Daniel
It's embarrassing the same way that a John Sterling canned homerun call is embarrassing. Both the you suck chanters and Sterling are trying to be clever, when in actuality they're just being infantile and insecure. More infantile and insecure than worrying about what other people chant? If you don't like it, don't chant it. I don't chant any of that stuff because I don't like it. But i don't see the point in being a fun Nazi to people enjoying themselves. It's a hockey game, not the 3 Tenors. Hey, I'm not the one resorting to booing my own team after scoring a goal because I don't get to say my little chant that annoyed half the arena to begin with. Devil Dan 56
Hey, I'm not the one resorting to booing my own team after scoring a goal because I don't get to say my little chant that annoyed half the arena to begin with. Annoyed half the arena? How? Most of the arena chanted it every game, and a lot of them booed the Bon Jovi song. Just because you or I don't like it doesn't make it unpopular. NJDevs4978
Yeah I think if last night proved anything, it proved the goal song didn't tick off anywhere NEAR half the arena, and the one last night pretty much ticked off 95% of it. Mike Brown
Yes, I am. I will talk to the CEO in the next meeting we have if it's not resolved by then. I think a song like Hells Bells would be perfect. Make sure you mention this. We play Blurred Lines. A song which is pretty much about having your way forcibly with a woman. We play You Gotta Fight...which has the porno line. We play that Icona Pop song which has the lyric: "You're from the 70s but I'm a 90s bitch" Those are all OK but "Hey You Suck" must be censored at all costs. I just... I don't even know where to begin. It's a major hypocricy if we are playing songs that are just as bad (harmless really) as the goal song. It has nothing to do with the profanity or offensiveness. Oh so it has to do with being down a few goals right? Ok so as said NUMEROUS TIMES chanting "This Is Our House" being down 4-2 provides the same result with an annoyed crowd. Or does it have to do with the fact that a select few are "embarrassed". Well sorry yelling at hockey games is embarrassing to you. For the love of god dude! We've been through this already! "This is our house" is a perfect rallying cry or chant or song. What do you not understand about this?!
Legion15
Those are all OK but "Hey You Suck" must be censored at all costs. No, it doesn't. So tired of people wanting "class" and censorship at games. saw this suggested on Facebook... would be funny for a chuckle if we used it Edited October 6, 2013 by Legion15
PWW
Only good thing about the new song is that it's the perfect rhythm to be made fun of. "This song sucks (insert expletive of choice here, I personally prefer ass)." If it hasn't changed by the next home game I am absolutely gonna have fun with this abomination. Mike Brown
I have some questions. 1. Is there any kind of compromise we can agree to? How about we play Rock and Roll 2 for every goal that puts us in the lead? That way it doesn't look bad when we chant "you suck". 2. If you don't like number 1. Does the chant HAVE to be "you suck"? There has to be a better chant we can do that gives positive reinforcement to the Devils. 3. Would you guys be ok if the players picked their own goal song? There has to be some way to make at least 95% of the fanbase happy. We're all Devils fans here. We'll clash at times, but we all want what's best for the organization. We all love this team. Chances are I've already interacted with some of you, and I've never had one bad experience at the Rock. And I've been to around 20-25 games since the place opened. This is a great fanbase that's still growing. I don't like this divide that's being created over a goal song.
yort44
Hey, the "you suck" chant is all on the shoulders of the opposing team. Shut out NJ and you won't have to hear it. Blame the prolific NJ offense for making this an issue.

devlman
I guess if the rangers are ever ahead of us in the standings we can't do the whistle and rangers suck chant huh? I hate to break it to you, but based on the response at opening night, I'd say about 95% of the fanbase has already made their decision. I think you're underestimating just how far in the minority you are on this one.

I think you're underestimating just how far in the minority you are on this one. I thought that was mainly because the new song was terrible. And how bout instead of you guys telling us what we should take when we're embarrassed, you get *slightly* creative if you wanna yell stuff? You're basically at the level of discourse of 6 year olds. I don't mind if it's nasty or uses bad words or anything, just please make it interesting or creative.
Beezer34
I can't believe there are 27 pages to this thread. ..seriously. It's over.. put it to bed. To carryon like this is like a child taking a temper-tantrum when they can't take no for an answer. You're going to boo after your team just scored a goal because you're angry about not being able to chant; "you suck!" ..and you call yourself a fan?! --let alone an adult? The Devils can play Nights in White Satin after they score for all I care.. just so long as they score. --and if your excitement ceases 8 seconds after because a song comes on that doesn't tickle your fancy.. to the point where you actually boo, you really should blush as a "fan"
Devilsfan118
Daniel you're way off on this one. You're over analyzing this, comically so. Stop taking this so seriously, it's a goal chant. You don't go to sports games to prove how mature you can be.

"This Is Our House" sounds just as silly being down 4-1 because the score is still the same. The main difference is 95% of the fanbase have a preference towards one horn. Go through this thread and you'll see that you and perhaps...one or two other people actually like the new horn but everyone else thinks it's horrible. So what? The Devils should make YOU happy because you don't like it? Also. Chanting "Sucks" during pre-game intros = OK. After goals? Not OK? Wanna take away the intros as well MB? Beezer gets it. The booing killed any excitement I and many other fans had. I don't think the majority of people booed either. What's louder: 13,000 fans not making noise or 4,000 screaming and booing? Edited October 6, 2013 by SMantzas
Legion15
I resent someone challenging my calling myself a fan or an adult. No one was booing the team, they were booing the song. period. It's about tradition, and whatever the reasons were for changing it, it's still breaking tradition, breaking something this team stands for. I'm sure lots of the Boos were actually Bruuuuuner chants. "Hey you suck" sounds silly when the Devils score a goal, give their fans something to celebrate and the attention is on the opposition's failures. The 20-something children (let's face it....this group are the ones chanting it and defending it the most) and the other man-children are casting the attention on the other team. Your team scores and you are more passionate that you can/can't chant a elementary school level insult at the other team! Not only does it not end there, but then act like complete fools on social media trying to defend this behavior like it's even remotely unique or creative. "This is our house", even as lame as it is (and i dislike Bon Jovi, never saw the "sexiness" or appeal in JBJ) at least tries to keep the attention on the Devils (or tries to) up 4-1 or down 4-1. Want to chant "you suck" during intros? That's the time to do so. If you don't understand the difference between doing that and taking the attention off the Devils after they score a goal....then you will never get it like so many others don't in your age group. How about this? During intros after you cheer a Devils player's name becuase you support them....chant "you suck" right after. Hey, you're all doing it after they scorewhen you're supporting them why not cover all the bases?
RunninWithTheDevil
all of you are seriously fvcking ridiculous. just reading all this existensial BULLSH1T about a fvcking goal song not being "classy" or "celebrating the other teams failures" you all sound like a goddamn college-level philosophy class. ITS A FVCKING CHANT to celebrate a goal I DONT THINK ANYONE ELSE THINKS "HEY the devils just scored, this chant TOTALLY means that we are taking the attention off the devils" give me a fvcking break. Youre taking this sh!t waaaaaay to literally. Its a goddamn hockey game. changing the song back to RRp2 was one of the few things the devils have done right to the fans in these past few seasons, and if 2 little words after HEY really piss you off that much then dont go. you look like a fvcking idiot if you're actually debating the semantecs of this to THAT extent. Casting the attention on the other team MY ASS. We are celebrating like Jerseyans its the most JERSEY chant ever. We are Jersey right? As for the people saying that the Devils shouldnt have to cater to us......... uhhh, yeah, the fvcking should, they aren't paying me are they? we pay them. so yeah they should do what the fans want. morons. /rant
