thefiestygoat
Albany Notes: Defenseman Jay Leach, who hasn’t played since Nov. 5 because of a lower-body injury, may return to the Albany lineup this week. The Devils have home games Wednesday (vs. Syracuse), Friday (vs. Worcester) and Saturday (vs. Springfield).Captain Stephen Gionta, who missed the road trip with an upper-body injury, and forward Vladimir Zharhov, who has missed the past three games because of illness, are expected to play Wednesday night. Defenseman Matt Corrente, sidelined since Nov. 11 with an upper-body injury, will not return this week, Kowalsky said. Forward Steve Bernier, who injured his thumb late in the Dec. 4 home game against Rochester, likely won’t return until at least mid-January. “He’s quietly been a big leader for us in many ways, and he plays a lot of minutes,” Kowkasky said. “That’s a tough loss. We’re looking at a minimum of four weeks.” ECHL Action: Kalamazoo defeated Cincinnati 4-2: Young (E, 5 PIM - Fighting), Haczyk (Goal, +1, 4 Shots), and Clermont did not play. thefiestygoat
Albany defeated Binghamton 3-0. Scoring for the Devils was Sova (Sislo and Zharkov), Zharkov (Whitney and Anderson), and Palmieri (EN, Mills and Zharkov). Kinkaid stopped all 36 shots he faced and earned 1st star. Zharkov's 3 point night earned him 2nd star. Former Devil Mike McKenna earned 3rd star stopping 41 of 43 shots. Corrente returned to the line up for the 1st time since November 11, ending up a +1 for the night. Timo Pielmeier was called up to back up Kinkaid since Frazee suffered a hand injury in the last game. Frazee's injury doesn't seem to be anything to worry about. Here is the gamesheet. Highlights below: Zharkov: 20 GP 3 G 11 A 14 Pts +1 9 PIM 8.82 SH% Their next game is Monday against Binghamton at 7:05. Kalamazoo lost to Cincinnati 5-1: Haczyk (-1, 2 Shots) and Clermont (41 Saves on 46 Shots). Kalamazoo managed just 14 shots the whole game so it doesn't seem like Clermont had much of a chance. nessus
Zharkov leading the team in points/game? Must be some kind of miracle. He actually looks pretty good in that highlight video, creating a couple chances there. I wonder if he'll have another shot with the big club again this season. But as long as he's staying in the Devils' system, maybe some time in Albany is best for him.

thefiestygoat
Albany Notes Forward Chad Wiseman injured his groin Monday night in an 8-3 loss at Binghamton, and defenseman Matt Corrente strained a hamstring Tuesday night as the Devils fell at Connecticut, 3-2.Goaltender Jeff Frazee, who hyperextended his left elbow in a 2-1 victory over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Dec. 18, has practiced the past two days. Kowalsky said he wants to get Frazee more ice time before using him in a game, meaning rookie Keith Kinkaid likely will get both weekend starts. Forward Nathan Perkovich, who hasn’t played since a 3-2 shootout loss to Springfield on Dec. 17 because of an upper-body injury, also has been skating. Kowalsky likely will hold out Perkovich until next week because he wants to give him more practice time.

nessus
Wow I wonder when Zharkov's skill will finally translate to the NHL. I'm really hoping that he's our next call up; he seems to be deserving of a chance. Those Manchester highlights look pretty good too. ohms law
eh... for Zharkov to get a call up, he needs to take the place of a top 9 forward (he's not the right kind of player to play on the 4th line). I suppose the Devils could send Tendenby down and bring him up for a look.
thefiestygoat
Some roster updates and an all-star selection: http://blog.timesunion.com/hockey/devils-return-goaltender-pielmeier-to-echl/10570/ 1/2 The New Jersey Devils have reassigned goaltender Timo Pielmeier from AHL Albany to ECHL Elmira, indicating that Jeff Frazee has been cleared to return to the A-Devils’ lineup. http://blog.timesunion.com/hockey/devils-swap-stoesz-for-berube/10593/ 1/4 Left wing J.S. Berube has been reassigned to the Albany Devils on loan from Trenton, and left wing Myles Stoesz has been sent to the ECHL team, the New Jersey Devils announced today. I'm happy to see Berube get the call up, he's been putting up points in Trenton. 16 GP 2 G 11 A 13 Pts +3 26 PIM 4.65 SH% http://blog.timesunion.com/hockey/taormina-selected-as-devils-all-star-representative/10601/ 1/4 Defenseman Matt Taormina, who currently is with New Jersey, has been selected as the Albany Devils’ representative to the American Hockey League’s all-star game Jan. 31 in Atlantic City. The selection of an NHL player such as Taormina, who had four goals and eight assists in 23 games for Albany, is not unusual for the AHL game. If Taormina is still with New Jersey the week of the game, the AHL will request permission to allow him to go. Since the NHL’s all-star break virtually coincides with the AHL’s, permission generally is granted.
vadvlfan
Just got home form the game at the Scope. Wow! Down 4-0 going into the 3rd, they forechecked their way way, pulled Frazee, Millsy won the draw clean back to kelly to Gelinas, thread the needle why don't you. And scored on a pp in OT. Admiral fans obviously pissed, (thought the trip was bs of course-) you see who the go to guys are. 2 lines and 4 d the whole OT period. I watched everybody and here's my assessment; Best D men- Urbominator/Gelinas/Kelly/Harrold weak- Burlon (turnover machine-dear in the head lights- Sova-had a horrible game- Forwards- Hoefful/Palmieir-Nagy, played greart in 3rd Anderson centered Villeux(sp)Whitney (he played pt on pp-homey can shoot) Gionta, Mills and Perkovich and 4th line had Berube (couldn't keep up) Overall, I was needless ot say bummed and planned on leaving halfway htrough the 3rd, but we scored, early exit still on. Couple minutes later boom another. The bench erupted and all around me people were beginning to feel Oh Sh>t moment like this game was in the bag, and started yelling at the players. I was proud of my boys tonight. Wish I could go tommorw night.

vadvlfan
Gelinas has a funny way of skating, but has very good wheels. Kinda "bowl legged" but very quick as is Urbom. Both mobile.
