Zack has never been an efficient pitcher though.  On that front, he still needs to improve.

TC leaves Zack in hoping he'll get through five and be in position to win, and it backfires.  I won't kill him...two errors are hard to overcome, especially when Zack is clearly laboring even more than usual.  He just couldn't get that last out.

DILSON HERRERA BITCHES!  lol

Seriously though, nice to see a kid get some hits right off the bat, and not go 0-for-12 or something like that.

3rd error for him already though.  Wonder if it's just nerves.  I don't recall ever hearing about him having any defensive issues.

Wow, the Mets finally make a defensive play!

I know this isn't his fault specifically, but for the love of God fire Terry already.  He's a loser.

And Wright strikes out to end the game.  Along with Grander-Bay.  Of course they do.

Nice to see Herrera homer -- yeah his defense has looked shaky but that's never been much of a concern so probably just nerves. Sorry that I haven't been active at all here lately -- just started a new job a few weeks and my downtime has dwindled incredibly, plus the 2014 Mets being what they are and football season starting has shifted my sports gears, so it's difficult to muster up any energy to write about them at this point. :P

I'm still looking forward to this offseason and 2015 but the Granderson investment already (predictably?) looks bad, and my goodness, I really hope for the sake of us fans that Wright's shoulder is killing him.

The TdA = outfielder thing would be awful. I understand player health comes first but that's a disaster waiting to happen, worse than Duda's ventures out there. TdA's value will come from him being a catcher who should hit decently for A CATCHER; shift him to the outfield, where the offensive bar is incredibly higher, and a CATCHER trying to catch flyballs, and it would 100% be a mess.

Good to see you back nmig.  Congrats on the job...hope it's something you enjoy.

Re:  d'Arnaud in the outfield...if the Mets are toying with the idea at all, then I stick with my initial view...send him to winter ball, get him as much time as possible out there.  You could be 100% right, it could very well be a disaster, which is why I don't want the Mets toying around with this idea for any longer than they have to.  Unfortunately, I think payroll constraints are the impetus for this idea more than anything else.  It also doesn't help that d'Arnaud's defense has not been good so far, and that the Mets have another young catcher in their system (who isn't supposed to be terribly good defensively himself).

I'm ready to move on from Wright, but I was ready to do that before he was re-signed.  It's kind of a moot point now, because with the year he's had, the Mets are going to get an iffy high-priced contract back.

Don't know if you've been reading the thread as of late nmig, but I think the problem in 2015 is that the Mets have a lot of money tied up in Wright, Colon, and Grander-Bay,,,potentially half their payroll, really.  Murph and Duda are going to get raises.  They need to find a SS, but I'm guessing they might just give Reynolds a shot.  If they believe in Herrera if he has a good September (for what good Septembers are worth), maybe they trade Murph so they don't have to pay him.  But more and more, I think the holes are going to be filled from within, even if it means a square peg like d'Arnaud being forced into a round hole.

I swear the Wilpons come off as such horribly clueless morons...and just horrible period:

With home attendance sagging, the Mets dismissed Leigh Castergine, senior vice president of ticket sales and services.

Yep, that's the problem, it's all Leigh Castergine's fault that Met fans aren't coming out to watch the dreck being served up to them for the sixth straight season.

I'm sorry, but there's no sugar-coating it anymore...Jeffy and Freddy Wilpon are real pieces of sh!t.  Sometimes I really don't know why I still root for this franchise.  fvcking amateurs to the very end.

I guess David Wright needs to find new ways to kill his team now that he's actually starting to drive in runs again.  O Captain my Captain.

And heaven forbid Niese ever toughens up when things aren't going his way.

What a joke. I mean seriously the Mets are handing this guy a 71 Pinto and firing him for not turning it into the next big thing. Shame on them. Though it seems like this story slipped under the media's eye and the Mets may "get away with it"

And I was just thinking the other day, I hear plenty of commercials on 710, Q104.3, as well as SNY and other outlets for Mets tickets. The word is out, but there is no way people are going to see this product.

you know who's doing the best job getting folks to the ballpark? the 7 line.

Hey the Mets won. Niese allows 6 and doesn't hit 90 all day...but they manage to hold on somehow. Lagares with a huge day at the plate. Wright driving in runs finally

rough day for Herrera at the dish though. But I do like his quick bat and compact swing.

Familia shook of yesterdays disaster quite well.

Ms. Castergine is a female BTW.  Boomer and Carton reported there may be more to the story...nothing's been confirmed yet, but she may have been making Mets tickets available for less than face value on Stubhub.  In a way, I can understand why...it's probably better to get SOMETHING for potentially unsold-at-face-value tickets (and Met fans are understandably staying far away from Citi right now), and have those fans come to the building and spend money on parking (if they drive in), concessions, etc.  Obviously her job was threatened...she may have felt like she had to take drastic measures to save it.

