I'm just excited because it's my first authentic jersey, plus he's one of my favorite players on the team. (he became the 'underdog' favorite for me in 2000 when we played Detroit and he got that nasty cut on the face...grr don't get me started...anyways, I started to love him even more when I got to eat dinner with him at the DFC Dinner in 2000-01)

that's right, RD, you did get to sit next to him, didn't you?

I don't recall all the details though, I remember there was a thread about it in the DFC forum, did you get pics?

#4 Don't pick on Dew, because she is more on target than you want to believe. If he truly wanted to win a cup all those years, he would have left when he turned 31.

Like Kariya? (Well actually Kariya couldn't even wait that long :P ) Oh wait he doesn't want to win, that's just a convenient excuse to be with Teemu

Frankly I don't care if a guy wants to get a ring somewhere else at the end of his career so long as he contributes his fair share and is not just there to be carried to a ring. (like say what Karl Malone is trying to do with the Lakers now...or Clemens in 2000 when he really didn't contribute all that much to get his ring)

actually, yeah, like Kariya, got a taste, realized the Duckies didn't have what it took and moved on... Bourque could have left after 1990, but he CHOSE to stay and LOSE every freaking year :saddevil:

F*CK LOYALTY

Avs fan, eh? (PatrickRoy33)

As a Devils fan, I'd have to disagree. We have many loyal players that have benefitted in the long run. Stevens, Daneyko, Brodeur, Brylin - all franchise players with their name on the Cup THREE TIMES.

F loyalty? What are you smoking? Just watch one of your favorite players backstab the Avs organization - you won't say that ever again.

We watched Holik stab us in the back. We also saw him eliminated from the playoffs by our hands and, right after the Devils winning the Cup, say, "This was the most painful off-season I have ever been through."

F loyalty? It's good you're not a Devils fan. We believe in loyalty here. We got a squad of loyal players. Do you? I'm not so sure. Sakic and Forsberg, sure, but who knows?

The reason why the Devils have three Cups is because of loyalty and hard work... I hope the Avs players stab their organization in the back just so you can choke on your own words while your team fails.

F loyalty? You're a joke of a hockey fan. Go watch baseball.

How old is "the SBT" it seems like something very childish to do... like a high school thing.. hehe example:

Suzie: O Lehla you are so beautiful! And you are my bestest friend in like the whole wide world!!!!!

Lehla: Woo thanks... am I like cooler than Tina-Ann?

Suzie: O def! She's a dirty wh0re and I would like never be friends with her! Ew

(five minutes later)

Suzie: Hi Tinaaaaaaaa, you're so great, you're like my best friend!

TA: I thought Lehla was your best friend, you like were talking to her before!

Suzie: O no, she was talking all this $hit about you before and talking about how you like 'get around' ya kno, but I was like "That is so not cool" and she had like no response to that! Totally!

umm... kinda like that :D

Anyways... reading the thread again....

"I want to play the rest of my career in New Jersey." - Pascal Rheaume

"I want to stay in New Jersey." - Jeff Friesen

"I never thought of playing anywhere else but New Jersey." - Ken Daneyko

Anybody else have any gems from the squad?

OK that's it, I swore I wouldn't get started on the whole Bourque thing, but now I have had my fill:

#1, you are an Avs fan,  correct? Then please do NOT speak for us Bruins fans.  I have lived and breathed the Bruins since my youth, and have lived here all my life. Ray made the decision to stay here out of loyalty... to his family. He did not want to move them, plus Beantown is 5 1/2 hours away from his hometown in Quebec.

I've NEVER once spoken for Bruins fans....

#2, Ray told Harry Sinden to F off and hung up on him because he DID NOT want to go to Colorado. He wanted to go to Philly. End of story. That is fact.

Never disputed that, but there was no way he was trading Ray to a confrence rival.

#3, The B's NEVER broke their Loyalty to Ray.  Ray knew after the 1990 finals they weren't ever going to win. Please, they traded Oates to shut him up after he commented on how the organization would never win anything.  And this is the only time I will ever defend that bulbous nosed arse: Harry did not want to trade Ray, but when Ray asked for the trade, he obliged and also obliged Ray's wish to go to a SC contender. There were better offers to be had than what was offered at the time (only Rolston actually performed to potential, Pahlsson was traded to the Ducks for Nazarov, who was then turned into a 4th rounder)  So essentially, Harry granted Ray's wish for Rolston, who at the time wasn't exactly the best return he could have gotten.

The B's broke their loyalty to Ray, when he was re-signed, and he agreed to a contract that would keep him with the B's, PAST his eligibility for free agency, on Harrys word that they'd make a drive for the Cup. Ray asked for the trade because the Bruins have gone nowhere, and he saw they had no dedication to winning.

