KINGS, DEVILS TALKING TRADE?

The Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils are believed to have engaged in recent trade discussions, prompting each team to dispatch its scouting staff to watch the other club.It has been widely reported that the Devils have an interest in Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier, however sources close to the Kings told TFP the team is not interested in moving him, at this point, barring a substantial offer.

I read this yesterday, and it may as well have read 'Kings, Devils may make trade, or may not do so.'

McGuire did mention that the Kings people were at last night's game, so at least that part of it is true. As for Kings I'd be interested in, I wouldn't mind Justin Williams, but I can't really see a fit in a deal here.

I don't see NJ making any moves at this time. The team is playing relatively well all things considered, and Zajac is likely to be back within the next month. However, if we can't re-sign Parise by the trade deadline, then I could see us making a deal with LA for Bernier, Voyunov, or both coming back our way in exchange for the captain.

Holding on to Zach though HAS to be Lou's #1 priority, any team would LOVE him (and we can't allow the Rangers or Flyers to get their paws on him!)

Last night in the pregame one idiot said that he sees Zach going to Pittsburgh....could you imagine? I would just stop watching the NHL all together at that point. Parise, Crosby and Malkin. fvck that noise.

Yeah the talking heads on VS during the pregame almost unanimously proclaimed Parise was gone at the end of the season. It's like they love taunting Devils fans.

Єklund (2.3% accurate):

Devils and Kings?

The teams have been talking, but I get the impression this deal is a deal that is down the line and contingent on how each team does...according to one source, "The Kings have huge interest in Parise, but nothing will happen until the deadline approaches and the asking price would be a goalie and a top 6 forward."

it would make no sense to name parise captain and then trade him. right now it looks like the devils will be within striking distance of the playoffs, so i think a parise trade is very unlikely.

yeah, but he's UFA at the end of the season, we have to keep him from going somewhere else. Plenty of teams will be throwing money at him, Lou has to make him a Godfather-style deal to keep his thoughts here

If hes going to go at the end of the season then we should get something in return for him rather then letting him just walk. We all know that we arent going to be the highest bidder for Zach, itll come down to whether or not the money will talk or if he really is happy here and pulls an Elias.

Atlanta, if they had been making the playoffs the year they traded Kovy, would probably have been better off losing Kovy to free agency than making the trade with the Devils. They have an ok prospect, an overpaid defenseman, and a guy who can't stick with any team he's on.

A playoff team is better off with the extra time and playoff time with their star player and then taking the full cap relief, if they don't re-sign him.
