Carcillo suspended ten games

Just a really dumb move on his part.  Still not sure what he was thinking on that one...unless he was having a "WWDCD?" moment.

You're either seriously not understanding this concept, or you're arguing for the sake of arguing.

Its probably a little of both. After all, we're just a bunch of insecure paranoid nuts because we hate the Rangers. Thank God we have Point and Manta here to protect everyone from the insanity. Edited by MadDog2020

it makes perfect sense.. no one on this board is going to jump ship if the team sucks and start rooting for another team.. its ok to like other teams but if youre on this board that means a few things.. youre interest in the team is at a certain point where youve googled devills forum boards and now youre spending time here reading up and discussing things all realated to devils hockey.. however for the fans that go to a game here and a game there that are not your "super fans" i see absolutely no reason why they wouldnt be led to go cheer for another team that is in the same geographical location ..people like being fans of winning teams no one wants to watch a sh!tty performance .. it obviously helps a lot when the team is exciting to watch and has a good on ice product.

More so than you realize.

Prust suspended two games. More garbage from the NHL. He should've been given a bonus and a pat on the back.

Two games for what should've been an interference major and game. Yet the explanation makes it sound worse. He had enough time to avoid Stepan. I'm disappointed. The NHL preaches player safety. But in an instance where the 3 blind mice and 2 linesmen missed it, they give Prust a slap on the wrist. If Stepan had not shown balls coming back, he'd probably have gotten the rest of the series.

Like many NYR fans, I liked Prust. He was a good player who gave an honest effort. I don't ever remember him being dirty. That was a deliberate cheap shot. I was told Stepan had a plate put in his jaw. I think maybe he'll play Sunday with a caged helmet. But who knows.

They are going crazy about that call, the non-call on Prust, and the supposed "slew-foot" during the stoppage.  A slew-foot involves tripping from behind, and pushing the upper body backwards.  There was no push, it was just a trip, and whoever it was on took an obvious dive anyway which is why it wasn't called.

Without ignoring the rules, I don't see how anyone can argue Carcillo's game misconduct.  It is a perfect example of this rule, and he should be suspended at least 3 or 10 games.

As for the Prust hit on Stepan:

It may seem late, but Stepan was still the player in possession of the puck.  It wasn't a headshot, a charge, or an elbow either.

I didn't see the slewfoot. Last round, Crosby got away with one on Girardi. The reason people are upset about Carcillo has to do with Scott Driscoll. He grabbed him. That doesn't excuse Carcillo for his reaction. It was selfish.

Dude, the hit was late. It was almost a full second. The puck was gone and in the video explanation on Prust's suspension, they further said that Stepan took two steps away from Vanek. Then froze it showing Prust with enough time to avoid it. It wasn't a headshot. Correct. But it came from the blindside. That is Rule 54.4 and can be interpreted as a major penalty with an automatic game under 54.5. Under the rules, they can eject the player for causing an injury.

Does anyone here still care about the Kings and Hawks? I was out to honor and pay respect to our friend's 4-year anniversary. He was only 20. We did a candle vigil where he used to work. Very sad. It really makes me think about what's important. Anyway, we were at Applebee's afterwards and they had the game on. There were a bunch of guys cheering for LA. I came in in time to see the Kings erupt. What do you guys think about that series?

Kind of indifferent.  I usually tune out emotionally when the Devils aren't in it, but I do check out different series and games here and there.

I really miss the more consistent "every other day" format.  Rangers/Canadiens had two days off between Games 2 and 3 and will have had two days off again by Game 4.  To me, it kind of wrecks the flow a bit.

It sucks that all I have left at the moment as a Devils fan is to root against my rival, but that's how it goes.  At some point, we all either remember or discover what it's like to live on the other side.  I'm sure a lot of Ranger fans were hating 2000 and 2003.  Just wondering Derek...who do Ranger fans consider their most intense rival now?  Is it the Devils or the Islanders?

