I personally could care less about the goal song, I'm just happy they score a goal period.  The ys chant sounds stupid, childish, and is in no ways a tradition, but if you want to act like an idiot and chant along like a 5th grader go ahead.  Yes as a whole it makes our fan base look bad, but if your happy with that keep on saying you suck at random points in the goal song.  Living on LI I go to alot  of islander games and there fans have a great time without chanting you suck after a goal.  (actually they did when they had r&r part 1 as there goal song but STOPPED when they quickly changed it).,  They chant yes after a goal, which I still don't get, but there having fun and thats all that counts.

Also for people who say hockey isnt a "family or kid sport" the isles have tons of families and kids at every game and are prob the most kid friendly team in the tri-state area.

I remember right after they got rid of RR pt 1 on the Island, they used a team-made song (like the Devils did). The fans tried to cram "you suck" into it, but it was so awkward that eventually they gave up.

Here it is....

Saying "you suck' is a sign of lower intelligence. The people that still persist in it, I'd venture a guess, have an average IQ of 93. I was completely naive to think that they would get the message.

For all of you that might be lurking, you're like an army of even stupider John Sterlings. You have ruined the experience. Congratulations.

No offense, you have no standing to call into question the intelligence of other human beings when you describe them as being "stupider" than someone else.

We get it...you hate the chant. But guess what, 99% of the people doing it don't read these blogs and 100% don't give a sh!t about your opinion.

I am really amazed at how angry and affected by a goal song and chant the people on both sides of this argument are. But reading the continuous comments about it is like the movie Groundhog Day. The same arguments and points are being made day after day and yet nothing changes.

That's exactly the issue. It's immature and petty to insist on yelling "you suck" just to stick it to management, but it's equally immature and petty for management to have changed the goal song without any notice and then to try blast the music all in an attempt to get rid of or hide the chant.

It's the lamest pissing contest I've ever seen. The way management went about things is why some people are yelling "you suck" to spite them. If they had been upfront about it from the get-go, things might have gone smoother.

I was beating that drum last year but they WERE up front about it this year and the fans are still being pizzy about it.

The problem with YS honestly has nothing to do with the "language" or "crassness" of it. It was becaue all these jabronis would chant it when the devils scored a goal when they were losing 3-0 to make it 3-1.

There was no thought into it.

Denver he the stupid "IN-COM-PLETE" when a pass is not completed on 3rd down. But you won't hear it when the team is losing.

That was always the biggest problem. I wanted it gone for that reason. But I was screaming it at the top of my lungs when Henrique scored against the Rangers.

If people were smart enough to use it in the right context, you'd have more people behind it.

This is hands down my argument and has been since YS went crazy in the late 2000s. To say its "tradition" is the worst argument anyone can have especially considering that it was not used until the final year-ish of CAA and carried over into The Rock. Its not about creating a family environment.

Yes, the team was VERY up front about it when they said they wanted to change the song.

Pro or anti YS alike, if you boo a goal song after your team scores a goal, you're dumb. Whether or not you agree with the selection, whether or not you're mad about having a "say in the matter," whether or not you like it, you boo a home team goal as a fan, you're a special special person.

They weren't up front about it from what I remember and they have never come out and said they don't want the you suck or sucks to be said at the games. They just changed stuff, like not announcing the visiting teams lineup anymore.

And if you want to talk about context no one in the arena was booing the goal or the team when that happened. They were booing managements decision to pick an awful song by a guy who isn't even a Devils fan without even warning the majority of the fan base.

This year, not last year when they actually did it.  Last year you had to read TG's blog comments or internet forums to know the goal song was being changed.

Not in so many words but their statement was thinly veiled last year.

Why do you think they have no balls about it? Why not just come out and be honest? It might have worked better then the current situation.

It's literally more than half the crowd, with the amount of empty seats we have had for the Rangers game and the game last night the last thing this team will do is start kicking people out for saying you suck. If they do that we will be drawing less then the Panthers

It's more than just 'individuals'.  Maybe it's sourced in the uppers but it's a pretty fair amount of people that do it.

Heh, didn't know it was still like that.  I know it started out that way, but from reading the various discussions here about it, I thought it had finally boiled down to a vocal minority.  Guess not.

And you dont think you and other hardcore anti YSers arent acting childish with the way you are presenting your case? Where is the middle ground? Apparently you are a mutant neanderthal or a country club snoot that thinks a NHL game should has the same atmosphere as a Bergen county country club.

There has to be some sort of compromise because what is going on now isnt gonna cut it. For the record I would boo this goal song too because it's just fvcking awful. Really I'm more for bringing back R&R 2 over the whole YS chant but the whole hall monitor attitude of anti YSers is just so fvcking off putting that it makes me want to be the most hardcore pro YS guy out of spite.

It seems to me like there is no compromise, at least as far as the pro-YSers are concerned.

Just to chime in here, my brother is a die hard Broncos fan and I've been forced to watched a disproportionate amount of Broncos games in my life.. They do the in-com-plete chant after every incomplete pass (by the visiting team) regardless of which down it is and how bad the they are losing (which hasn't been too often as of late).

There's no compromise on either side.  This debate is politics-like, each side blames the other for being obstinante when they're being just as obstinate in their viewpoint and each side just has the same talking points.

Probably cause they think it would be even more unpopular than it already is if they admitted it was about 'YS'.  Even though every action they take including scrapping the opposition intros and pumping up the volume during the goal song says it's about YS.

So it's all about people enjoying themselves and having unless they have fun doing something you don't like and find idiotic? Seems a bit contradictory. Just sayin'. For better or worse, it seems "You Suck" isn't going away anytime soon barring drastic actions from the team that will almost certainly not be worth it in the long run (kicking people out, no goal song, etc., real cutting off your nose to spite your face level stuff).

Also, the new goal song flat out sucks. I'm legitimately considering bringing earplugs to games at this point because of how obnoxiously loud and terrible it is.

The sound level for the goal song and the music in general was much better the last home game. I don't think the song is that bad. The whooaas in it just don't sound right though and it impossible to chant along with them.

They're "Woos" not "Whoas."

What experience? The building has been quieter than a library this year. It's a joke.

The New York Red Bulls clinched a playoff game at home on Thursday night, same night that we play Winnipeg at home. I'm selling my Devils tickets and going to Red Bull Arena instead, because Devs home games have been silent, and boring as sh!t this season, and we've lost all three. What experience are you talking about???

You have answered your own question with the bolded part.

But I agree with Daniel and would much have a quiet arena over thousands of those types he described his post.

I'll be skipping the Devils game too but I always skip the early season Devils games for Red Bulls end of season / playoff games just like I'll skip early season Red Bulls games for end of season / playoff games for the Devils.

That being said the south ward at the Red Bulls games have been awful this year with all the in fighting between the supporters clubs.

There is most certainly a middle ground, and I'm hoping the Devils find it.

I personally won't spend the money attending games if the arena becomes as stale and corporate as MSG, but if that's what it takes for the Devils to be successful..so be it.

I wouldn't mind a middle ground either but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.  I agree it shouldn't be too corporate but the Devils really need corporate support in the worst way.

Right now what you are seeing is a huge backlash against the YS crowd by a lot of the anti-YS crowd as well as most people who have been sitting on the fence about the issue.  Most fans are quite frankly sick and tired of this debate over the goal song and the constant whining over everything and anything the new ownership has done and/or is doing.  I think after this backlash is going (which I will admit im apart of) I think things will settle down a bit.
