12 peoples die and could be worse in next hours.

2 cops and 10 people working for the paper ... i really knew one of them.. i spend some time with him

one of the victim is an artist i grow up reading his comics etc etc...

The way we will stand up after this slaughtery will define us. Hopefully, not a violent action will be the answer to this nightmare !

Je suis Charlie !

Really sad.  Sorry for your loss.

All religions are poison to some of their followers.  One in particular seems to be especially poisonous at this point in history.  I wish everyone would stop believing in fairytales.

Your comment is a fairytale, and you know it!

These Islamist killers may very well have handed power over to Marine Le Pen, the National Front leader. If something good could come from this butchery, it would be that, in my opinion. It's time for the indigenous peoples of Europe to fight for their land, to fight like hell.

You have a similar mindset as the terrorists

Exactly! And the reason for that is because I don't believe that peace, love and acceptance will solve the problem.

The West has brought this on itself by meddling in Arab countries' affairs (led by the U.S., of course) and by ultra-liberal immigration policies that not only let enemies into their countries but threaten demographic disaster to boot. So much damage has been done, and it won't be undone peacefully if it is to ever be undone at all. There will be blood.

Happy New Year, everyone!

There is a different way of seeing that... Let's say that i respect your opinion and how you (would) react... I just don't think, from my point of view, it's the solution.

Yes there is an enemy.. they are the terrorist. The muslim aren't the enemy. fundamentalists are the enemy ! Extremist from every religion are the enemy.

What the enemy is trying to do is to create a civil war in France. In Europe.

You "blame" us for having a ultra-liberal immigration policies... I disagree (of course) but all start from our history. This is how we work since France is France...

I don't wanna any tolerance for integrist.. they will be judged and spend the rest of their miserable life in jail... or, other possibility, in the next few days, they will be shot in the street during their last Hurray... I wanna see them be judged ... with no special law. The right one.. the same as usual. They will rot in jail for a long long time. They deserve it !

But what happen to these two a$$holes will not change anything. I will still be devasted by our lost... that will not change the enemy determination... and 12 people (and some real genius amongs them) will still be dead and will never make me laugh anymore

More important... and what happen last night in every city of France (and in the world) prove that...

We aren't afraid !

Their goal was to kill Charlie... too bad, we are all Charlie now !

Problem is while they are extremists attacking, it's becoming more and more common. The overwhelming majority of non extremists need to come out and advocate against that behavior. It's not happening.

The difference between extremists and the mindset Jerry showed is simple. The extremists mindset is to strike fear, be aggressive and make the West pay. It's about time we start playing defense. These fanatics will not stop until we're all dead or converts.

I understand your position, Moustic.I certainly know that not every Muslim is a killer. And I understand the history of immigration in France. The indigenous people have had a low birth rate for a long time, and North African immigrants were allowed in due to labor shortages. It may have helped business, but it has fueled resentment. There was a price to pay for that cheap labor. Look at Marseilles. A French city that should be a gem on the Mediterranean is a cesspool with a 30-40% Muslim population. That's not France.

It's France now... And there is nothing we can do to go back (not that i would want... but that's a different opinion.. i get your point, and respect it)

It's a fact that if we wanna survive as a country without a destroying crisis that would be letal for our future... We have to find a solution to live together ... it wasn't that easy in the past.. there is always some tension (we are a really old country.. problem with population isn't new .. way before muslim.. ) But we always find a way (the classical " Impossible isn't french" you know... )

What we should hunt down WITH the help of real muslim of course... is these piece of sh!t, fvckhead and garbage that pretend being humans.. Integrist, fundamentalists )

Right now the world has a Islamic extremist problem, no question. But it wasn't so long ago that the middle east had a Jewish extremist problem. And not so long before that the world has a Christian extremist problem.

It's so intellectually lazy to blame Islam, rather then confronting the actual issues that cause extremism it's easier to blame pieces of paper, paper that only slightly differs from the paper *you* believe in.

The problem is poverty and education. When you are piss poor, and you shun technology, and you bury your heads in the sand for centuries, a few people are going to find the crazy extremist parts of a religious text not so crazy anymore. I have read all three of the major religious texts, and all three have extremists passages that anyone can contort and twist to fit their agenda of the day. Terrorists are as much manipulative opportunists as they are religious zealots.

