Guest
http://www.twincities.com/ci_7584709?nclick_check=1 SHOOTER CHARLEY WALTERS : A little birdie says the Boston Red Sox have become the favorite in the Johan Santana trade sweepstakes. The Twins would receive four players for the Twins' two-time Cy Young Award winner, including center fielder Coco Crisp, 28. Others would be shortstop prospect Jed Lowry, 23; left-handed pitcher Jon Lester, 23; and right-handed pitcher Justin Masterson, 22. I guess hank is gonna hafta put cano on the block now..heheh
Devils731
Well I'm not an expert on those prospects but that doesn't seem unreasonable for the Red Sox to give up but I have to think the Twins wouldn't pull the trigger on the deal unless Lowry and Masterson are A-type prospects. nmadd
The New York Yankees may now be the frontrunners in the Johan Santana sweepstakes.Following internal discussions among front-office executives, the Yankees seem prepared to include young right-hander Phil Hughes in a three-player package for the Twins' ace. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...ex.html?eref=T1

Devils Pride 26
I believe that the Red Sox are just trying to jack up the price of Santana because the Yankees really cannot let the Red Sox get him unless they truely think that they can beat Beckett and Santana head-to- head. thefiestygoat
If the Yankees trade Hughes, Melky, and someone like Kennedy, Horne, Jackson, or Tabata for Santana I am going to be pissed. Let the kids stay and develop. I hate how Hank Steinbrenner has come in and taken away control from Cashman, now they are just letting the Red Sox be their puppet master. Santana isn't going to bring a WS to NY, developing prospects and keeping the blue chippers like Hughes along with a cast of other prospects will. This is shaping up to be a horrible offseason. Nature's Minister
i don't particularly want santana although i wouldn't hate having him on the team it just seems like way too much for a guy with declining peripherals who lost a notch off his fastball towards the end of last season
Guest
Who are you calling a mofo ass wipe. How about your Raiders eh? Realy at the top of the league this year MOFO. nmadd
Back and forth, back and forth. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Boston Red Sox won't give the Minnesota Twins a deadline to accept their offer for left-handed ace Johan Santana, declining on Monday to match the ultimatum issued a day earlier by Yankees scion Hank Steinbrenner. njdevils783
This whole thing is going nowhere. The twins really dont want to give him up and the yankees and sox just seem to be in it to keep the other from getting him. Now there saying the Angels may be stepping into the bidding war. Seems like this thing is just going to go on and on and on and on and on. Now Yankees are saying their out but hello A-Rod is a Yankee and they were out of that to. LOTCB
That the yankees aren't the only orginization that buy$ alot of player$? Ye$. And people can stop waxing poetic about the Red $ox every 2 minutes.
Triumph
Sox rumored to have completed a deal. Twins are suckers, Yankees were offering a better package for sure.
Nature's Minister
If it's Ellsbury, Lowrie and Lester, the Yankees weren't offering a better package. I heard the deal was to the Angels for Weaver + one of their outfield prospects, though.
njdevils783
Aside from this... How about the Tigers picking up Cabrera and Dontrelle willis from the Marlins in 6 player deal. Just a year of blockbuster moves.
Nature's Minister
It's essentially six players for Cabrera since Willis has been having back problems and his motion is all fvcked up and he can't even pitch league average in the NL east now. Cabrera is really, really good though.

Devils731
I know this isn't about Santana but this seems to have become more about the winter meetings in general. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?...winter_meetings 8:12 p.m., from Steve Phillips
thefiestygoat
I am so happy the Yankees are keeping Hughes! Keeping Melky and Kennedy is just an added bonus, but I would have been crushed if they lost Hughes. Hopefully they stay away from trading the kids away this off season.
