Resign schneider long term sign paul stastny long term ( give the man his money) dont put a single dollars on vanek and sign miroslav satan to a cheap contract because it his destiny lol ( joke aside je impress me in the woŕld championship)Oh get rid of salvador or buy out volchenkov

I've always wanted to see Satan in a Devs sweater for this reason as well. How could we not ever have him on our team? It is a match made in.... Err.... You know where.

Not sure whether Setaguchi is worth pursuing.  He was a healthy scratch in Winnapeg for 4 out of the last 5 games.  I heard yesterday no chance he'll resign with them (Jets), and it's mutual.  He is a righty which we could use.  But how much of a reclamation project would he be?

Ryan Miller has become available. Do you see him as an option if Schneider intends to leave? I guess the timing is off because Cory doesn't need to make his decision yet.

I don't think so, given that the timing isn't quite right (like you mentioned).  Unless Cory makes it clear to Lou he won't be re-signing ever, I guess.

Plus I'd rather Lou gives a fat goalie contract to Cory than Miller, obviously.

Bad news I just saw from NHL app, Satan officially retires.

So I guess that won't happen....

Ahhh... but we COULD get Satan behind the bench.  the dream is ALWAYS alive!  "The NJ Devils GM, Satan, says he expects great things from the team this year ..."

no.  people on HF are dumb.

These posts make me SO HAPPY!

Does this mean there won't be any more evil in the world? Or are they taking applicants to replace Satan?

Oh, I almost forgot to ask: where can I apply?

I was thinking about this at work could the Devils trade for Patrick Sharp. He has 3 yrs left on his contract, he is 32 but I think he could help with the team

The Hawks are much more likely to try and trade Hossa.  He's 35 and quickly approaching when you might expect him to retire and deal with cap recapture.  According to Capgeek, he also does not have an NTC while Sharp does.

Hossa is still a ridiculously good player.  I don't think he's close to retirement and he's still an incredible value.  I think he might come to regret his contract more than any other guy who got one - I don't really know what they're going to do when he's making $1M.    Unless he gets injured, I think he'll still be really good in 2017-2018 when his contract starts to hit the $1M years.

On another note altogether. I wonder if Torts was interviewed for Fla. coaching job? Nice to be reunited w/ Roberto eh?  I'm sure there was a phone call to Tallon, don't even think about it!

maybe we can rename this thread to just be the NHL 14 offseason thread? the Devils offseason thread is basically the sameone as this one and i don't know where else to put the below articles:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=722978&navid=nhl:topheads

SJ looking to rebuild.  very interesting here, you gotta wonder if Thornton and Marleau will be on their way out.  Can't believe they're making 6.75 and 6.5, respectively.  Im sure SJ would love to take care of that

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=723043&navid=nhl:topheads

I hope Tootoo gets picked up real quick.  Ever since that video came out where he gives that kid his hockey stick, ive had a soft spot for the guy

EDIT: and just to be clear i am not saying I'd want the Devils to pick up Thornton or Marleau, there's no way i'd want them for that price

Unless the goal is tor try and have an anomaly of a  bad season next year with the hopes of landing McDavid or Eichel, the idea of the Sharks rebuilding is absolute lunacy.  They had 111 points last year, and that's with having a future superstar in Hertl that was already having a good season as a 20 year old before he got hurt.  They lost in seven games and should have beaten the Kings.

The mob is fickle brother.

thinking about colorado. they're taking o'reilly to arbitration because they don't want to pay him. they are trying to resign statsny. and they're shopping parenteau who they appear to see as a poison pill contract.

how about trading larsson, ryder and the 2015 1st for parenteau and o'reilly. while ryder isn't great shakes, he's got one year left @ $3.5 to parenteau's $4MM and parenteau is not a bad player. Colorado is just in a position where they've got to pay a lot of their stars money.

so make that trade, buy out Sal, resign Fayne and Gionta:

I just hate the idea of trading next year's pick unless the return is something you can't turn down.

This is a team that is an injury or two away, especially in goal, from being horrendous. I would hate to lose the ultimate insurance against that.

I'd put Matteau or even Boucher in that deal before next years first.

next year's 1st is the prize - i don't want to give it up either but ryan o'reilly is pretty good. of course i would give any other prospect they want before the 1st but i don't think that gets it done. hell, i don't think my proposed deal necessarily gets it done. besides, my hope of sal getting the buyout over anton is probably a pipe dream anyway

I'm not saying that I would want to trade for him, but I was a little bummed to hear we might be on Spezza's no trade list.  It sounds more like it's a guess from a different agent.  Still, I wonder what the perception of this team is to people who have no affiliation with us.

The identity of the two other American-based teams is unknown, but a player agent unaffiliated with Spezza’s camp speculated that the Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils were the most likely choices.
