95Crash
I know it's a little late, but did anyone catch the Antonio Margarito-Miguel Cotto fight? Margarito (37-5) stopped the previously undefeated Cotto (32-1) in the 11th round to take over the WBA welterweight title. Over the weekend, HBO showed the replay of this PPV fight from the week before. I don't get up for many boxing matches these days, but this one was nonstop action. Plus it had the Mexican fighter (Margarito) vs. Puerto Rican (Cotto) fighter drama. Early on, Cotto tagged Maragarito in the face in multiple rounds. But Margarito was unfazed and just kept coming and coming until he finally wore Cotto down late. They say Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s been ducking Margarito in recent years, and this fight showed why. Margarito takes a great punch and throws them just as hard. Not too many jabs from him. I doubt Oscar De La Hoya will want to get in the ring with him either. And even though he lost, Cotto fought a good fight and has nothing to hang his head about. He was the better boxer, landed some great shots, but just couldn't stop him. I heard that he had cried afterward, but the HBO replay didn't show it. He's tough, and he'll be back, I'm sure. 95Crash
I realize there doesn't seem to be a lot of boxing fans here, but HBO is replaying this fight right now as part of its "Boxing's Best of 2008." Right after this, from 11:50 pm to 12:45 am, they are replaying "Marquez vs. Pacquiao II." Good stuff.
