Triumph
Blech. I love Zubrus but 3 years is a buyout waiting to happen. Hoping the number comes in around 8.5M total.
MadDog2020
Also of note from TG's blog post: 'Apparently, part of Lamoriello’s recent conversations with agents has been to reassure them and the players of the team’s long-term financial stability – and its future on the ice. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly called reports last week about the team’s finances, “inaccurate,” and stated, “We are not concerned about the Devils’ future or the franchise’s ability to achieve long-term success in Newark.” But, until owner Jeff Vanderbeek completes the process of bringing in new partner(s) and makes an official announcement, some might have doubts and Lamoriello is trying to allay them.' Derlique
Meh not crazy about the third year but he is pretty necessary to have back..at least next year
DH26
shrug regarding the 3rd year. If we didn't give it to him, somebody else would've

devilsrule33
Not the best deal at all. Was hoping he'd get 3 years and 7.5 million. Really not looking forward to Zubrus in year 3. Having said all that, he's an important player for the Devils, and how they like to play the game.
Daniel
A good deal. I can live with the third year. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

maxpower
It's just re-upping an existing slot, but it makes me nervous. In October he'll basically have had one full month played of hockey in 15 months. So no real way to determine if the wheels are about to fall off. He's going to play, though, at least. GoArmySports
As of right now we have $45.XX million in actual payroll and approximately $42.XX on the actual cap for the upcoming season.
Bartholomew Hunt
They didn't overpay a ridiculous amount, but still paid too much. The guy is in his late thirties and coming off an injury. BUT he's an important role player on the team, so overpaying a little bit isn't that big of a deal. Good signing
GoArmySports
I guess Lou finally realized not give out four year contracts to the 35 and older players. Rolston anyone?
ghdi
1 year too long, money is fine. I dont hate the deal, but I dont like it either. It is what it is. I am glad he's staying a Devil though.
JohnnyP.
not bad deal , Zoobs gots something left in the tank Maybe he'll retire before the 3rd season. wasn't it Zoobie that took his family on vacation with the Sykora's and ELIAS' families last year? Bodes even better to keep Patrik cool with the Devils
Zubie#8
Love it for obvious reasons.
Zubie#8
Hopefully Matteau fills in his role nicely when he retires.
roomtemp
So Zubrus is back for a cap hit that was .4 mil less then before. Wonder what that means for Elias
Devilsfan118
MSWEET must be estatic that his favorite customer won't be going anywhere anytime soon. My first thought as well Yeah, not crazy about the 3rd year. But so be it, maybe he gets banished to the 4th line that last year, not a huge problem. 2ELIAS6
Very happy to hear this! And not a bad deal really.. Hopefully he doesn't become burnt out before his 3 years are up.. Now please get clarky and elias re upped
thefiestygoat
I think this is a fair deal to both sides, I'm happy about it. I don't think that 3rd year is going to be that big of a problem.
Niaure
It's the most happy day, talking about hockey, for a few months for me. I believed Zubes and Devils will not part ways, but was a little worried, because 1st of july is coming faster and faster. Besides of emotions, it's a fair deal for both sides. It;s not a ridiculous 5-6 mil contract like Rolston had, it's a normal cap hit for a very important piece of the squad. Zubes playing with heart and doing things that helps other players to get on the sheet. Not worried about 3rd year at all, because he will still be 37 at the end of that season and that's not a big age for such type of players. Now keep Elias Edited June 27, 2013 by Niaure
aylbert
A 3mm 3rd year isn't going to hurt us... I'm fine with it. That third year likely made him sign today rather than test the market.
njdevsftw
Glad to see Zubrus back. I agree the 3rd year probably made him sign it now instead of checking the market first, so I think we can live with that. I'd rather we overpay by $0.5M then lose him.
