Let's start a pool of where Brodeur will end up

vokoun, bryz, thomas are still out there and reimer asked for a trade so teams have younger and better options than Marty i'd think and there's only a few spots left.

if marty signs i assume its gonna go kind of like turco in his last season

1-year deal here for $1 million and retire a Devil.

God I hope not.

I'd love to see him retire now, always having been a Devil.

I can accept him playing another season for someone else, even if I think he shouldn't.

But please, please, pullleeeeeeezze don't come back for another season with the Devils.

Griess is picked up for 1 Mill by Pitt

Nabakov 1.5 Mill from Twampa

Peters 1.9 Mil from Washington

idk how high of an offer Lou would go but I bet the highest offer 30 has is or would be from NJ (to be a happy backup 20 game tops)

anyone else think the same non-trade interest for 30 at the trade deadline is just as quiet in free agency?

GMs have really done their homework on Marty. They see a guy who's not only put up a .901 save% the past two seasons, but has really been more of an .880ish guy save for a hot streak or two, is old, and whose GAA benefitted heavily from the team in front of him keeping shots down. They see that Cory put up very good numbers behind the same team. They know that it's just about impossible to hide a goalie who's only going to decline further. And they know there's better goalies who cost less who will embrace their roles quietly and with no negative fanfare.

GMs, to their credit, have been able to see past the name, the achievements, and the 688 wins and see Marty for what he is: no longer good, old, and potentially a headache. Sucks for Marty, but hopefully he's starting to wake up and smell reality.

..we agree that his Sv% should've been more like a .897 this season.. however, even WITH the benefit of the 4 game hot streak, he finished 47th in Sv% last year, among goalies who played at least 25 games or more! He's got 32 wins over the past 2 years, playing nearly 70 games. --for Christ sake, can't he see it's over?! :noclue:

at this point i just want him to retire already.. before he starts embaressing his own name if it hasnt started already.. its time to go on

..oh believe me, he's already embarrassed himself in the court of public opinion. He's been embarrassing himself since he opened his mouth and began crying to the media in February. Reading njdevs & HF is down right comical when it comes to how the fans feel about Marty. Quite literally NO ONE wants him back here anymore. Congratulations Marty! --you've alienated your own fans.

I'd bet Bryz gets a job before Marty considering he played very well at the end of the season for Minnesota.  Of the 5 or 6 teams to show interest, not many of them are left in the "Marty Brodeur Sweepstakes" and I'm sure MB30 is starting to live in the reality that we have been in the last few years.  Please don't force Lou's hand, Marty

he can still save himself if he retires. thats wat im holding out hope for here

Doubtful. He's too immature to swallow his pride, and his ego is such where he'll remain defiant in the face of defeat.

..the fact that the Devils have already moved on (signing Clemmer) without first waiting to see if\when Brodeur signs with another team.. coupled with the newfound perception by the fans\media that: "Brodeur can't find a job" & "Nobody wants him" --will only strengthen his resolve to continue to play imo. --and if he wants to be spiteful till the bitter end, then he can go right ahead.

..put it this way: Yes.. retirement is still a possibility for Brodeur. But with his bloated self-esteem.. I'll believe it, when I see it.

To be fair we've always seen his inflated ego and hardheadness but praised it when he was able to shake off a bad goal.

I'm starting to feel bad for him. He's "the greatest goalie of all time", and he's out there looking for work and nobody seems interested so far. Of course, he could have retired without that happening, but I still feel bad for him.

I am sure he will cry himself to sleep on his pillow stuffed with hundred dollar bills.

i mean... i only slightly feel bad cause every single athlete has to go through it and a lot already went through it. Not cause he was the best of all time that it's necessarily harder. All those guys playing in the NHL has been doing it everyday for years. Thats their life. So that they were an Hall of Fame player or a 4th line plug... thats all you know and it sucks to have to let go.

The problem here is Marty's ego who can't see that he's done. That's whats really sad. and its painful to watch honestly.

Yeah, it really is sad to see it end like this. After such an awesome career, to be basically begging for work is no way to end up. But like a lot of us have been saying, he's been declining and should have just called 2013-14 his last year. That last game would have been special if we all knew it was the end for sure.

I think if Brodeur wanted a job at any cost he'd have it.  His problem is that he thinks he should have all sorts of privileges, and that's what's sad.

exactly, Im sure there are teams willing to bring him in on name and veteran/winning reputation alone, but not for $3 million a year and not for any playing time guarantees.

If I had to bet on it, he'll find a place to play somewhere. Perhaps in Minnesota if Harding isn't 100%.

And probably more salary too.  For a rare time I agree vis-a-vis Marty.

Tim Thomas is probably better than Marty at this point in their careers, he's not asking for anything special and he's still out of a job too.  Marty should have taken advantage of his name recognition if he truly wanted to play.  If he only wants to play in the 'right' situation it's likely not coming.

The other side of the coin is that it's Brodeur last chance - this is almost certainly his last season - and to screw it up by going somewhere where he thinks he'd be unhappy would be very silly indeed.  But if this is what he wants, he's got to have no salary demands at all.

I forget where I read it, but he apparently priced himself out of Pittsburgh. The Pens were supposedly interested, but Marty wanted starter money. They signed Griess instead for $1 mil. Marty wants to have his cake and it eat it too, and its pretty sad he's the only one who doesn't know that he's acting ridiculous. Edited by MadDog2020
