There is nothing more Boucher can do to look good in Juniors, but I still can't be too excited for him until I see him performing in the AHL.  Too many guys flame out coming out of juniors, big scorers who are undrafted or low picks especially.

Haha, posted exactly what I thought.  20 to 25 goals (per 80 games) is what I'd be looking for, and even that may not portend an NHL future.

Agreed. As nice as it is to see him putting up these numbers, I can't get too excited about this guy until I see how his overall game translates to the pros. His shot was always said to be elite, I want to know how his skating and defensive game are progressing. I see on twitter a lot of people bring up Stamkos' 58 goal season for Sarnia but he did that at age 17 compared to Boucher doing this at age 19. Still it's nice to have an offensive prospect in the system, hopefully he pans out.

I'm not sure where to put this but:

Does anyone know the story with Charles Sarault? Leading the OHL in points this year. Also played great last year with Galchenyuk. I'm guessing he is Boucher's line mate this year. I wonder why he wasn't drafted.

Sarault is going to turn 21 in 9 days and is listed at 5'11 184. I'm going to guess that perhaps he was a bit small in his draft years. At the end of the year where he turned 18 he just put up a 62 GP 4-12-16 -19 line and followed that up with a 67 GP 13-25-38 +1 line the next year. It seems he has really benefited the past 2 seasons by being one of the older players in the league. Maybe some team takes a chance on a professional tryout contract with him.

For whatever reason, I'm just not getting excited by Boucher. The Cy Young numbers score me a a bit (the goals to assist ratio, like a pitcher with a great record) plus he is racking up a ton of power play goals. How likely is that to translate to the next level?

Was just going to post this. I am also scared on the amount of goals he is getting on the PP and just hope his game translates to the next level.

I have barley seen any of his play beyond highlights, so I won’t even offer to add any insight to that. But like with all prospects in the Devils organisation

his success at the next level will depend a lot on his ability to play the game in both ends, which is what concerns me more than his ability to put the puck in the net. Even from the highlights you can see the guy has an NHL quality shot, and he does take up good scoring positions on the ice.

I think that the fact he is an overage player, playing junior, on a good team will have a lot of people wondering the same thing. The current disappointment about the latest crop of prospects to be given a shot at the NHL is probably making people even more sceptical.

If we could chop off Bouchers arms and sew them onto Josefsons body we might have a complete hockey player.