Funny with Lagares...just when it starts to feel like he might go into an extended funk, he gets it going again.  He's 16-for-his-last-42 (.380 BA).  He has GOT to learn how to get on base more, especially if the Mets are going to try to make him a leadoff hitter now, and like nmig has pointed out, Lagares has a high .347 BABIP, which means he may be due for regression...I think sometimes too much is made out of BABIP myself (over .300:  he's lucky!  under .300:  he hits into bad luck!), but clearly, at this point in his career, Lagares can't be a .250-.260 hitter with a roughly .300 OB%, especially on a team with such little offensive talent.  We know how awesome he is in the field, but if he could find a way to scrap his way to right around a .300 avg and an OB% approaching .340, I'd be tickled with that, even if the OB% is a little low for a leadoff guy.

Re:  Herrera...young kid who's bound to have some rough days.  He only got his opportunity because Murph got hurt...he would've spend the rest of the year in AA otherwise...I doubt he would've been called up, even after the B-Mets' season came to an end.  He's probably not truly ready yet, and his jitters are showing in the field, but it's not like he's looked completely overmatched so far.

Wright is suddenly "hot" (or what passes for it with regards to him):  6-for-13 in his last three with 2 2B hits and 6 RBI.  We all know he's had a sh!tty year that not even sabermetric voodoo can dress up, but let's face it, the Mets aren't dealing him (and his value is in the toilet anyway), so with him, it's just hope.  As in hope he shines in garbage time (because he sure doesn't get it done when you need him to), fattens up on some September arms, and gives us all some reason to think he won't be a disaster next season.

Getting scary with Grander-Bay.  Since July 20 he's 22-for-153 (.144 BA).  Though the depths of the valleys are shocking, I guess the overall season numbers aren't that much worse than we should have expected (though they're awful...Mets didn't pay this kind of money for a .667 OB+SLG.)

Wright 0-for-2 with 2 K tonight.  Guess he couldn't stay hot for long.

Make that 0-for-3 with 3 K.

Welcome to the majors kid.  Great spot to put a kid in there Terry.  Idiot.

Oh well, it wasn't pretty for Jacob tonight (looked more like a Wheeler type of game), but he got through six.  Now has a 2.87 ERA in 19 major-league starts.  Truly a bright spot.

0 for 4 with 4 K now for David.  Glad he's feeling dangerous at the plate again.  Guess pitchers everywhere are quaking in their cleats.

yea you always have to temper your excitement with Wright. And despite the relatively small sample Wright never seems to get a hit off of Tom Koehler

I'm happy we took 2 of 3 from Florida. They're sorta/kinda on the brink of being in the 2nd wild card race, so if we could put any dent in their plans for making a run...that satisfies me. Lord knows they've ruined plenty of our seasons

And how insane was that home run hit by Stanton last night. He hits so many of those screaming line drives that go out in like .5 seconds

Wow. Talk about an eruption. Mets smacked 5 home runs. 14-2 right now in the 9th

A good day Granderson to "get well" offensively as he had 2 hits, one of them a HR and 4 rbi. Wright continues driving in runs, Duda with a HR and 3rbi. Herrera with another HR.

Another bandbox ballpark that can bloat the numbers. Wright has had such a lousy season that I can't get terribly excited about a nice game here and there. He killed this team so many times this season (not implying he was alone...Grander-Bay has had two full months where he did literally NOTHING at the plate). But it's nice to see Duda have a good day after he's slowed up a bit, and d'Arnaud is suddenly hitting in the .240s after hovering in the .220s for a while. And it's always nice to see a guy like Herrera shake off tough days.

Gee, pitched a pretty good game, but Terry pushed his luck running with his pitch count and got burned. Gee is just too unreliable in the 6th or 7th. There was no reason to start the 7th with him at 91 pitches in a 1-1 game in a bandbox.

Gee's been pretty good in his last three...at least he's turned it around for now.

I can't get mad at Terry for being Terry. He is what he is.

Two doubles for d'Arnaud...guy might be close to .260 by the end of the season.

Of course this offense goes right back to not doing much after garbage-time kings like Wright fatten up.

d'Arnaud has definitely been a rare bright spot for this team in the 2nd half. .839 OPS since his recall in late June and overall on the season he's been 5% above the league by wRC+, which ranks 11th among catchers with at least 350 PA. His slash line is actually very in line with what the mainstream projections had him down for; I consider that a good thing considering the ugly start and demotion (plus I mentioned preseason I would be happy with a .250/.310/.400 type of season).

Zack still has his "arrrrrrrrrgh" moments, but there's no denying that he's improved nicely as the season has progressed. Hard to complain too much about what he's done in his last 14 starts or so.