#4 Don't pick on Dew, because she is more on target than you want to believe. If he truly wanted to win a cup all those years, he would have left when he turned 31.  She is right on target with how he was endeared by the Bruins and us fans.  He DID turn his back on us, but he now gets to live with an emptiness that is his victory.... As Adam Oates said best: He may have a SC ring, but every time he looks at it, it will have the wrong team's name on it.

As I mentioned before he was UNDER CONTRACT to the Bruins during that time period. I know exactly how the Bruins fans must feel....but don't think for a SECOND, that he wouldn't do it again. He didn't turn his back on you the fans, he turned it on the Bruins who didn't live up to their promise. I'm sure he isn't having a hard time coping with his win with the Avalanche....when he looks at that ring, he'll remember that an entire team kept a promise to him in one season, that an entire franchise couldn't even give him a sniff of in the recent 10 years of his career in Boston....

#5 Your organization should be ashamed that they retired #77 before #19, #33 #21. To retire a players number after 1 year and 1 month of service is an outrage.

It was one of the rarest circumstances in NHL history....and should be remembered that way....

And also, as much as I still truly love Ray for all he has done for the community here and for his 21 years as a Bruin, the Devils WERE the better team that year, and deserved to win.

That I have to disagree with you on, just like the Devils beat the Ducks this past season, thats the same way it was for the Avalanche, Roy showed up for those last 2 games, and made a statement....the best team MIGHT not have won, thats debatable, but the most dominant money player showed up when the chips were down and the house was on the line....

ESPN had a love affair with the Avs that year, from Bourque right on to the Drury/Travis Roy fiasco. Yes, that's right, I said fiasco, because for anyone who was truly paying attention to it all, the team captain that fateful evening that Travis broke his neck was none other than current Devil Jay Pandolfo, who held his team together and carried Travis' practice jersey on to the ice EVERY SINGLE DAY.  That takes more character, compassion and leadership than Drury could ever muster.

I can't disagree there, see my other posts about uselESPN, they have no business doing hockey....

As do the Avalanche, Roy, Sakic, Foote, Forsberg etc. But only 2 times....so far.

F loyalty?  What are you smoking?  Just watch one of your favorite players backstab the Avs organization - you won't say that ever again.

I expect it, but I know the loyalty to the Avalanche is based on winning, and thats what entices the players to want to play there, nothing more....

We watched Holik stab us in the back.  We also saw him eliminated from the playoffs by our hands and, right after the Devils winning the Cup, say, "This was the most painful off-season I have ever been through."

When did the Rangers make it to the playoffs? or did you mean the playoff race? Some players get greedy and learn the hard way....

F loyalty?  It's good you're not a Devils fan.  We believe in loyalty here.  We got a squad of loyal players.  Do you?  I'm not so sure.  Sakic and Forsberg, sure, but who knows?

I appreciate the Devils, as they're the only team that can compete with the West, and yes, what Lou has done should be the MODEL all teams are made after....but yes, the Avalanche have loyalty....the Avalanche fans felt the same way about de Vries leaving as you Devils fans felt about Holik, but like Holik, he'll learn the hard way....and when it comes down to it, it's better to rid your team of the unloyal money seekers and keep the ones who play with heart.

The reason why the Devils have three Cups is because of loyalty and hard work... I hope the Avs players stab their organization in the back just so you can choke on your own words while your team fails.

The Avalanche have 9 division titles, and 2 Cups, you'd like the Avalanche to choke, but take a look at history, they've taken care of their players and their fans....btw, don't hold your breath on someone stabbing the Avs in the back....like I said, if it happens, it happens, it's better team without'em then....

F loyalty?  You're a joke of a hockey fan.  Go watch baseball.

Your argument was good to respond to, right up until you slipped on that Pamper and made that comment....stop being bitter because of some other teams success....

For the most part I think whoever WINS the cup deserves to win it. The Avs winning didn't bother me so much as the Devils losing. If they Avs win this year I'll think it's lame. Buying a team is lame. A bought team is not worth rooting for in my book...not that there's anything wrong with anyone else doing so... I'd think it was cool if teh Devils became ALL-STAR and won teh cup...but you can't get attached to mercenary players -- they're guns for hire...and that doesn't make for long term enjoyment -- then you love a sweater and a rink is all...that's sad.

I'm happy a great defenseman finally got his name on the cup -- but I also thought it was kind of pathetic -- blame Boston Blame Bourke -- it still doesn't change the fact that I pitied him hoisting it. And teh Avs retiring his number ... well it's in keeping with the whole buying a team line of thought --- nahhh - it's bullsh!t plain and simple that's a turd hangin from your rafters that even i can't polish my Avalanche fan friend...

