I am happy this happened. It's a big break for a financially struggling hockey team. I don't know do I care if they paid off the debt completely or picked up the payments on some of it. I don't care if the NHL wrote off any of the debt owed to them. I don't care is the lawyer that loaned $30M got $35M in return. I just want a competitive hockey team and we have the chance to be one now because financial restrictions have been lifted.

Lets Go Devils

No more Krezwick? Woo hoo! new boss time! :)

I think Rich did alright I mean, he was great at pushing social media within the organization when the head of marketing saw it as a waste. We have such a young fanbase, why the **** wouldn't you?! But that marketing guy was a huge MORON and was counterproductive to the cause. Fought Rich on that stuff all the time

Scott O'Neil seems like the ultimate sales and marketing dude. He was very direct that he wants the Devils to be a catalyst for sponsorship and outreach to the community. All you had to do was hear him speak to feel the energy he will bring.. People are worried about him splitting time between the Devils and 6ers but really, they wouldn't have hired him if he couldn't handle both, and more importantly he now gets to market an arena not just a tenant in one. No doubt he'll also want to sort of stick it to MSG his old employer by showing how great he can sell the Devils brand in NJ (and who knows, maybe even NYC on a corporate level. We do shop there too!)

Because as I said Vanderbeek said so

So did Wirtz in Chicago.. Hey man glad you are happy, it's a great day for the franchise! :gd:

These guys seem certainly too good to be true.

Like CR1976 I am just waiting for some skeletons to come out of the closet.  However I will just take it at face value right now and enjoy this news.

Totally - real nice to have stability for the first time in years.

hopefully they'll push a little so that camp is open to public and sh!t like that... it's 2013 and Lou is way too old school and obnoxious about his vision of what is "distraction" to the players. It's bullsh!t really, Toews and Kane just won the cup and they've been doing a sh!t ton of off ice stuff and all those things that Lou forbid.

Interesting note - Scott O'Neil will be CEO of Devils Arena Entertainment (the off-ice operations/marketing arm of the Devils and Prudential Center) but Hugh Weber, the former New Orleans Hornets president, will be the everyday business leader in Newark.

Looks like Harris is bringing in a really strong, experienced group and providing the resource$ to make it all work!

Feels like VBK was the little engine that really really REALLY wanted to, but simply didn't have the horsepower, and Harris is the big engine that flat-out can and will.

Agreed. There's a time for tradition and all that and then there's the need to get with the times. The hair/facial hair policy (yeah I really don't want a Hartnell or some guy with a caveman beard playing for us, but letting them grow a short beard if they want shouldn't be off limits, especially if it's kept neat) is old, the number policy, the lack of 3rd jersey...hiding training camp from the public except for special STH - only events. Kind of singles out the fan who can't afford season tickets but is a huge fan (or could become one) of the team and would like a little perk now and again... They gotta do more to not be so secretive and clandestine about what they do to prepare...people want to see that.

I actually like the facial hair policy and the policy on no 3rd jerseys.  The number policy and hiding practices from the public I agree with you.

I agree on the hair and 3rd jersey policies.  I thought keeping the practices closed to the public was done because they didn't want to keep security guards on duty to prevent the public from entering the arena.  Maybe now with the new owners, that policy will change.

I spoke with Weber today, he seems like a real stand up guy. Good sense of humor too.

I like how you complain about fans who can't afford season tickets. And then complain that there aren't third jerseys. Lous whole stand against third jerseys is that he doesn't want to waste the fans money by giving them another jersey to buy.

For the umpteenth time...the practices are closed to the public due to security concerns. There's no conspiracy or agenda or deliberate attempt to shut fans out.

I don't believe that for a minute (I know that's the stated cover story), South Mountain wasn't exactly well-protected.  They just didn't have personal control over the South Mountain arena policy the way they do on this one.

While I agree the team could be more open, I'll be mighty upset if the number policy changes. Maybe I've just gotten so used to it, but it feels unwieldy to see teams with random 62s and 78s and 91s. The occasional high number for a superstar associated with it (Jagr/68) is fine, but I rather like not having numbers over 40.

I agree with the second part. They rented out a public facility, so while they did have some control they couldn't fully dictate a facility run by the county.

But, the current place, i agree with their story.  From having been in there enough for a variety of events I know of one door for sure (possibly 2 or more) that lead to either the main rink or to other areas of the Rock. The practice rink was meant to be accessable from the Rock itself. These doors are not locked due to fire safety rules and ease of access for staff. If they do not hire security, nothing prevents someone from wandering through these doors.

At SMA the only concern was fans actually walking into the locker room thorugh the main door. Back in the day, nothing prevented you from doing so. However, in later years they finally gated the walkway in front of the bleachers adjacent to the door to the ice.
