Triumph
Kurri had a very small window when he did not play with Gretzky, and in that period of time he was still tremendous in the regular season and playoffs (winning a cup). If he'd never seen Wayne in his life Kurri would've still found his way to 1000 points He played with Messier then, and Messier is also a Hall of Famer. I think Kurri is probably a great player who scores 500+ goals without any HOF-type centers, but it's hard to say, and his decline was somewhat ugly. But Kurri is good enough that he would've ended up wiith good or great linemates wherever he went. Say he ended up in Winnipeg...Hawerchuk. Quebec? Stastny's He was very effective up until 34 or so. 34 in 1994 seemed a lot older in NHL years then. Plus he had more playoff miles than most other guys. Bryan Trottier pretty much fell off a cliff after he turned 32...it's probably the accumulated playoff wear and tear
