This is really good, I notice a considerable difference.

For this who do not use Mozilla Firefox yet, I STRONGLY recommend it!

How To Speed Up Firefox (Helpful Vanity)

Posted on 12/12/2004 12:45:50 PM PST by KoRn

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

FIREFOX RULES ALL

I can't believe how much it helped in my last paper. I was analyzing eight films and had each film's imdb.com page open as a tab, it was SO easy to switch back and forth.

I'm never touching IE again. Never. This browser is light years ahead of IE.

Will try fix now...

I couldnt agree more mrsheeps.

Little note about this: Maker sure you close any Firefox browsers you have running at the time and re-open.

Also: If you are on a LAN at the office, you will notice a difference, but probably will notice more when working over DSL or Cable connections.

Yeah, the mozilla revolution continues!!!!!

The one thing about it though is on some message boards it loads slowly, because of the way it loads. Such as with coloradoavalanche site and the mapleleafs site. And to an extent this site at times.

Its great when ur using bittorent, because it still goes so much faster. Its great too, because its great at blocking pop ups and i feel so much more safe with this.

Well, I'm willing to try anything non-Microsoft at least once... *downloads*

Edit:

Seems to work perfectly! Thanks LotCB! With that modification, it's much faster than Safari was. With the additional bonus that my bank accepts it as Netscape, so I can do my banking without IE.

I can now get the last shred of Microsoft software off my machine. Goodbye IE. It's a good day. ;)

Just remember, not all sites will work with Firefox (yet?). So you probably shouldn't remove IE altogether. There is a Firefox extention where you can open a link in IE which is pretty cool.
