM that much of a leash? How many other owners would instead let that same person remain the head of operations?

I respect Lou for everything he has done but after 28 years even the best sometimes lose their touch. It was time for Lou.

thank you. OP I get that you are loyal to Lou, I'm a loyal person as well and I'm as big a supporter of his as there is, but please stop with this agenda you seem to have. The owners have done everything a fan could ask. Lou has had mixed results at best over the past 3 years, this day was going to happen sooner or later.

Sather...that's about it, but Dolan's getting the last laugh on that one.

What plan was that?

You can bring up Sather, but if the Rangers lose this round and possibly Jeff Gorton to another team...what's to say Sather won't remain as President and let Gorton take over? Sather is also a smidge younger too than Lou.

They'd be terrible owners if they weren't looking towards the future with a 72 y/o GM. It's one thing if they were Cup contenders today, then you can say let Lou see it out - but they aren't - so why wait?
