Kings interference?

I was wondering what everyone thinks about the way the Kings hold up our players when they try to enter the offensive zone.

I wonder if it's just the refs last night that let it go, or if this is something that is being allowed again.

I'm not for a minute saying that the refs cost us the game. I just wonder if this is an adjustment we have to make, or

if different refs will call it differently.

If they continue not to call it then obviously we need to start doing the same thing.

What do you all think?

I was thinking the same thing. During the game it seemed like every time we tried to dump the puck in and chase it, they were just getting in the way and grabbing us/making contact even though the puck was nowhere in the vicinity. I think Poni got called for an interference for FAR less in Game 6 vs the Rangers...

its definitely an adjustment that we have to make, no need to whine about referring here we cant keep on dumping like that its not working for many reasons

first they're not winning that series just strictly dumping the puck trying to create off the forecheck like they did earlier cause with Quick and LA's d-corp its just not gonna happen. Most of the time they dumped... quick got it (he made some mistakes that almost cost them though) but he's getting to the puck first and we're dumping wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to early our first guy is at the red line and they dump... there's no way he can win that race or keep the puck against the board like that, its always our forward vs the goalie and 2 Ds and its easy for them to defend

almost every time we dumped the kings had a SUPER EASY breakout making passes to wide open guys for the breakout.

That's a huge part of our game, though. I think our dump ins have to be better, but I don't think we change our

whole game because it's the Kings.

I also thought of the penalty on Poni that was waay less than what they're doing. It really borders on holding/interference.

I think DeBoer has been excellent at making adjustments in these playoffs, and I expect him to do the same in this

series.

we shouldnt stop dumping but we have to make better decisions doing it or if its better to dump or carry on each breakout. REALLY often they dump it eventhough they dont have a chance of winning the race or regain possession. They are just giving the puck to the opposition and the kings have an excellent transition game so the puck is out in no time and we have 1 or 2 guys behind the play so they have a oddman rush most of the time

As Sterio pointed out, many times we were dumping it too early/from too far out. We need to carry it close to their blue line and then dump it and win some battles down low/on the boards. When you dump it in from center ice it is awfully hard to win the battles and get control of the puck...

and that when our dman doesnt make a bomb pass to a forward who's gonna deflect it deep... about 50% of the time he miss the guy and we ice the puck

next game i'm seriously gonna try to keep track of all our breakouts and break down all our attempts and the results... on top of my mind this it was it was in game 1

15% - icing

17.5% - dump and chase, losing possession, easy breakout for LA

7.5% - dump and chase, getting possession off the forecheck leading to a scoring chance

15% - dump and chase, getting possession off the forecheck leading to nothing

5% - carrying the puck in the offensive zone leading to a scoring chance

10% - carrying the puck in the offensive zone leading to nothing

20% - guys flicking the puck to LA's Ds, going back in D-mode

10% - simply losing possession of the puck in the neutral zone

i may be wrong... but to me thats what it is...

I was also wondering how / why this has not or was not called. . . . I thought the rule was a players route to the puck could not be impeded if the player (defender in our case here) was not attempting to play the puck. . . . .but hey I COULD BE wrong.

Rule 56 - Interference

56.2 Minor Penalty - A minor penalty shall be imposed on a player who interferes with or impedes the progress of an opponent who is not in possession of the puck.

My brother was talking about this before the game started. Apparently one of the strategies that sutter implemented when becoming the coach was this interference while moving you feet tactic. Its surprising how the refs rarely call interference when the kings keep their feet moving. Its something the devils are ganna have to get around. I have full confidence in the coaching staff and team to make the adjustments necessary to win this series

I also have confidence that DeBoer and the coaching staff will adjust.

It's just that it seems like clear cut interference and I'm wondering if different refs will

see it as such. I was really surprised when it happened the first few times and there was

no call.

If it is going to be allowed this series than Greene, Sal, Fayne, etc should all start implementing the same tactic. If Kopitar or Brown try skating by you without the puck, get in their path give them a few palms to the chest shoulders to slow them down. If the Kings can do it, we should also.....

To be fair, I do recall seeing us do it a few times as well, though probably not as severe as the Kings. Doughty in particular would really latch on and completely take our forechecker out of the play on more than one occasion. I'm all for letting the players play, but if gets to the point where you can't dump the puck and chase, then the refs need to start calling it.

What exactly is the rule? how far are you allowed to push a dumper laterally?

the other rules which are way too objective are the hits after a pass is made ( how long after a pass are you still checkable?)and charging where a guy comes in gliding full speed and drills a player. are strides before gliding and contact counted??

but to sterios point, yeah, skate the dam thing in every once in awhile. this is were healthy kovy would be a HUGE HUGE difference. he gets no gap now

I noticed it a few times. I liked how the refs called the game though. I maybe wish they had called one early to set the tone, but by and large I thought the refs did a good job.

A whole lot better than the Kings/Yotes game 5 debacle.
