I gotta give the Devs credit, we are finally making up some ground. The only thing I care about is the very slim shot we have at the 5th pick. 6-9 I really couldn't give a sh!t where we pick. If we can get in the top five, we at least have a shot that Strome falls to us.

i want the Devils to lose out, not to get a higher draft pick, but to show Lou that Oates can't be here next year.  The zone entries are a goddamn disaster on this team and it isn't just the lack of forward talent killing them.  Goal #1 is exactly what we don't need - a terrible, no chance dump in by Gelinas, the Canes D has all kinds of time but doesn't get it high enough, Cammalleri makes a great play and Elias gets a lucky deflection - it's the last thing this team needs is lucky goals like that.

Well, Oates getting hired with Lou on the bench and in almost every meeting should be the litmus test if he is lucid or not. I'd know 100% he should be fired right then and there.

I was out and checked the scoring twice. Was pissed when they took a 1-0 lead, and couldn't stop smiling when I saw they lost 3-1.

With Oates the question for me is, what exactly did Lou frame this job offer as when he brought in Stevens and Oates? It's difficult for me to believe that he said, "Listen, come back to coach this team for the rest of the year, but then after that you probably have to go." But I also really can't believe that Lou is looking at how this team is performing under Oates/Stevens, and saying, "Wow, this is working." We know that Lou believes this issue begins with offense, he's said that the team needs two forwards. I just hope that Lou doesn't believe that that's all the team needs and that Oates can succeed with the right players. I mean, this offense has sucked under Oates.  Looking at the team in the most simplistic terms, under DeBoer the Devils scored 2.17 G/GP (78 G/36 GP) this year, under Oates the Devils have scored 2.28 G/GP (89G/39GP). Both of those numbers would put as at 28th in the league in goals for (which is obviously where we stand today). We literally have not improved at all offensively.

Some games under Oates, we have been unable to control the puck in the offensive zone, or even get into the offensive zone for entire games. There were some games in January that were the worst Devils hockey I have ever seen. I have faith that Oates won't be the HC next year, but he very well may be an assistant. After all, right when he was hired, while discussing Lou's phone call asking him to come back and coach, Oates said,

"The answer was yes. It didn’t matter what my responsibilities were. The answer was yes."

Agree 100%. Your take on the odds of the following scenarios:

Oates becoming the head coach

Oates staying on as a assistant

Oates being shown the door

Stevens becoming the head coach

Stevens staying on as an assistant

Stevens not returning at all

Lou looking outside for another fresh face to try and turn this mess around. Granted imo the only way anybody has a shot at making this team significantly better is if Lou unfuks the majority of the forward mess that exists today.

My take is both Oates and Stevens stay and he hopefully reaches out to someone from the outside. To me Oates brings nothing significant even as an assistant. Stevens imo hasn't proven anything either way but probably gets to stay which is OK.

Stating the obvious without Cory being phenomenal for most of the season this roster would be even more exposed, it's probably also unfair to expect him to play at this level next year, hopefully he does because they're probably going to need it to possibly contend for the 7-10 spot. Hopefully Lou unless he moves can unfuk the mess he's made up front because without that it's gonna hard to make much of anything better in the end.

I figured I would leave a comment just so this thread got to two pages. Nothing to see here.......

I was curious to see how demoralized the board was so I posted that goaltending was killing this team, which only got 2 responses. Next stop, draft. I am pretty confident I will be able to post this again a year from now.
