Brodeur Stick

I don't think i've ever seen a stick used by Marty where he wrote the team's nicname such as "AVS". He usually writes "COL" or "NYR" or "NYI", etc.

Marty used this all black model stick in 98-99. I'm not sure exactly as i type this when Marty switched Heaton models from all black w/white & red trim w/Devil horns to the wood grain shaft version sans horns on paddle. He did sometime between 98-99 to 99-00. Some quick reference though pics i have of him shows him using another version of Heaton stick that has a wood grain shaft w/red and black trim and different paddle graphics sans the Devils tails in the 99-00 season.

The Devils played Colorado on 11/28/98 and 12/12/98, so if you go by the stick date stamp, these games are out. In the 99-00 season, the Devils played Colorado on 2/17/00 and 3/2/00, so they played Colorado before the 2001 Finals as the seller erroneously states.

Also, the Brodeur Heaton model on auction was sold in pro shops and we're dated as well.

I Getty imaged a pic of Marty on 2/17/00 in a game vs the Avalanche. He can be seen he's using a different version of the stick in the auction as it's the later model i described above. It would be pretty safe to guess that on 3/2/00 he was also using the same model stick.

I would not be comfortable bidding on this stick at all. From just basic research he did not use this stick vs COL in 98-99 as the Devils played the Avs before the stick stamp date of 1999. Also, in 99-00 Marty changed or had changed stick models by the time the Devils played COL again on 2/17/00 and presumably 3/2/00 as the visual evidence shows.

I'm with you on this one unknown poster. The one thing that has me wondering though is that the tape job seems consistent with a gamer I have (a CCM)although that could be replicated by someone. I have heard of this model being sold in stores. I would be careful with this one. Too bad too, I have been looking for a Heaton to add to the old collection.

Yep, that's the problem rocks, Marty uses such a simple tape job, that it can be taped by anyone. Add that to an older stick like his Heatons that were sold in good pro shops and you have a recipe for a problem. A photomatch is the only way to go.

This is where i wish Meigray would get one in, although if they are aksing $1000 for Lundqueer i can imagine Marty's would be more.

Agreed. I hate to see pro player patterns in stores complete with date stamps. This was a real problem locally a few years ago when many local hockey equipment shops were able to make "special purchases" of these types of items at year end "sales" from some of the reps from almost every "reputable" company.

There certainly is a place for a Meigray type entity in the game used stick market but I agree that having them involved just seems to create a higher end market for these items and the market cannot handle the inflated prices.

I have been lucky with a great contact over the years as I have an NHL trainer obtain my items directly from the players....it sucks not having an NHL team here anymore... :( .This was the case the last few years when I was able to obtain a gamer stick from pretty much every big name player I have requested.

As you stated, I have also never seen the opposing teams nickname written on the knob.

Good research on this one!