Pretty much how I feel too... At this point I'm expecting the Rangers to be in the Finals, and both teams from the west have a good shot to beat them, so I really don't care who wins that series. As long as the team that does takes care of business next round. Edited by MadDog2020

I care about the Kings and Hawks. It's the best series out of the two, and probably should serve to be some of the best hockey we get until October. At the end of the day both of those teams should be there, I actually called that series in my bracket. Plus it's the only respite from the Rags and Habs.

I really don't see why it's so mind blowing that there is so much hatred for the Rags in here. Sports are driven by hatred for some people, especially when your own team is out of it. Their success does absolutely negatively impact us too, if you don't believe that then please be sure to show up to the first NYR @ NJD game next season. I'll be there and I'm not looking forward to it...

Of course the linesman grabbed Carcillo, he was called for a penalty and needed to be escorted to the box because he wasn't going there on his own, and according to the replay escorting wasn't enough, he needed to by physically held and lifted into the box.  He's not supposed to stay on the ice for the fight, he's supposed to go straight to the box.

If that's an interference penalty, then the rule needs to be reworded.  Nobody else had the puck yet, so Stepan was still the player in possession from the rules' point of view.  I think you're referencing the wrong rule, Rule 54 is holding.

I've read most of this thread and gotten some opinions from others that have taken part, so I'll add a few more thoughts and ask a few more questions. This is based on many of the posts over the last week or so in this thread:

Call it sacrilegious, but not only am I not cheering against the Rangers, not only is the Rangers winning the Cup to me be like if the Hawks won it 2010, or the Bruins in 2011, but I'd be genuinely happy for certain people if the Rangers won the Cup just like I am with any other team just as a fan of the game and seeing great players do well. So there all my cards are on the table...

As much as I love sports, rivalries don't interest me at all. I care about my team and that's it. I get joy out of the team I cheer for winning, and not from any other team losing. I get that I am different. Not better or worse than anyone here. It might have something to do with not cheering for a single team in my hometown and being close to the rivalries, it might not be. I'm not sure. But being where I am has shown me that every rivalry between fans is practically the same with each saying the other is insufferable.

I really think the Ottawa-Toronto rivalry is very similar to NJ-NY, where there are still so many Leafs fans in Ottawa, no matter how crappy they are, their fans still feel entitled because they are Toronto Maple Leafs fans and always have some historical series to piss Sens fans off about no matter how long ago it was. They also come in and own the Senators building. On the other hand, Leafs fans find Senators fans infatuated with the success and failures with the Maple Leafs more than the success and failures of their own team. I also see that Senators fans do relish in the Leafs' failures and don't let any opportunity slip from reminding any Toronto fans how pathetic their organization is. When the Leafs missed the playoffs, it was a celebration in Ottawa, but I also thought it was amusing that more joy was taken from that than than disappointment of their own team's very disappointing season where the playoffs were expected either way.

Here are my questions:

Some people here discuss Rangers fans like they are the most obnoxious kind of fans in the world, but the dynamic fascinates me for a few reasons: Firstly, as many have said, so many of their friends happen to be Rangers fans, siblings, parents, aunts and uncles are Rangers fans. We are talking about friends and family here! How insufferable can they be? I have to assume these people are good people, so it can be anything more than good old-fashioned friendly jawing, right?

Secondly, because of where you live and the Sports teams around it, the very same people many find insufferable idiot sports fans, happen to be on the same team in sports fandom when it comes to the Yankees/Mets, Giants/Jets, Red Bulls and maybe now Brooklyn Nets. Do these people suddenly become different when it isn't the Rangers? Does their arrogance suddenly change when rooting for a different team? Do you stop and say I am a Giants and Yankees fan, but man I simply can't associate with these fans because that same annoyance or cockiness resonates for other teams. Or as I imagine, because you root for the same team, it doesn't matter anymore because you are now "brothers" in fandom.

If the Rangers do win and you have to live through those fans having the upper-hand for the first time in 20 years, it's going to suck, no doubt about it. It's a group of arrogant sports fans finally having something to cheer for. But it hasn't been like Devils fans haven't been gleefully rubbing in their success and the Rangers failures over the last 20 years. I get there is a resilience to Rangers fans, it can be fvcking annoying or admirable, depending on how you look at it, but it's going to be the same Devils fan resilience that gets many through it, and maybe it makes us look like idiots to them. The Devils fans have a lot of things to hang their hats on, but it becomes irrelevant in the prism of a rivalry that should be about what have you done lately.