 Yeah, right.

The Avalanche have a lower payroll than last year.

Did you feel that way when Detroit bought the '02 cup, or just now?

BTW, when did the Avalanche BUY a CUP???? Making trades and re-signing players for their market value isn't buying a Cup....

SAD???? You guys have a team that rarely sells out during the regular season and almost moved to Nashville a few years ago....

I've NEVER once spoken for Bruins fans....
Dew, backoff, don't speak on what you know nothing of....any disgruntled fan from another team thinks thats what happened, softens the blow from having to hear what a great team it was all the time....just because the Bruins are dedicated to losing doesn't mean Ray had to be, F*CK LOYALTY, especially when the Bruins broke their loyalty to Ray first....

sounded to me like you were.

Never disputed that, but there was no way he was trading Ray to a confrence rival.

That's BS, never stopped Harry from trading Wesley to one of our Biggest rivals, the Whalers, or Oates to Washington, Harry sent the players where he could get the best deal.

I don't think any team buys a championship. Every title team will have some core guys they built it around. Go ahead and look at the rosters of these teams. You usually have some drafted guys or even guys you got through compensation (Stevens) that turned your team into a powerhouse. Without Stevens, the Devils may never have won those Cups. Scott Stevens is the guy who each Cup was built around. Defense. But Stevens has to be considered a Devil first. He's been there a long time and he's done so much to make them a great franchise. This example can be made with the '94 Rangers and for most of the 90's, they dominated the regular season. But without Messier, they wouldn't have won their Cup and been as strong for that 6-7 year period.

You are sooo lucky I have a soft spot for the law!    I'm not sure what that means but it sounds good, don't it?

It means you are a good right winger.....and we were instant friends when we met!!

well, I always enjoy a healthy debate, but I'm really sick of having to set the Bourque Saga straight.

People who were Devs fans experienced the opposite of Bruins fans:

the Devs were once called a "mickey mouse" organization and were at one point a laughingstock. Now, they are one of the most competitive, fiscally responsible teams in the NHL, who have one 3 stanley cups in 9 years. They are a dynasty.

The Bruins, on the other hand, were a once great team, fueled by a long history and players like Orr, Bucyk, Espo, Shore...

Now, they are a mockery of an original Six team, more so than the Rangers, with poor drafts, inadequate player development, and even more dispicable FA signings (anyone seen Andrei "the Empty Tank" Kovalenko or Paul Coffey around lately?), including Jacobs ordering O'connell to outbid any team for the services of one Martin LaPointe, just to piss off Mike Illitch. (if you want the history on that, a few years ago, Illitch confronted Jacobs and told him he was a disgrace to the league, and a cheap SOB)

sounded to me like you were.

I said ANY disgruntled fan, never singled out B's fans.

That's BS, never stopped Harry from trading Wesley to one of our Biggest rivals, the Whalers, or Oates to Washington, Harry sent the players where he could get the best deal.

They're no where near the player or fan favorite Ray was....

You know how we feel? Really? Highly doubtful. And don't think that Ray doesn't feel empty about his ring, because he's said repeatedly to the media here that although he is happy he won, he would have RATHER DONE IT AS A BRUIN, and that is his only regret.

He might have RATHER done it as a BRUIN, but he still apprciates it all the more just having it....

Hmm, when was this that Harry said they'd make a drive for the cup.. Last time I heard those words out of Harry's mouth it was like 1979 when Ray started.  Ray knew, as did every player whose played here in the past 15 years, as did the fans, that the organization was NOT interested in winning a cup. Ray has repeatedly said that in 90 they were missing one key ingredient, and always were, and that the B's management was too damned cheap to get it.  Jacobs does not care about winning a cup, only selling hope, and the only reason he even slightly invested in this team back then was to convince the city to help fund the Fleet center.  So, no offense here, but you're talking out your arse on this one. Ray had many opportunities to leave, he chose to stay, and then tried to play the lack of dedication card.

It all happened when he signed Ray for 6 years at age 28 or 29 I believe it was....you don't have to tell me the Bruins management sucks, the whole NHL already has seen it....

No, it was a slap in the face to Bruins management, and a mockery to the NHL.

The Bruins slapped Ray in the face, you expected something less?

I will agree to disagree with you on this.

Of course you will, your a bitter disgruntled Devils fan....your team got beat that year, you have NO EXCUSES....PATRICK ROY let in 1 goal combined in games 6 and 7, he GAVE the Devils a chance to win it, but they choked in game 6 and didn't show up for game 7....
