Interesting Happenings down south

Wearing our old colors on St. Pats 'cause they have green in them doesn't make it a 3rd jersey. Teams don't wear 3rd jerseys once a year. I'm all for a third.

I don't like the beast logo either, but that design with a cool looking devil head would be pretty awesome. Or even a Jersey a Devil tie-in of some sort.

Our jerseys are classic, I wouldn't take them away, but I'd love to see a third.

I've always very much liked the Devils' jerseys (especially the red and black...that was a terrific refresh at the time), but I'm not opposed to a re-design.  I don't think the current jerseys are so iconic or mindblowing that they're completely untouchable for all time.

That being said, I'm not sure what new design would sing to me.  I wouldn't want overdone fancy fonts or something too busy.  I'm fine with an actual Devil being on the front, as long as it's not something too cheesy or over-the-top.

The problem with this will be that, no matter what designers come up with, some faction of the Devils fanbase won't like it, and there's a good chance it will be the majority who doesn't like it.  For every solid re-design or mild updating, there's a Fishstick Fischlers or a Buff-a-slug that turns out to be a complete disaster.

I always like how teams change the color of the logo itself, to offset the palette scheme of the jersey(s). --example: How Toronto has a white leaf for their home uniforms, and a blue one when they play away. Calgary has also done this in the past.. with: red, white, yellow, and even black 'C logos.

I'd like to see something like this as the main logo for the crest of the front on Devils home jersey's. They can leave our away one's the way they are.

I think a change for the Devils is inevitable. It peaks fans interests, and it's an easy money maker for the big-wigs.

I would be good with a design similar to current team canada jersey with D E V I L S written in diagonal block and maybe to logo patch on the shoulders.

I've thought before if you took the 2004 Eastern Conference All Star jerseys and changed "Eastern" to "Devils" or even "New Jersey", then put the primary logo on both shoulders instead of one, and eliminate the stars, it'd be pretty cool.

if the picture was black and white, at first glance I would've thought it was a Rags jersey

A primarily black jersey without the circle and white background behind the logo would look nice. With the whole "Jersey's team" theme, maybe just the J in stead of the N as well would make for something different.

something like this actually, but a little more black in the mix. Get rid of the white piping, and make the red a lot smaller. Make the shoulders all black too.

Also, it might be stupid, or impossible, but maybe add the flame design from Marty's helmet at the bottom of the jersey, and on the ribs. Probably would need permission from Marty's artist though.

What about the cartoony River Rats jerseys in the 90's? Lou personally vetoed the black version of the Albany jerseys that they were going to wear as well as the 10th anniversary jersey in 2002-03 season where the main logo was an X and instead they used a small patch.

This is exactly one of the main reasons why many fans are welcoming a change when it comes to Lou. The axiom against marketing campaigns, and promotional revenue may've worked in 1992. It doesn't fly anymore with annual fiscal figures for a business in 2015.

I am all about promotions and marketing, but when it comes to special event jerseys and third jerseys, they have to be careful.  You don't want to end up like some NHL teams who seem to change their jerseys around every 3 years and for every good third jersey I have seen, there are about 10 third jerseys that look like trash.

I do think Devils getting a 3rd jersey is inevitable (not counting the retros as a 3rd).  I thought it will come as soon as Lou is completely out of the picture in regards to anything with the Devils.  However, if the GM change was initiated by the owners I do not think they will be hesitant to initiate a 3rd jersey program if Lou likes it or not.

Oh for Christ sake just make a damn "WHAAAAAAAAAAH I HATE THE NEW OWNERS! I HATE CHANGE! I MISS MY LOU!!!!" thread already

i dont see it as that at all. i see it as fans putting more value in a gm whos a proven winner vs a third jersey

A proven winner who has lost his touch.  I am not saying that to knock Lou, but the last 5 years outside of the flukey 2012 run has not been kind of him.  Not going to totally blame it on him as there were plenty of circumstances that were well beyond his control in that time, but his solutions aren't very encouraging.  His comment about being one or two forwards away from being a competitor was pretty scary to read and is more evidence he is not exactly seeing things the way they should be seen.  Also his constant fallback on re-signing former Devils players are not exactly creative nor encouraging either.

I appreciate Lou for his nearly 30 years in the GM chair for the Devils.  He has brought us 3 cups, 5 EC championships and tons of other awards and I don't think anyone will even try to take that away from him.  It was just time to move on and try something else.

Bingo. No one's questioning Lou’s resume on-ice. We're specifically talking about his off-ice commandments, and how the: Doctrine According to Lou became long in the tooth. It's one thing for a team to have ethics and ideals, however - it's quite another when your ideology jettisons fan enthusiasm.. and like it or not, that's what MANY of Lamoriello's “principals” did, for nearly 30 years. Maybe all the glitz of a Bobble Head Night meant nothing to Lou. Or fans being welcomed into the pavilion to watch their favorite players practice. Or the ballyhoo of having a 3rd jersey. It stands to reason that people will have differencing opinions. I understand that. You know who else could care less when it comes to an alternate jersey? --my Father. But Dad is a 67 year old man.. and THAT'S exactly how Lamoriello markets this team. He promotes it as if the majority of Devil supporters, are zealot aficionados in their 50's & 60's. To those enthusiasts who don't want a 3rd jersey, I have an easy solution…. don't buy one! Simple as. But the vast majority of the fanbase shouldn't have to suffer as a result of the minorities opinion(s).

Thankfully, it appears that Scott O’Neil and Hugh Weber are fully onboard with the paradigm shift that needs to transpire, in regards to retail and marketing this team appropriately.. and are taking the necessary steps towards that direction.

How is it off topic?  It started as a sarcastic way of bringing up how the owners may do a 3rd jersey and people have talked about it.  If you don't like it, don't click on the thread instead of complaining to close the thread.  Gulitti himself said he had more tweets about 3rd jerseys than even the possible composition of the roster with all the front office changes.

Sorry you can't understand but that's OK

I never understand why people think threads should be closed because they don't like the direction it turned. If you want to do that, start your own forum, otherwise get over it and join the conversation or leave it.

BN has a thing where if the thread is in any way not about on-ice issues/news, then the thread is not worth his/her time and should be closed.  Not the first time BN has done this and I doubt it will be the last.

Also the thread was indeed started as a sarcastic swipe at the owners and their possible future marketing and retail strategy with the Devils.  So for BN to say it is off-topic is silly and untrue.

Not even opening links beetle posts because at this point I can predict what they're going to be about. But I'm also definitely not wasting any time on a deadspin article. I'm sorry but if that's a site you are referencing then it reflects quite poorly on you arguments and/or state of mind.

As far as 3rd jerseys go I'd prefer to stay away, honestly at this point it's more unique and edgy to not have them. But in not going to go crazy angry if they do go that route, so long as they're not totally gross.