As everyone here has a story about a Rangers fan, all of them have been made out to make them so insufferable. CR1976 has the funny post about a Rangers fan bringing up 1994 and the Rangers going through NJ and winning the Cup, and the Devils not doing the same in 2012. It's silly, but god knows that's what we'd be doing if it was the other way around because that's all you got. We laugh about 1994, and everything the Rangers have done to honour that team since then, and rightfully fvcking so..rightfully fvcking so, it's absolutely embarrassing, but time flies, and it's been 11 years since the Devils won anything. If the Rangers do happen to win the Cup and brag about it, Devils fans will be responding with outdated comebacks. I hope many realize that, and I bet many do and that's what scares you about the Rangers winning. If the Rangers win the Cup in 2014, 2012 does become irrelevant. It would almost be like Rangers fans bringing up 1997 after the Devils won the Cup in 2000.

Disregarding a Rangers Cup win and saying, "well we still outnumber you in the last 50+ years" becomes just as pointless and soon Devils fans will become like Rangers fans talking about 1994. It's old news and desperate.

Anyway, the good news is that we are a long way from that. Those are pretty much all my thoughts on the matter and wanted to get them out in one post.

I think it really comes down to if you don't or haven't lived here then you just can't get it. That doesn't make you any less of a Devils fan but after all this discussion I think that's what it comes down to.

Yep. That's pretty much what it boils down to.

Satan's Hockey pretty much said it perfectly.  You don't live here, you just can't grasp it entirely.

That being said, not ALL Ranger fans are like the ones we've described in great detail.  I've met some who are not the slightest bit abrasive, annoying, arrogant, etc.  I've met some that I can talk hockey with, in a completely civilized manner, with no issues whatsoever.  But there are PLENTY that are EXACTLY as described...enough that we notice them (they also tend to be the loudest).  The stereotype of THAT type of Ranger fan that I posted about is accurate.

I wouldn't throw 2012 in their faces, because to me it's old news now...the Devils haven't made the playoffs since.  And let's face it, since the 2005 lockout ended, they're about on even keel...I guess you could give a slight edge to the Devils due to their winning the 2012 ECF, but it's not so much of a win that I would start talking any smack over it...especially since the Devils didn't go on to win another Cup.

What you have to understand is there's a noticeably large group of Ranger fans that is not only as guilty of living in the past as their organization is, but somehow think their past is a lot richer and prouder than it really is...their team has won one damned Cup in 74 years!  They're cocky without having much to be cocky about.  It's like I said, that particular group (and it DOES feel like a majority) STILL thinks that throwing '94 in our faces somehow means something.  And it doesn't matter how calmly, rationally, or logically you attempt to explain to them why the Rangers beating the Devils in the '94 ECF is no longer a thorn in our sides...they can't fathom that at all.  That's where the pure stupidity kicks in...I've never seen anything quite like it.  It's not like most Devils fans really want to throw 1995-2012 in Ranger fans' faces...it's that so many Ranger fans ignore what happened after '94 that they wind up forcing our hand.

And it does seem to be a Ranger phenomenon, from both a fan and organizational standpoint.  If there's another franchise or fanbase that has gotten THIS much mileage out of a single championship, I have yet to see it, or am simply not aware of it.

CR1976 nailed it in his post. Really those who don't live in this area are really in no position to try to "educate" us on this topic.

Also from my personal memories by and large the devils fanbase never really bring up their 95-03 run of three cups to rags fans like rags fans being up 1994 to devils fans. It is indeed sheer stupidity and they really do believe that all devils fans are still haunted by it. Plus we have a network (the one that the devils are on!) that constantly play repeats of it every summer after the rags either are knocked out or not make the playoffs as if it is the all-time pinnacle of hockey achievement and every rag fan buys into it.

Looking back I really myself personally and devils fans as a whole really should have stuck it to rangers fans more between 98-2004. Looking back I really feel we were way to nice to them after all the sh!t they used to give us before and now after.