There is no easy fix to this problem, personally I think the only thing that will help is time. Their culture needs to evolve itself out of harmful destructive ways and learn to co-exist with other faiths. Or you can pretend it's a simple problem and just be a bully from the comfort of your office chair.

And whle I know you are just taking a sarcastic jab at Islam; I have no problem with you calling Mohammad a pedophile. But know your own texts as well: Rebecca was 3 years old when 37 year old Issac took her as a wife, and Mary was 13 when 90 year old Joseph married her. Yet another thing all 3 religions share.

Frightening.

Even if Islamist killers didn't exist, this combining of peoples is a terrible idea. It looks great on paper to those who think of multiculturalism as an ideal (or even a necessary evil), but it's not all kebabs and cous cous. In the embrace of all cultures, one tends to lose touch with ones own. Meanwhile, the invaders have no intention of embracing your culture. They want to usurp it.

The white peoples of Europe are figuring this out in greater numbers. How else to describe the rise of far right, anti-immigration parties in France, Sweden, England, the Netherlands, Hungary, Greece, Italy, Germany, etc.? Personally, I want these groups to rise to power, but can you imagine what would happen with our relations with these countries if that happened? NATO and the European Union would be in jeopardy. There are some very interesting, tumultuous times ahead.

You're scary Jerry. People with your mindset ruled my country 75 years ago, it was a disaster.

One day the multiculturalists will have to realize that the differences in culture are much more profound than cuisine, language and gods that are or are not worshipped.  The world would have been saved a lot of bloodshed had the Neocons realized this as well.

It's been said that political correctness is the war on noticing things.  And what's staring everyone directly in the face is that about ten percent of France either comes from or is a generation or two removed from countries where it's quite normal to punish people that publicly insult Islam or Mohammed (in fact, those countries are always trying to pass UN resolutions to make such prohibitions universal) and where they otherwise quite plainly reject the fundamental values Western countries take for granted.  And that percentage of the population is growing in France.  It's amazing that the fog of political correctness is so thick that mainstream opinion is that this in no way can change France for the worse.

And Eaglejelly, funny you should reference the history of your country.  Jews are leaving France in ever increasing numbers because they are coming increasingly under physical threat by thugs.  And I'll give you a hint, those thugs are not neo-Nazi skinheads or members of the National Front.  And, I'll add, the ancestors of those people were actually quite comfortable with Nazism.  This might illustrate the point:

I am a Native American! :)

My ancestors decimated the Indians. You'll get no argument from me. My ancestors built a pretty good country, though, didn't they? For me, that's bigger than any white guilt that I might feel about the Indians.

And you have a GREAT country with a great people and culture! How about those 18,000 marchers in Dresden the other day? Are they all scary? They're worried. I consider it a healthy, instinctual fear. I call it instinctual because the Hitler-yelling mainstream media and Europe's political establishment certainly aren't feeding Germans their nationalist ideas. I love that many Germans are rising above the yoke of shame that has been foisted on them. Good for them!

This attitude only perpetuates violence. It rewards the most extremist who try to claw their way to the top of the totem pole. It's easy to sit from here now and say "look at great this country is!" but it certainly wasn't like that for blacks, women, and Asian's of this country for centuries.

And extremist Muslims can use your exact logic to justify the horrible things they are doing now if they were to succeed. A few centuries from now they would say "Sure a long time ago we committed decades worth of terrorism on innocent civilians of other faiths not to mention the killing of hundreds of thousands of our own.. but hey look at this new society we built now".

You can turn this into a contest of what culture deserves the most collective guilt for whatever past sins.  Personally, I find it silly and tedious, and it's why whenever some apologist for Islamic fanaticism brings up the Crusades or American Indians, I realize they have nothing useful to add.

The way it stands now is that France and many EU countries have this policy of inviting a lot of people from countries that adhere to a religion, as it is practiced in the mainstream right now, that rejects Western values like freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of thought, and without asking too many questions or being too discriminating about who they let in.  It's suicidely naive to think that they'll leave that cultural baggage at the door, and that it'll somehow be some better kind of France if it ever gets to a point where 30 to 40 percent of the country is Muslim, especially when polite society deems the most important thing in the world is to not offend their sensibilities.

Deflecting these very real and valid concerns with white/male/cisgendered/Christian guilt not only avoids addressing a real issue, but may very well throw gasoline on the fire.
