njdevsftw
Listening to TSN radio now, they are saying LeCavalier to Philly is a done deal.. 5 years, 23 million. Seems like a really good deal to me, especially if people are serious about paying the same kinda money to Clarkson.. Devils731
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 2m 5 years, $4.5 per for Vinny in Philly confirmed.
BlueSkirt
Yes, Vinny is better. The term of this deal could be a problem.... Of course I still respect him and wish he went out west instead of being in our yet unn-amed division
Derlique
Another soft minute and slow player to Philly

Daniel
Are they over the cap if you account for Pronger not being on the cap (I know that's not exactly how it works but hopefully you know what I mean)
GoArmySports
How the heck do they expect to keep their RFA's after this upcoming season? Giroux will easily get a raise!
Triumph
Are they over the cap if you account for Pronger not being on the cap (I know that's not exactly how it works but hopefully you know what I mean) Yes, but only by a little. They lose a lot of salary next year but they have to pay Giroux, Schenn, and Couturier.
njd3b1ink
Holmgren is clueless. Good player but it makes no sense to get rid of briere gagne bryz and now another player for Streit and Vinnie. Depth apparently doesn't mean anything to the flyers

Triumph
Pronger also has to retire eventually He won't until that contract's over (4 more years).
2ELIAS6
5 years for him... Whoof
maxpower
He won't until that contract's over (4 more years). But that's bullsh!t. It's cap circumvention. There should be a realistic expectation of what the point of no return is for him.

Pronger counts during the offseason but your opening roster has to come in under the cap, I believe, then you can put him on LTIR.

Devils731
But that's bullsh!t. It's cap circumvention. There should be a realistic expectation of what the point of no return is for him. That may not be a fight the league wants. It's hard to prove he can never play again, since concussions can act strangely. So you get one doctor arguing Pronger can never play again and another doctor that says Pronger may be able to play again and then you probably couldn't force a retirement. Team, NHLPA, and Player all say they want the contract to continue in hopes he can play again, tough for an arbiter to overturn on a he said/she said type argument by the league. Triumph
All NHL contracts have always been guaranteed for players injured during play - what you'd be doing is forcing Pronger to give that up. It's not cap circumvention.

He's 39 at the start of next season. This is the kind of stuff they used in the Kovalchuk arbitration. Let's be honest if it wasn't Comcast, this would be handled differently. He'd be gone of natural causes within a season or two even if he played all the way through. All NHL contracts have always been guaranteed for players injured during play - what you'd be doing is forcing Pronger to give that up. It's not cap circumvention. But a 35+ deal is supposed to stay on the books even if the player is retired. At minimum they should be forced to buy him out

NJDevs4978
Well there is the matter of Clarkson's age compared to Vinny's. but yeah if Clarkson gets a $40 million contract I give up on this league.
maxpower
Yeah, I know, you can't do that because an injured player can't be bought out.
BlueSkirt
It is BS, but as covered above its very hard to challenge. So you have to see how frequently this kind of things happens with the 35+ players before making a rule against it. In this case his misfortune ends up helping the Flyers out of what likely would have been a bad deal, but it was unintentional
