That's the reaction most people are going to have, and I understand it. When you pile on and something like this happens, makes sense that people are going to pile on the pile-oner, especially someone who is not terribly likable, like Belichick. I did think "Why is Brady out there?" when it was 52-24, and if it was me, I wouldn't have gone out of my way to score again...I would've run it four times with Mallett under center (gone for it on 4th down even if it was 4th-and-long, just to turn it over) and called it a day.

Once a week in the normal blowout game I always say pretty loud.... "why is THAT guy still in the game??" ....the problem is players want to play, and most coaches don't wanna stop them, and playing till the end is the Darth Hoodie (and that dirtbag in Tampa's) way, I don't think you'll ever change it....letting Mallett throw a few live passes in a real game would not be the worst thing for the Pats to do though.....

The game was won at that point, don't really need to throw the ball with Mallett, Brady, anyone. I understood why Belichick did what he did, especially considering the opponent...Colts are a possible playoff matchup down the line, stomp on their necks when you have the chance and leave them full of doubt that they can win...and what happened to Gronk was a freak thing...how often do you see anyone getting hurt like that on an extra point attempt? I do think the message had already been sent at 52-24, so I don't know how hard I would've gone for that extra seven points. But like I said, Belichick's style of never letting up rubs some people the wrong way, so now they're going to have their fun at his expense...so be it

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime?

Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.

It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.

I agree with you, but I can validate it a TINY bit more if you're giving Mallett snaps and a chance to see a live NFL defense in action, that kinda stuff is key if he ever HAD to go in there when it mattered
...the odds are the same getting hurt in garbage time as they are driving down the field to tie the game....fair enough...

Guess I better get back to start picking them again

It's not a brutal schedule ahead either.....now watch them sh!t the bed with Arizona so I lose my 6-10 dinner bet I made (bet a friend's father when the Cards were 4-2 that they were trash and will be 6-10 or 5-11 at season's end....it's looking like a good bet, but they got St Louis and the Jets next....once I get past that its smooth sailing to loss-ville!!!!)

Thu 11/22 New England Patriots New England 8:20 pm
Sun 12/2 Arizona Cardinals Arizona 1:00 pm
Sun 12/9 Jacksonville Jaguars at Jacksonville 1:00 pm
Mon 12/17 Tennessee Titans at Tennessee 8:30 pm
Sun 12/23 San Diego Chargers San Diego 8:20 pm
Sun 12/30 Buffalo Bills at Buffalo 1:00 pm

Jets' sched isn't bad, and things definitely get a little more interesting if they beat NE. But they are 4-6...their record isn't much better than the teams that they're facing. I don't know how much I can expect out of them. I'm guessing they probably finish 8-8. 5-1 down the stretch (to get them to 9-7) seems like a tall order.

Our secondary is an abortion performed in the middle of a dumpster fire. Nolan Carrol- get the fvck off my lawn you dipsh!t. You suck. A CB or a WR- take the best player at one of those positions with the 1st. No TE (Fasano is a good complimentary TE, I'd actually keep him in that role), no WR's, no o-line (they can't even handle a basic 4-man rush), no semblence of a running game... So this isn't surprising, because its what most people expected (myself included).

NFL secondaries are like MLB bullpens, the vast majority of them suck.

As discussed during the game last night: No doubt I am thankful for Tomlin and more so Haley making some really stupid offensive calls, aside from keeping Lefty in when clearly he could not throw. I like Dwyer A LOT, fortunately they took him out when they needed him most.

Bottomline: I'll take it.

Yeah my guess is 7-9, 8-8 with them too....they either get everything going and blow a team out or just look awful and lose....it's a talent issue with the Jets plain and simple....

8-8 for the Jets

they'll lose to NE this week...beat the Cards/Jags/Titans to get to 7-7. Lose to SD to break everyone's hearts, beat Buffalo in a meaningless game.

That said, if 8-8 is rock bottom in the rex ryan era, I can deal with that. Better than rock bottom under kotite/carroll/coslett/walton/edwards

I just looked up the passer numbers from 2002:

Exactly one QB had a passer rating better than 100. His name was Chad Pennington.

Exactly four QBs passed for over 4000 yards.

Tom Brady led the NFL in TD passes with a whopping 28 of them. Drew Brees has 28 TD passes this season already.

Said it before but I'll say it again...balance needs to be restored to this game. Though the scores aren't AFL and CFL bloated (not yet), it's slanted too much towards the offense right now. Defenses need to be allowed to defend again.

