Season 9 is great, the WTC episode may be the best episode of all time. The bus episode, the one with homer as the sanitation director, all good. The Simpsons went downhill when they changed the opening sequence. I can say I'm a dork and have every DVD box set they've released, there's no difference between season 8 and 9. Its all pretty much the same through like season 14 or 15. Seasons 1 through about 4 or 5 are kinda old bad drawings but they're still good.

As far as political agendas jesus its a cartoon. I would hope no one has their views changed by Lisa Simpson or any cartoon characters. I THINK YOGI BEAR WAS A LIBERAL SOCIALIST WHO LIVED OFF THE SYSTEM.

This is a classic example of a discussion that goes nowhere, but to me there is a difference between Seasons 8-11.  It just gets a little worse every year.  8 is pretty good but has a few clunkers.  9 is okay, more clunkers.  11 was where I gave up on the show.  Everything has to end except stuff that continues to make a profit.

A lot of people who are saying the Simpsons are overrated are usually too young to remember when the Simpsons was THE show and was funny as hell.  Season 1 is pretty decent, seasons 2-7 are brilliant, season 8 is pretty good and then 9 was just OK and then after that it started to suck.  Now I find maybe in a 20-episode season about 2-3 episodes to be funny.

Yeah, I don't think people get just how good that show was for almost a decade, especially for when it was on. It was breaking a lot of ground and considered very controversial. If anything is overrated, it's the formulaic sitcoms with laugh tracks. Unnatural setup, lame punchline, laugh track, commercial, repeat.

You're right with the fact that the discussion can go nowhere from here.

I could say the same thing with family guy after like season 5. Seasons 1-3 were the best, before they go cancelled. Now I don't even watch the show.

South park is like the Simpsons in the fact that the first few seasons are terrible animation but its nostalgic. Now though its few and far between that I find an episode that I would watch again

There's a reason they call everything past season 9 "the zombie Simpsons". It's not the show you love anymore and for some reason it just won't die. It's heartbreaking to watch the abomination that they call the Simpsons now.

Not sure who "they" are, but I've never heard that before in my life

Yes I'm sure it was the politics and not the decreased emphasis on characterization and story + inferior joke writing that sunk the later seasons.

all I was getting at was that's what turned me off to the show.

I was bored with Family Guy after it came back, and I also agree with those who never got into How I Met Your Mother.

is this what getting older feels like...?

Simpsons aren't as terrible now as everyone makes them out to be.  They are better on he second viewing (i think the if it set to the high standard the early simpons created. .  Usually one or 2 good lines an episode(unlike episode like lisa he vegetarian which has 5 or 6 lines which are still quotable to this day) .  Tough to stay original after so many seasons(Lego episode was good).  Not as good as they once were I agree, but I do still dvr every episode.

Family guy started out strong, but the last couple of seasons have had a few too many shows that have annoyed me.  Someone mentioned the Lisa centric episodes getting under their skin.  Brian does the same to me at times.  Far more good than bad, but it has lost a step.

South park has evolved and because it is so fresh and timely, it can be better then both of the others.  but again, there are a couple episodes a year that I just won't re-watch because they are just bad.  Very few, but when they are bad, they just really suck.

Archer is the best animated show on tv now.  Start from the beginning, because the jokes and character development build on each other.

I would recommend Venture brothers as well.  Not as good as Archer, but it has it's moments.

From an old bastard that watches way too many cartoons.  I do remember the Tracy Ullman show where they Simpsons were just a little more than bumps (I guess that is hat you would call them).
