If I had a slightly weaker stomach I could have thrown up about three times over in this game... so suspenseful. Rangers played pretty much the game of their lives. I will always hate the Rangers but I'll at least give them credit for playing a game totally out of their minds. The puck seemed magnetized to their sticks in their end and they had very good legs. I say that with a smirk though because what's likely their best game in several years was a loss. Obviously a shoot-out win isn't ideal, but in a hard-fought battle of a game like that, I think we should be happy to make out with two points.

I agree that Bergfors needs to be bumped back up. The second line was basically dead tonight. McAmmond has gone cold offensively and needs to be bumped down and replaced with Bergfors. Lemaire seems really hesitant to play Elias at center, but I can't figure out why. Other than his bad face-off percentage, that line was very effective offensively with him in the middle. With McAmmond/Niedermayer there nothing's happening. ZZ Pops had a decent game. The fourth line had another good game, Zharkov really opens up space for Pelley and Pikka with his speed, they could have had a goal or two tonight if not for the opponent we were up against.

The clog is in the second line. Whenever they were out there tonight, they just produced nothing. We need to shift Elias back to center, and ideally keep him there.

Hands down, one of the best games of the year. As much as I hate the Rags and Queenie, they played a terific game. I just love that all that hard work went for naught and Marty ends up with another shutout.

What the heck crawled up Avery's butt? was he trying to goad Marty into a fight to get him off his game or something?

Intense game! Both goalies played great. It was hard to give the edge in play to one team. I agree that it was probably the best game the rangers played all season. It's hard to really draw anything from this game, as neither team won in regulation, but it was very entertaining.

i really can't believe how many devils fans there were in the building tonight - had to be between 10-15% which is a good percentage all things considered.

thoughts on madison square garden from the 400 section:

sight lines are terrible, as i've read, and i was far away from the action.

the other rangers fans in the section were straight out of a neil simon play with accents and speech. amusing things: they think langenbrunner is a terrible captain for team USA and made fun of that all night. they also think avery really gets a raw deal from the refs.

anyway what i really saw from the 400 section is that the devils really, really need a center. they are great along the boards and stuff, but generally good playoff teams don't let you win there a lot. if the devils can't enter the zone with the puck or make a crisp pass as the first man in, they are going to have to do a lot to both draw penalties and get quality scoring chances. the good news is that the rangers can be beat along the boards all night. this team really misses dainius zubrus, it's good to hear that he is skating again.

Just came back from MSG. Amazing atmosphere, amazing game. Just another page in the legendary book that is Martin Brodeur. 51 saves through overtime and 4 saves including a beautiful glove save in the shootout?!? This may be Marty's best game since Game 5 vs Carolina last year. This game was reminiscent of the 2000 Cup Finals battles of Brodeur vs Belfour. The Rangers players and fans have to be completely deflated after this one. 107 AND COUNTING!

Just back from the "Gaaaaden"

I agree with Tri.. at least 10% Devils fans... my section we got an unstoppable let's go Devils' chant going... it was awesome

The lighting in there is so dingy that the ice looks yellow... though after last Friday I wasn't going to comment on the lighting at MSG

One thing you can see about Marty from being there was how well he anticipated today. That was one of the top ten heroic goaltending performances I have ever seen.

Rangers played desperate the whole game. Trapped most of the game. We need to figure out the 5-3. My call was Rangers won the ice by a 60%-40% margin. And can we win a faceoff? That problem needs to be address before playoff time.

We miss Martin, Clarkson and Zubrus for sure. Need to get Salvador back with Greene. And we gotta find a center for Elias. He is being wasted.

Best lines of the night were the dude behind me who kept saying, "that f-ing Brodeur is so lucky." And on the way out, some guy in his business suit and trench coat turned to his friend and said, "the good news is that Brodeur can't last forever, he'll die soon enough and this franchise will be over."

BAHAHAHAHAHA

This game reminded me of Brodeur vs Belfour 2000 SCF

It was one of the best games I've ever attended. A shame that such a well played game was decided by a gimmick. I knew we had no chance. It's unfair to face Parise, Langenbrunner, Zajac and then Elias fourth. Games like tonight that are so intensely fought should never come down to a 1-on-1. Hasan said it was a perfect argument for getting rid of the shootout. Why not an extra 2 of 3-on-3? How good would that have been? We'll never know.

Tri, sorry I missed ya. I was in 411 sporting my yellow Sweden Lundqvist.

it's certainly a game i would've preferred to have no shootout. most games aren't that way, though.

derek: ah, i think i was in 404. kinda nice how concessions are laid out up there but also if there's any line it has to be terrible.

also the ice at MSG is so bad, i don't know how they can't fix that

msweet: the devils trapped all game long as well.

ice that is like on the 6th floor is never going to be good... and maybe that's why they don't light the place so you can't see the bad ice

and yes I know the Devil's trapped too... I was pointing out the Rag$ trapping since Rag$ fans have be complaining about us trapping for years.

Yeah. Concessions are alright. I never get anything tho cause the food sucks. Bathrooms though. eh. Plus there's like no room for moving around. All the more reason they're renovating. Too bad Dolan will price the real fans out. This is probably our final year. The atmosphere was great. It wasn't a shock that you were well represented as many sold their tickets weeks ago. Our team just doesn't have enough skill. They had plenty of chances. Boyle's breakaway attempt was pathetic. Rozsival missed a wide wide open net by a mile. Higgins again fanned on one. Against a great goalie, you have to get to loose pucks. Especially when you have so little skill. For the most part, the refs did a nice job allowing the teams to play.

Devils: 45 SOG, 10 missed, 13 blocked (4 Staal) = 68 total

Rangers: 51 SOG, 17 missed, 16 blocked (5 Greene) = 84 total

you know i never thought i would say this but i miss zubrus, reason being is every time i see bergfors on the Jay Pandolfo Rob Niedermayer line i think what a waste, i am hoping when zubrus comes back you will see bergfors with him along with clarkson. one other thing, man did we suck a face offs tonight i would love to know how many we won because it did not look like many

I was also at tonight's game, in 417, with the railing blocking ny view of the net. :(

It seems very odd to say this about a game where there were so many SOG, but I thought the Rangers were very good defensively. They short-circuited many of the Devils' attempts to get the cycle going. It was also hard work gaining the Ranger zone.

Someone in this thread commented that they don't know why Elias isn't playing center, and I agree. Rolston and Elias were not very good tonight, and neither was Dean McAmmond.

Pandolfo, the black hole on offense. That's a good description. ZZ Pops, great game by them as usual, particularly Zach and Jamie.

We were playing for the shootout with Mottau and White out there a lot in the OT. There was a lot of safe play there.

Both goalies were great, but there were a lot of easy saves for both guys. I was actually disappointed that the game had very little snarl.
