nessus
I feel like Quenneville has a good shot at being a solid NHL player. It's a "safe" pick, if there is such a thing (meaning not so much of a boom-or-bust type). I was surprised/disappointed that they passed on Barbashev, seeing as he seems like a high-end talent guy who has the work ethic and the defensive game necessary to fit the Devils' system. I have a feeling the Devils were all set to pick Kempe until LA got up there, too. It's a bit disappointing that the Devils didn't take a chance on someone who may have a higher ceiling, but I guess that's what they'll use with their 41st pick (hopefully). We still have Barbashev, Kamenev, Karlsson, Point and Lemieux on the board. Here's to hoping that at least one of those guys is still available at 41...and that the Devils are not afraid of Russians. I bet Barbashev is gone by 33, though. I think we'll like Quenneville. It just seems disappointing since he was not a guy we were all expecting. CarpathianForest
Sure. I'm sure you of all people wouldn't have complained no matter who the pick was. Righty-o. Lemeiux's 'feistiness' right? Quenneville had 5 fighting majors last year just so you know. Sounds plenty 'fiesty' to me. Bottom line is certain people live to complain. It is what it is... This is what line he'll be on in the future. Besides Lemieux, Point and Barbashev were still around, but alas Lou sticks with his choices of "character." That's why we're stuck with Sal and Gionta. Character doesn't necessarily mean talent.

Ok, well talk to me in 5 years on that one. I love how you say he's going to be a 4th liner, even though I'm willing to bet you probably haven't watched too many Brandon Wheat Kings games. Adam Henrique was a 3rd round pick. No one knows. This is why its not even worth getting too high or too low about a draft pick. Its a crapshoot and always will be. nessus
Are you really arguing against Quenneville's talent by saying we should have drafted Lemieux? Lemieux would be much more of a "character" pick than Quenneville. Edited June 28, 2014 by nessus

Marshall
Quenneville seems like a relatively safe pick? I was hoping for a player with more risk but also more upside offensively (no I have no idea who that would be). Edit: this is pretty baffling. “Certainly our scouts have seen him a lot. They saw him in the Memorial Cup,” general manager Lou Lamoriello said. Quenneville never played in the Memorial Cup. thefiestygoat
Shame that Schmaltz, Bleackley, Scherbak, Goldobin, and Ho-Sang were all off the board but I'm satisfied with the Quenneville selection. Hoping they can still get one of Point/Barbashev/Lemieux at 41. I'm too tired to look up who else may be there for that pick. Barbashev was ranked: Central Scouting 18th (NA Skaters), ISS 19th, McKenzie 23rd, Button 14th, Hockey Prospect 13th, Future Considerations 16th, Draft Buzz 13th. He's averaging 1.12 Pts/GP in 116 games for his QMJHL career. Had an impressive 76.6% EV Point Share this past season. Wonder how far he slips?I'd love for Point to slip to 41. That would be a no-brainer for me to take him if he was available there. Would've been taken already if not for his height. Wouldn't mind Lemieux at 41 either but would take Point or Barbashev before him.

That is pretty weird. That's going to get filed under "Check topic in 2 years." when he actually starts to lose it. Doesn't Quenneville have really good numbers for the playoff games he has been to. He'll have another year in juniors most likely. Models his game after Anze Kopitar? Doesn't mean a whole lot, but that's a great player to want to emulate. He had 13 points in 9 playoff games. He sounds like a Briere-playoff type. Good hands, hard shot, good motor, could be a powerplay specialist if he grows more. I like the pick, would have liked Lemieux more I think. Point, maybe....I'm praying for Lemieux, maybe Lou sees him like Max Domi and just isn't interested. I'd love Anton Karlsson, Point, or Lemieux, I'm praying that that one of those 3 are there after 11 picks. elias2600
Barbashev seems like an exciting player, but every year I pin my hopes on a specific pick, and it never happens (for good or bad). The draft is a roller coaster of hope and disappointment. I think 2003 is the only year I was super psyched afterwards with the Parise pick. Hopes were pinned on these guys previously: 2013: Lindholm (picked a few spots ahead of our traded pick) 2012: Nicolas Kerdiles (Matteau) 2011: Gabriel Landeskog (picked 2 spots before Larsson) 2010: Justin Faulk (picked 1 spot ahead of Merrill) 2009: Kyle Palmieri, John Moore, or Jordan Schroeder (Josefson). Schroeder is kind of a bust at this point. 2008: John Carlson (we picked Tedenby. Still disappointed about not grabbing Carlson)

Devs3cups
BPA for them I guess. He looks like a pretty good defender. I feel like he's a Santini 2.0. Our defence is boosted, it's always nice to have great "D" prospects. Edited June 28, 2014 by Devs3cups
