Is it just me or does Reid Boucher seem to be kind of streaky? Maybe it's the team though.

Boucher does appear to be a streaky player going by his game by game stats. Recently he went from 7 points in 5 games to 1 point in his past 9 games. Most of his points are from the power play which also leads to his low plus/minus rating. I'd be curious to hear what scouts have to say about his even strength play, especially defensively.

I had a quick google but i couldn't find anything but is there a reason Patrick Daly hasn't played a game in what seems like forever?

Daly is the extra defenseman as a freshman for Wisconsin, playing in just 11 games so far. Faust had a similar role last year playing in only 20 games but has already played in all 24 this year. He's behind Schultz (JR 2/43 ANA), Simonelli (SO), Ramage (JR 4/103 CGY), Faust (SO 4/114 NJ), Little (SR), and McCabe (2012 47th Ranked Prospect) on the depth chart. He saw most of his action when McCabe was injured.

It's really nice Scarlett is having such a nice season offensively. Mock drafts had him all over the place, since his numbers weren't good but his team stunk and he was playing an enormous amount of minutes, so it's looking good for the guys that ranked him higher than where he was drafted so far.

Tuesday 1/24

WHL:

Swift Current lost to Moose Jaw 3-0

Reece Scarlett (D): -1

Season: 47 GP 8 G 27 A 35 Pts -23 56 PIM

In Lou We Trust did a great preview of some prospects that could be available when the Devils draft. I suggest checking it out. Some thoughts on two of the guys below:

Collberg is one of the draft eligible guys that could slip to the Devils that really caught my eye during the WJC. We know the Devils like the Swedes and he would also have some positional value being a RW, an area of weakness on the Devils depth chart.

Girgensons is also an interesting prospect that could be available. One of the few good Latvian players at the WJC and he's familiar with the North American game playing in the USHL the past 2 years and moving on to the NCAA next year.

I never followed him before this year but the big reason his scoring totals are way up is because he is getting a ton of power play time - 5 of his 8 goals, 18 of his 27 assists, and 23 of his 35 points are from the power play. His +/- is also a bit deceiving since he is getting a lot of even strength minutes to go along with his power play minutes so naturally playing on a bad team (19-25-2-3 43 Pts 10th Place) is going to hurt his rating. As Devils731 posted earlier, it looks like the Devils may potentially get some good value out of this late round selection.

ah, thanks. Got those two confused. Was Scarlett the d-man on the terrible team? Something about the write-up of Scarlett made his name stick in my mind more than other late-round picks, not sure what it was. Jas0n, help me out here.

Ya he was on the terrible team playing 30 minutes a night while being 160 pounds.

2012 CHL Top Prospects Gamesheet

--------

If you are into 2012 prospects then I suggest checking out the following articles:

The Hockey Writers - Complete Review of the CHL Top Prospects Skills Competition

Besides all of the results of the skills competition they have this blurb on how injuries have affected this showcase.

The CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game gets underway tonight (Wednesday, February 1st) when the puck drops at 7 pm PST on Rogers Sportsnet. Injuries have caused some late changes to the rosters as defensemen Cody Ceci (Ottawa 67’s, OHL) and Olli Maatta (London Knights, OHL) as well as forward Charles Hudon (Chicoutimi Saqueneens) are unable to participate due to injury. These late scratches add to the already long list of NHL draft-eligible sidelined with injuries this season including Nail Yakupov, Morgan Rielly, Slater Koekkoek, Alex Galchenyuk, Jarrod Maidens and Matia Marcantuoni among others. Sarnia Sting forward Nail Yakupov returned to the lineup last weekend but will be held out of the Top Prospects game as a pre-cautionary measure which has angered many especially since Mikhail Grigorenko was told that he would be suspended two-games if he missed tonight’s game despite nursing an ankle injury. Injury replacements for Ceci, Maatta and Hudon are Dane Fox (London Knights, OHL), Dillon Fournier (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, QMJHL) and Dalton Thrower (Saskatoon Blades, WHL).

Future Considerations - Top Prospect Game Can Kickstart Stalled Seasons

Here is a bit on a local kid whose draft stock has fallen a lot.

Perhaps that idea holds strongest for Windsor Spitfires defenseman Nick Ebert.

No prospect has fallen from preseason expectations as much as the six-foot-one, 195-pound Livingston, NJ. native. Projected last season as a potential top-5 pick, Ebert is now fighting to maintain his status as a potential first round pick.

Criticized for spreading himself too thin and trying to do too much, Ebert hasn’t produced much offensively, a glaring crack in the game of a defenseman who is considered offensively gifted. After 11 tallies in 63 games last season playing behind Ryan Ellis, Ebert has just three goals and 25 points in 49 contests this year.

The danger with Ebert at the Top Prospects Game is that he attempts to do too much again in light of the fact he’s struggled thus far this season.

The United States of Hockey - American Prospect Update NCAA Draft Elgibles

Ryan Kennedy from The Hockey News - Expect CHL-NCAA Rivalry to Heat Up

Though nothing is written in stone, two high-profile events will be the accelerators. For major junior and, specifically, the Ontario League, the Winter Classic planned for Detroit and Ann Arbor, Mich., will be the point of entry. Obviously the OHL already has a few teams in the state, but with the NHL’s Red Wings and Maple Leafs playing at the University of Michigan’s Big House, an opportunity for undercard games sent pundits buzzing with possibilities. No way would one of college hockey’s biggest programs allow major junior kids to play on their outdoor ice, but since Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch also lays claim to the deed at Comerica Park in Detroit, a second venue has been tabbed for open-air goodness.

The Frozen Four, college hockey’s championship tournament, may be coming to Toronto as soon as 2015.

Wow thank you for all of this. There's some good information there. What is the story with Petr Vrana? Is there a chance that he'd get a shot playing for NJ anytime soon? Those are pretty good stats in the KHL.

I don't know if the Devils are keeping tabs on him but they still own his rights. It may be the KHL but if he finishes the year as a PPG player then I can't see the harm in trying to bring him back. Perhaps he's more developed as a player and would be a solid 2nd/3rd liner for the Devils.

In the KHL Vrana ranks 5th in goals, 6th in points, 12th in assists, and 9th in +/-. He's still young at age 26.

Vrana had a lot of trouble with how physical the NHL was. I don't know how physical the KHL is now, but I imagine it's less than the NHL. Similar to the struggles we're seeing Josefson go through, but obviously Vrana had a much bigger issue to overcome since he's so small.

The KHL is so screwed up, who knows if Vrana is one of the guys that will rake in bucks next year and be wined and dined, in which case I doubt he'd want to even try to come back to the NHL, or he's one of those guys sleeping on floorboards the night before games and worried his semi anonymous team owner is going to come into the locker room brandishing a pistol, in which case you could probably talk him into trying out during camp.
