Hope those 6 games were worth it for him.

He didn't do anything wrong. Guy wanted to play and found a team willing to play him. Probably was very worth it to him, in that he got to do what he still loves to do and got a little extra coin to boot. Kind of hoping he moves on now, but that's up to him and 30 NHL teams.

I'd like him to move on so I don't buy another jersey.

The drama, the waiting, now being cut (probably tough to swallow) with his pride/ego/pedigree.

He still wanted to play. He felt he had something left and didn't want to retire wondering if he had anything left. I don't know why so many people hold that against him.

Cuz he coulda been a backup here and retired gracefully. If he had told Lou to sign him one more year and talk Pete into giving him 20-25 games and the ones at bell centre, that woulda been done in a snap. But he has a giant ego.

Already hissy fitting his way out of St. Louis.

He's going to try and work out a release and go play elsewhere.

"Marty will take a week to reflect on his current status," Brodeur's agent Pat Brisson of CAA Sports told ESPN.com. "He still has the appetite to play and compete, no doubt about it, but just wants a week to reflect on his situation. And the Blues were nice enough to grant it."

He had to leave here. You already have idiots doubting Cory every time he let's a goal in. It just wouldn't work with Marty on the bench for it. They tried that last year and it just doesn't work.

Why wouldn't it work if he came back with the clear intention of being the backup? They didn't try that last year. Last year they were always identified as co-starters.

He would be holding back Kinkaid, who has been terrific. Kinkaid is much better than Brodeur at this point.

Kinkaid is pretty solid. He's very calm and reminds me of Talbot. What if the Devils didn't give away their 1st for Schneider? That was a great draft. It's the classic second guess. Not a knock on Schneider. He's done as well as possible. But it's just one of those what 'if's'. A lot of talented players went in that draft. As for Brodeur, it's sad to see it coming to an end. I hate to see him go out like this. I guess I was hoping he'd be able to hang around. Sentimentality.

I agree CR. I don't get why fans do that. Marty was legendary and accomplished everything as a Devil. He's allowed to hang around. It's his choice. Many athletes have a hard time hanging it up.

We'd probably have Kinkaid/Marty going 50/50 and Lou ends up taking Samuel Morin

I was at the draft and I had the reaction of a Jets fan when Kyle Brady was drafted as I was amazed that Nischshukin was available. I calmed down a bit later and realized the trade was a good one. I can only imagine what I would have felt if they kept the pick as, from what you hear, they would have drafted someone else.

It was time for Marty to go. Just was. I don't care what the arrangement might have been going into this season...I think both parties simply needed to move from each other. Not the end of the world, really. I'd rather have a kid like Kinkaid who fully accepts being a backup, than a fading veteran who will probably always feel that he needs playing time to have any shot of succeeding. That's not a slight on Marty, but I don't think he'll ever really think of himself as a true backup.

As for leaving "gracefully"...sure, would've been great if he had retired a Devil, but he felt like he still had something left. The only terms he has to leave the game on are his...not yours, mine, or anyone else's. Like I and others have said: there was a team willing to play him, though everyone involved knew it might be very temporary. It's gone about how many have expected: Marty stopping pucks at a below-average rate, and the circumstances that allowed Marty to play in the first place changing (Elliot returning from injury). I do hope Marty is seriously considering retirement during his week leave of absence, but if he and the Blues work out an exit for him, and another team wants to bring him in, so be it.

All of this is really nothing more than a footnote to an outstanding career anyway. Yeah, there will just a little bit of "he hung on too long"...oh well. He's not the first and won't be the last on that count.

About 14,480 of your posts are hissy fits so you think you'd know one when you see one, but you've been blind for years.

Not even close to being true...but whatever. I don't even know you who you are on this message board.

Brodeur is pretty much at the end. He is trying to whine his way to another team...if nobody else wants him he will retire. He's come to that final crossroads of his career.

You all are too emotional. The man wanted to extend his career, can't fault him for that. Has nothing to do with ego, at this point. Just another guy who loves the game and wants to keep playing it.

I don't know why anyone would "hold this against him".

My dad was an accountant for 30 years, retired very young with pension and everything and at his retirement ceremony, he cried during his speech. And if a "consultant" position/opportunity made its way onto his desk, he'd take it in an instant. Don't forget, we're all humans here...

I don't think Marty is doing anything wrong in the current situation but this is just hard to watch anymore.  Hopefully he comes to grips with the fact that the on ice part is over for him in the next week.

only marty can decide what is right for him if he thinks he still has a chance to play elsewhere then im sure he will continue to wait and look to see where he can go from here.. too many people care way too much about what he decides to do. He gave this team alot during his career now lets just be happy for whatever decision he decides to make for himself its not affecting this team any more.

The Blues are claiming now that Brodeur's leave of absence 'caught them off guard'.  Although who knows what that means.  I don't see how this isn't the end of the road for him although maybe his options are in the Eastern Conference and he has to mull those over.

This is as messy as I expected the situation to be. Not sure what the Blues were expecting to get with Brodeur, and if finding out was worth carrying 3 goalies, trying to juggle personalities, etc. They have a good thing with Elliott and a young goalie in Allen (not the solution yet, but there is plenty of time). Marty was never the solution. And I imagine they want to get him off the roster before February 1st. With that contract, there is incentive not to play him.

I'm with you that it's the end of the road.
