Operation Hat Trick charity hockey game - Brodeur vs. Lundqvist

Great stuff tonight. Marty had a lot of good saves but Hank stole the show, I cant even explain some of the saves he pulled off. It was great to have all of these fanbases watch hockey in peace and have a good time. First chant of the night was 'we love hockey' and 'we want hockey.' It was a good time.

Many people came to see this game, I saw Red Wings jerseys, Canucks, Ducks, Sharks, Lightning, Bruins, and a Blue Jacket jersey!

I was at the game last night at it was an amazing experience. Just really great to have any form of hockey back, especially with a bunch of NHL pros. Walking around AC during the day it was very cool to see lots of people in hockey apparel (jerseys, hats, shirts, etc). And at least in my case, everyone kinda gave one another a 'nod' when they saw them wearing some kind of hockey team item as if to say "I don't care what team you like just as long as we get to see hockey." The game itself was pretty wild; i was fortunate enough to be able to get seats right on the glass. It was very much an all-star game atmosphere with guys messing with one another, smiling, laughing, not a ton of defense and having a lot of fun. I've been to many games before but never been to a game before with seats this good so it really was a site to see (i was in the away team corner). I have to say, watching Lundqvist was a sight to see. He played out of his mind at times, like he's still in playoff mode. But as always it was a awesome to see Marty flash the leather and handle the puck in his own end. He even got an assist on an Andy Greene top shelf goal. Lot of cheers to bring back hockey and a couple to fire Bettman. And the usual 'Marty' sing-song chants but all in good fun at this point. Daniel Alfredsson waved at me which was cool and Matt Martin (islanders) and Lundqvist all threw their sticks in the crowd afterwards. Alfie skated right to me and tossed his stick over but signaled to give it to the small kid behind me so i was happy to oblige. Here are a few photos from the game...

The boys came out late to the VIP room. Actually, Andy Greene and a few others came out almost right away, literally crossed the velvet ropes and I think it was Andy that said " we're not doing this" and turned right around and left. I think PK Subban was with him. Hartnell and Clarkson was there later, albeit Clarkson was only there very briefly, ala Sunset Strip style. The atmosphere was awesome at this once in a lifetime event. The Queen put on quite a performance. Watching Jody Shelley trying to play with skilled boys was downright funny.

Good time had by all.

Had a blast, great atmosphere and the only time things will ever be somewhat civil considering the teams' fanbases that were in attendance elbow-to-elbow. The "We want hockey!" chants every 10 minutes should have been a nice message to the players.

As for Marty, he didn't make it too easy for us to wear the Devils jersey during the first period (4 goals in 10 shots) haha... But he obviously knows how a charity game works and you could tell he really didn't stress himself to play his heart out. Something tells me Henrik didn't get the memo, as he looked like he was in ECF Game 5 mode until I think they gave him a speech during the first intermission to turn it down a notch... The Rangers players looked like they had something to prove, while Marty was more than happy to give it to them. If you think I'm overreacting, imagine this: Dan Girardi even dove down to block a shot at some point in the second period haha...

The Flyers fans were more than happy to playfully jeer the Devils fans over Marty's performance, completely ignoring the fact that two Devils (and several non-Flyers) were the ones to score. On the way out, someone even screamed out "I bet Devils fans are praying the lockout continues because Marty looks TERRIBLE!", and I said "Yeah, and I bet you need the extra time for your butt to heal after the playoffs" and some Rangers fans laughed... All in good fun, I had a great time, and it was an unforgettable evening for everyone involved, I'm sure!

The game was great and yeah, Hank definitely stole the show. Thought Clarky looked great out there as well.

As for the Dusk after party, I only got to see Lundqvist and JVR before getting kicked out. Henrik was signing and taking pictures with the fans. I took a pic of JVR and then things went stale. Apparently he didn't like getting his picture taken. Immediately after I snapped a picture of him (pretty sure he didn't even have a drink in his hand), he approached me and tried ripping my phone out of my hand. After a few seconds of me trying to prevent him from grabbing it, a bouncer stepped in, took my phone, and deleted the picture. I then said to JVR, "It's not a big deal. You're not a big deal." He responded, "What? I can knock you out." After that, the bouncer escorted me out and that was that. I'm not sure what got into him and I'm pretty sure there was no policy prohibiting pictures, but oh well. It was still a good event nontheless and my friends and I had a blast.

Nice. They advertise the players were going to be at Dusk after the game, and the players promptly holed up in the VIP area away from the fans for a majority of it and then get pissy when people approach them. Again this is after a fvcking CHARITY game.

This is why I do not go running to every single signing a player does, even if he is a Devil. Too many times I stand in line and get a guy who acts like he is miserable that he is beig paid to sit there and sign his name a couple hundred times.

Exactly. I stood outside of that VIP area for a while and most of the players stayed in there with the bouncers being very strict on who was allowed in. Like I said, Hank was great. He came out to sign and take pics more than a few times. I can only speak for the 2-3 hours I was there, though. It could have opened up a little later on.
