  1. Is it ok to be worried about the ruling...?

  2. Had a look and couldn't see that anybody had linked this yet, so here goes. Decent piece. Nothing really new there, but encouraging to see that not everyone is bashing Lou and the Devils. John Jasper blog
  3. Sod it...Im loving the keepership. Have mailed ThreeStars too just in case, but I'm now claiming Janne Ojanen and Esa Tikkanen. Bring on the Finns!
  4. Don't worry bud, Kovy's alright when it comes to a scrap. In every sense. vs. McCabe I remember reading McCabe's interview after that...he said he might have given Kovy a bit of slack to begin with as he couldn't quite believe what was going on, but quickly realised he had to 'give it his all'. I'll try and dig that interview out. It was in the (Miami) Herald.
  5. Well said. That's exactly what I told a Flyers fan earlier today when he was having a go at the Devils, saying how he hopes we do get the contract sorted so we can "self destruct after signing the biggest non-performer in the history of the game". He's too young to remember Alex Daigle.
  6. Can I be keeper of Timo Blomqvist please. Former D man and current scout. Bit of a legend in Finland (where I grew up) as he was the captain of the silver-winning 1988 Olympic team. The Finns beat the all-conquering Soviets 2-1 that year.
  7. Well, I can only speak for myself as a newbie here, but my first impressions of this Єklund (2.3% accurate) bloke are...what a dork. Is he being serious? Does anybody read his blog? I certainly won't after what I've just seen. "I have it from a great source..." "...today, perhaps within hours, I expect to have more news..." "Another rumor that just broke..." "I have heard the Maple Leafs are the real team to watch." "I was out last night with a good source and have been putting together info all morning..." All of these are classic signs of just plainly making stuff up. A bit like when proper journalists get lazy and are not 100 per cent sure. They end up using language such as "it is understood that..." or "it is believed that..." Technically they are not lying because they are speaking about themselves. Just like this Єklund (2.3% accurate) fella. Well here's a rumour for Єklund (2.3% accurate): It is understood that the hockey blogger who goes by the name "Єklund" is as useful as Anne Frank's drumkit.
  8. Well said IceDog. I do hope that we will be able to secure maximum benefit from this both on the ice and in the office. True. And you can rest assured that the marketing has already begun. Whether it has the impact we hope it will is another matter. I think the key is to make sure that people realise what a talent Kovy is. He's been pretty much hidden from the mainstream (by that I mean people who only have a passing interest in hockey, who, incidentally, are a marketeers dream) due to being buried under a pretty awful Trashers team for 8 years. Amen. But then I'm only agreeing because I hate the scum as much as the next person here. The truth is that the marketing dep. needs to hype things up a bit around Kovy. Like I said, we all know who he is and what he's capable. But it is a case of letting the plebs know too. So we might have to endure some gringe-worthy ads along the way. Over-hyping is fine in my book. I know we all think that this deal is the biggest thing to happen in sport during the summer, but we are fooling ourselves. It is not the biggest deal and it is merely down to the fact that Kovy is not as recognisable as somebody, say, with a similar track record in baseball or football. I can't really explain why that is. Imagine how much coverage a hitter who had the most home runs since 2001 would get! As an additional anecdote, I was in Atlanta on business in November 2006 and even then all the posters advertising the Trashers games featured either Kari Lehtonen or Marian Hossa. To get bums in seats we need to - If we want to push towards 17k at each game - to convince "potentials" that it doesn't matter that there's a letter "k" in the name and that ends in -alchuk and not -echkin. We need to make sure people realise what a talent this man is. Can't wait for October.
  9. Watching the press conference was among the top 10 highlights of my 19-year history as a Devils fan. Not because Kovy is one of the best players in the league and I am now safe in the knowledge that he will spend the rest of his career at The Rock. Not because Kovy will finally feel settled and he will not only prove that he is a team player but will also challenge Ovy and sh!tney Crapney for the league's points lead next season. Not because Lou has now proved (not that there was any doubt) that he is among the greatest GMs in the history of the game. Not because Zach was at the event and Rolston wasn't. Not because Kovy knew who Pierre-Luc Létourneau-Leblond was, sitting next to Langs. Not because I can spell Pierre-Luc Létourneau-Leblond. Not because it has now been confirmed that the cap is not a problem after all ($6m a year) and we won't lose the likes of Patty or Zach. No, the press conference was among the top 10 highlights of my 19-year history as a Devils fan because the only escalator that was working was the one moving up. The one meant to move people down was out of action. Has there ever been such solid, obvious, clear symbolism in the history of press conferences? We truly now are a team that believes in attack, going up the ice and scoring a few goals. Fast forward to October please. And sign up the escalator. It moves quicker than Rolston.
  10. From nhl.com: "Kovalchuk will earn $6 million each of the next two seasons, $11.5 million for the following five seasons, $10.5 million in the 2017-18 season, $8.5 million for the 2018-19 season, $6.5 million in 2019-20, $3.5 million in 2020-21, $750,000 the following season, and $550,000 for the final five years of the unprecedented deal." 11. Thanks very much! Off topic I know but I'm stupidly excited about the season now. We've got a heatwave on and all I can think about is "Roll on October". Sad. Anyway, I rate Corrente and Tedenby. Would be a mistake to let them go, although teams will probably want Rolston with a package that will be worth something in the long run. Especially as our position is so clear - the offload mode is truly on now. Having said that, the way Lou has handled the whole Kovalchuk deal makes me think that anything is possible for him. He'd probably sort out the Middle East and get Iran to go Jewish if he wanted to. So don't be surprised if we see Rolston and Salvador go to Colorado with somebody like Dan Kelly for Cumiskey, Michael Bournival and some decent picks in the draft.
  12. Aye. Would be sad to see Zubrus go. My kind of a player - one that delivers when it matters. And hopefully teams will appreciate Salvador more than I do. Not that my opinion counts. Wish it did. Nice work on the fix btw. Like it..."Langenbrunners"...
  13. I sincerely hope we get rid of Rolston and Salvador. Watching them was painful at times last season. Mottau got a lot of stick for his inadequacy, but at least he was on a bargain deal. Salvador was guilty of some Mottauesgue howlers that lost us points during the season but for some reason they went largely unnoticed. He is wildly overpaid for what he gives. I understand that his age plays part in his deal but still. Bring back Rolston was just a bad signing from the start. Apart from that one spurt in the fall, he did not look like a 20 goal scorer. He's one of those guys whose stats always look better than he really is. Manages to score meaningless goals.
