Amberite
kay, now i want to smack you upside the head. 7.5 mill a year for a guy who gets hurt if he breathes incorrectly.if anything, the rags skated in a circle today. they didn't get better. The rags obviously overpaid for Gaborik. HOWEVER, if Gaborik remains healthy (which is possible after his surgery), then although that 7.5 is an overpayment, it's still a MUCH better use of the money than to spend it on Gomez. If Gaborik is healthy, make no doubt about it - the Rangers are a better team than last year. Anyways, even IF the rags didn't get better, at least they maintained "status quo" as Lou likes to say. We lost some pretty worthless players in Rupp, etc. But Gionta is a good player. While he might not be worth $5 million, he's a lot better than a Rod Pelley and he's a lot more NHL ready than any prospects we bring up next year. So we went backwards this offseason. We lost Gionta and have nothing to replace him but unproven prospects.

maxpower
so he's had vomit on himself twice today? once after the brashear signing and now thisbtw maxpower is right but you guys are ignoring him. lol, let everyone hate on Rod Pelley, because god forbid, he's going to be on the 4th line and the 2nd PK. we're doomed. when they're not killing penalties, him and Pando will have plenty of time to shoot the sh!t with each other, which is the way it should be. Amberite
won't happen. Give me a break. Gaborik had ONE injury-intensive season and that was this past season. Every other season he has either played basically entire season (77+ games) or missed 15 games, which is not horrendous. Everyone is making him out to be a walking talking pane of glass but this is WAY over-exaggerated. Gaborik had surgery to repair the problem he had this season, so I don't see that happening again. As much as I hate to say it, I'd be willing to bet the rags will get 65+ games out of him this season. The Devils will NOT be able to recover from the Zubrus and Rolston signings. That's what, like 10 million in dead weight over the next few years. DevilNurn
+ he signed as a quid pro quo that he would be on the team this year (so it's not something you didn't know was coming)+ he's better than Rupp or Bobby, especially what Bobby gave us last year + he kills penalties, which neither of them did, nor would you even attempt to have them do. + all reports from Lowell was that he was a better player than the last time he was there it's a dumb quote because it's going to piss people off, but it's being taken way out of context I think Pelley has a spot on this team within the next few years, and him starting next year isn't so bad. Assuming he's as good/bad as Madden would've been, it's not much of a change. But that still leaves us with a hole at 1st/2nd line center. Which will be filled by a depth player almost definitely. I think that's what's most disappointing about today. Much as I don't want to overpay anyone, I'd have taken a short, frontloaded contract to fill one of our holes today seeing as we have a little bit of cash to spend. But, long as Zajac stays on this team I'll hold back the tears.
DevilinLA
Really, after this quote and the day today, we're focusing on the RAGS and Gaborik? Seem like we got our own problems with a 3yr. Marty-clock and a team of unproven AHL'rs Wouldn't be quite so bitter tasting if Lou even made it sound like he had some kind of vision or plan in place..... I would guess Rolston because Elias is vomitious at faceoffs. I don't think Pelley is going to be a Madden.... well, maybe a Madden of this year. Basically, you're just asking him to center the fourth line and hold the fort. kill some penalties (which we need because we lost PK depth today. you have Zajac/Langs and then, well, you really don't want your second line on the PK too.), and hold the fort there too. it's just changing the kind of cheap player on your fourth line. from a banger to more of a PK specialist. metallidevils
Madden and Gionta weren't that great anymore but whoever is going to replace them, if it is someone in the organization, is going to be far, far worse. we should be able to replace gionta for less than 5 million
