Terms Per TG:

Zajac signed a four-year contract for a total of $15.55 million or an average -- and cap hit of -- $3,887,500. It pays him $2.75 million in 2009-10, $3.5 million in 2010-11, $4.5 million in 2011-12 and $4.8 million in 2012-13.

Can someone give me a brief rundown on how Front or Back Loaded contracts affect the cap. Is it just structured that way for Tradeability in younger guys and the retirement hit for guys that sign at 34 into the retirement years?

It doesn't really change how the cap works. The cap hit is the average yearly salary for the length of the contract. How that can affect tradeability is that in front loaded contracts, teams that want to spend less can acquire guys whose cap hits are larger than the actual salary they make. This could allow a team to reach the salary cap minimum while paying less actual dollars out to their players than the cap minimum.

Someone who signs a contract before 35 will have their cap hit removed if they retire. Players who retire who signed a contract at 35 or older will have their yearly cap hit stay on a teams salary cap until the contract expires.

Simple enough Thanks... (So the flyers are stuck with Prongers Numbers since he is 35?) Unless someone wants to reach min cap and just pay him crap at the end of his contract?

It looks like it.

Apparently the Flyers thought they had signed him before age 35 but by the rules of the CBA his contract kicks in when he is 35 so Prongers cap hit will always be around. I would imagine the Flyers might try for arbitration on it but it would seem like they'd lose since the rules are clear and it was their own misunderstanding.

Sounds fair. Good contract

the devils could've signed jay bouwmeester and marian gaborik and you'd still be on here complaining. the devils have had a very good off-season so far. they haven't done anything stupid, which is half the battle.

fact still remains ..we are not a better team then last year and several teams around us got better.... cmon im really trying to let it go til next year.

If only Lou would have followed your plan....oh wait....you've never actually OFFERED one, you just criticize EVERY move!

I'm all for disagreement with the popular opinion (if it is that), I'm just sick of hearing this rant without hearing what should have been done.

blah, blah, Kool aid, the rest of us are all blind, etc....

What difference would it make what plan I came up with ... read my opinion and stop putting your head in the sand while swallowing the crap they feed you sheep.

Only thing now is I hope Parise doesn't feel resentful about being much better than travis yet being paid .5 mil less on average.

For each of the next two years Parise will make more than Zajac. 3 v 2.75 this year, 5 v 3.5 year after. Also, in the 3rd year while Parise will have a 5M qualifer, arbitration rights - and most importantly the leverage to get a megadeal, v 4.5 for Zajac.

Basically what I am saying is that for the next 3 years there is no chance that Zajac will make more than Parise, and come year 3 odds are the Devils will give Parise the biggest contract they have given anyone, I would expect his deal to be bigger than Elias.

It makes no sense for Parise to be 'mad', he has 8 million coming over the next 2 years, and provided he takes care of business he puts him in a position for a megadeal.

You never offer an "opinion" or any evidence, or anything. Just a steady diet of doom and gloom.

As I've said many times, I'm legitimately curious as to what you feel would have been a better plan....and not just so it can be bashed.....I really want to know.

But instead, you consistently offer that "holier than thou", "we are so ignorant and mindless" crap you feed us.

I've never even said that I agree w/what Lou has done, I just have not yet seen what your expectations are from him.

Its easy to bash without putting forth alternatives.... my only beef with you is NOT that you support an unpopular opinion on the management of this team, but that you refuse to point out what Lou should do that you would approve of. Hence making it super easy to just say "everything he does is the demise of this franchise" for every move made. I'm beginning to suspect you might not have any alternatives.

I would (and I imagine many others here too) at least respect an "alternate approach" even if I disagreed with it, in place of just pointless bashing that is happening now.

I didnt get the team into this current situation, several bad choices by management thru the years did that. Im not gonna get into fruitless speculation to feed your need... I , like you, am a fan of the team, and I disagree in the direction the team has been going in, end of story.. What does it matter what my alternative choices are other than to feed my ego. Bottom line LA -- and dont cloud the subject by attacking my opinion - we are not a better team then last year and several teams in our conference got better....

Now please let me get back to Le Tour

Yep, pretty much.

Our awful "current situation" consists of 100-point seasons (or thereabouts) and yearly playoff appearances. No, the playoffs haven't been kind to the Devils as of late, and only winning two rounds over 5 years isn't ideal, but it's better than a lot of other teams. It could be, and will (eventually, inevitably) be a lot worse.

I could go into how Lou should've just been able to magically to replace Nieds, Stevens, Rafalski and Daneyko, and how losing those guys has helped to contribute to this "current situation" we all find ourselves suffering through (I guess Lou should have had a plan in place to replace two Hall-Of-Famers, a very good player, and a terrific lunchpail guy), but why bother? Bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch...

And what exactly is the purpose of a message board if not to debate (among other things)? So he's attacking your opinion, big whoop. You don't do something similar - worse even - when you post that anyone who doesn't think the sky is completely doom and gloom is automatically and blindly shoving down the Kool-Aid? I don't disagree Lou has a lot to answer for post-lockout but if he's really been as terrible a GM as you and a few others like metalidevils whine that he has been then the Devils wouldn't have been anywhere near a division title last year with Marty on the shelf.

He has a valid point when he asks what you would do...because if you don't have any specific alternative to offer then all your posts come off as is mindless bashing. In other words, basically anything Lou does with you is automatically wrong just because he's made a few mistakes in recent years so everything by rote has to be wrong, whether he signs someone or not.

You killed signing Rolston last offseason the way you've killed doing nothing this offseason, it's not about whether we got better in relation to other teams. We 'got better' last offseason while our rivals got worse and all you had were Panera jokes. Besides, I heard a lot of the same criticisms (from Devil fans in general) in '02 when we lost Holik and made the Sykora trade, we didn't get better and everyone else did so rating the team in the offseason doesn't always wash.

I've been holding my tongue on this for too long because of off-board reasons, but honestly dude can't you see just how ridiculously over the top negative you've gotten (and without merit)? When smart posters like CR and Tri are calling you out, along with just about everyone else here? Yeah things aren't all peachy but it's hardly the joke our other franchise has become, not by a longshot. Just replace Lou with Marty and your username with LucifersDog and that's basically an accurate picture of your posting habits.

What happened to letting it go till the holidays or whatever you said? That isn't going to happen, because you can't wait to post your next Lou bash.

I was going to write this rather lengthy verbose response to all you points but whats the use, you and the deacons of the board think one way and I another and I respect you for it. I still hold steadfast to my opinion on why were here and with all due respect Has I dont give fvck about division titles while I watch the boys shake hands with the rags or canes or whoever and catch the rest of the rounds vicariously. As far as alternatives - everyone posts them why do you need repetition, take the coach, lou had a chance to go in at least 5 different new directions he chose Jacques ... whatever

I told Tri that I didnt want to get into this now - enjoy your summer boys

If you didn't want to get into it - you shouldn't "pop in to post the doom and gloom" without expecting to back up your statement. You'll probably win more votes than you expect.

I just want to know what drives the passion with which you obviously feel about the directions taken in the last few years....

BTW, for the record I agree w/you about Lemaire. So no, its not a case of "you think one way and the rest of the board another". Is it so bad to want to know what that "another" actually is?
