Sounds like gulitti has heard some chatter to get gelinas back

  1. Devils will do something likely tomorrow (Tuesday at the latest) to clear a roster spot for Gelinas to come back.

  2. This is definitely a temporary thing with Gelinas.

  3. Devils had to make move today with Salvador back, but it's safe bet Gelinas will be back in time for Tuesday's game. Something else in works

My guess is it will be a waiver move, but that's not definite. Just my guess.

Relax everyone. We are in a good position. It is very early in the season and we have too many quality defensemen including 2 young studs... Oh my what a problem.

Lou won't screw this up. Let him go slow and make the right move. Time is in his side. We are one injury away from looking really smart about how we constructed our roster.

All of our D men including Harrold are worth something.. And that is very good.

Lou's trying to clear out a defenseman. He just didn't have enough time with Salvador coming back. Maybe it takes a week, maybe a month, but Gelinas will be back. No rush to force something in 24-48 hours.

A month?!  They don't have a month.  They have two wins in their first eleven games and finally got a spark last night, they need to not fvck around with this.

yeah things are a little more urgent with this team...we know this team has a better chance of winning with Gelly in the lineup......so we have to find a way to get him in ASAP

what is volch possibly worth, or more accurately who needs a PK specialist with a horribly aging skill set.  we need Zids shot and offensive presence, sal is the C, so its fayne or harrold   cant see getting much for harrold   and Id hate to see fayne go   we are going to wind up cutting harrold

can we buyout BOTH sal 1.5mil and a-train 1.1 mil  next year and be under the cap?

We still have an amnesty buy out, so yes, but there's absolutely no way that both Sal and Volch get bought out.

Volchenkov, with his deal, is nigh impossible to move.

Devils still have one of their compliance buyouts (used the other on Hedberg). Even so, they'd probably be comfortably under the cap. As it is, they're 2-ish million under and the cap is expected to go right back up, so they'll be fine.

Gelinas will be back.  I guarantee it.  No need to get worked up about it.  He'll play against Tampa I'm sure.

So does Tom Gulitti

For those expecting a significant trade, think about it this way: if you were another team, who would you want on your team from the Devils? Teams aren't gonna just take garbage, especially now that the cap has gone down. If the Devils want a decent return, I don't know who else they can trade besides Greene. Harrold, Larsson, Fayne won't bring back anything close in value. I also don't see them trading Salvador or Zid, due to one being captain and the other being NJ's best offensive defenseman by far.

I'm not saying we should trade Greene, since I think he's the best they've got at the moment, but I would expect either another Tallinder-like trade or else sending Harrold through waivers rather than anything coming our way.

I think they will go with 8 D again until they get things sorted out.  Harrold can play forward and defense, and if Boucher or Whitney continues to play well in Albany, they have their Tedenby replacement in the system.  That's if Tedenby is claimed on waivers, which I don't think he would be.

Glad to hear Gelinas will be back. I really like him as a player and he brings a skill set the Devils are lacking.

But people here need to stop treating him like the second coming of Bobby Orr. He played two good games, but made a few mistakes that almost led to odd-man rushes, and were he Larsson, Volchenkov, or Harrold people would be much quicker to emphasize his mistakes then his two points.

He is one of several big, mobile, skilled defencemen the Devils have in the system right now which is awesome. The team should be doing what they think is best for his development, which again I agree is to play up here and gain experience and hopefully confidence.

But Gelinas will not be the difference between us competing and missing the playoffs this year in my opinion. If the team doesn't play the system, regardless of how many shots from the point he gets off we will still lose.

I don't know. After watching the Devils almost get eliminated single handedly in the first round of 2012's playoffs by Jason Garrison's slapshot, I have new respect for the value of a big shooting defenseman. Do the Devils still need to play their system well? Absolutely! Obviously! But a guy with Gelinas' talents can absolutely have a profound effect on their overall playoff chances just simply by adding a dimension to their blueline that opposing teams have never really had to respect before. The Devils prior big shooters from the blue line were Kurtis Foster and Sheldon Souray (yes, I had to go back that far). We don't really have a history of having a guy like that and it'd be great to see if we can develop one in Gelinas. Zidlicky has a good shot, but it's not one that'll make people duck and cover from and besides, I doubt highly we see him still in the lineup in a year or two.

it wasn't "single handedly" almist won by Garrison. That was an extremely close series and I would credit Weiss and other forwards for it as well.

I'll still agree with you though that Gelinas adds a much needed dimension

Whenever Garrison was out there the whole Devils team was in disarray trying to figure out how to deal with his shot and the fact that Brodeur seemingly had no real answer for it. If he hadn't gotten injured I don't know that we win that series.

Honestly, this isn't a bad problem to have. It seems the team and the system have been quite good at producing solid but not spectacular defensemen. I think the key is a balancing act till there is enough demand in the market that LL can get a return. I would hate to see us dump assets (even if only slightly valuable) for nothing.

Devils' Pete DeBoer says don't put Eric Gelinas in Hall of Fame yet

Well of course... I'd be curious to know his opinion on Gionta's chances though