I said at the beginning of the year that if the Jets went 2-2 or even 1-3 vs Pittsburgh, Houston, San Fran and NE, they would make the playoffs. They had/have a total of 6 really tough games: NE x2, Houston, Pittsburgh, San Fran and Seattle (on the road) and are probably gonna go 0-6 in those. They dont deserve to make it based on that alone

yes agreed. The PI is getting ridiculous...reminds me of 1994 when the NFL had a massive down year in scoring the prior season (I swear the Jets won a game 3-0 and there were plenty of 9-6, 10-3 type games) so they amped up PI rules and all of a sudden QB's started hitting 4,000 yards again)

The corner-backs need to be allowed to truly defend...an errant hand that grazes the QB's helmet on a follow through shouldn't be roughing the passer. Spears to the head on defenseless receivers should remain penalties, but clean shoulder hits should be legal. Those are 15's that are tacked on all the time to keep drives alive.

Also players are faster, but they also wear practically no equipment. A receiver nowadays is running around out there in a small pair of shoulder pads and THAT'S IT. Nothing on the thighs, shins, no cups...and we wonder why there are so many injuries.

Why do you think horse collar tackles have become such an epidemic...because the jerseys are too tight. Back before everyone wore skin tight unitards, you could grab a piece of a jersey to slow a guy down...now they have very little to grab on to...so you have guys getting pulled down by the collar, or just flat out getting speared in the head. It's tough to wrap up a guy...so they just try and knock him out

Like I said weeks ago, Kapernick is an absolute stud who should be starting while Smith was holding the team back. And tonight the Smith era is probably over. Just goes to show why QBs will do anything to hide an injury or concussion. Smith probably knew his starting job would be done if he ever missed a game.

"The Stanley Cup has fallen from the Stars. The new millennium has its first Stanley Cup Champion, and it's the New Jersey Devils." Mike Miller calling the Devils winning the Stanley Cup.

"It goes to the captain and then there are handoffs during a skate around the ice" Mike Emrick as Scott Stevens is being presented the Stanley Cup.

The 49ers were 6-2-1 with Smith this season, and he had had only one game that could really be considered dreadful (against the Giants). I know he'll never be a fan favorite out there in SF because it took so long for him to get his game going, and even now he's not a guy who's going to put up monster numbers, but the 49ers were 19-5-1 in the regular since the beginning of last season, going into last night's game...it's not like Smith's presence was killing his team.

Kaepernick had a terrific game yesterday, but I don't think Smith loses his job based on one game, especially when he wasn't really slumping before he got hurt.

EDIT: Apparently Harbaugh has said that he plans to go with the "hot hand"...not hard to read between the lines, with the game Kaepernick just had...tough break for Smith, but it's not like there aren't teams that could use a QB...even if he loses his job in SF permanently, he's done enough that he'll get a shot somewhere else.

I'm not gonna look too much into that game from a 49ers end....the Bears offense (mostly that O-Line) was so PATHETIC it looked like the Niner D got bored and was just throwing O-Line players at Campbell just to mess with him.....when your offense is THAT bad and your D is on the field all night long....they're gonna run dead and the Niners were just eventually going to impose their will on them, especially with their style of play....they go to New Orleans this week....not the 86 Bears, but he's gonna have to keep up score for score with the Saints....if he does THAT, then we can start talking about him......

I have this weird vested interest in Smith in that I thought he would be really good coming out of college and thought he would be better than Rodgers. It might also have something to do with the Phins passing up on Rodgers that I don't like seeing Rodgers succeed, and by some strange transitive logic wanting Smith to play well.

It's unfortunate for Smith. He was immediately thrown into the fire and got the crap knocked out of him for several years with I forget how many head coaches and offensive coordinators. If he ultimately gets cut by the Niners, he's either going to be a full-time back up or start again with a crappy team that doesn't have a QB (KC maybe?).

But yeah, I think Smith is gone. Harbaugh never thought much of him coming in. That's why they drafted Kaepernick in the first place.

Hello fellow American. This you should vote me. I leave power. Good. Thank you, thank you. If you vote me, I'm hot. What? Taxes, they'll be lower... son. The Democratic vote is the right thing to do Philadelphia, so do.

I'd take Alex Smith on the Jets in a heartbeat. If we re-establish that running game/D style team we had in 09/10 then Alex Smith will be the perfect mistake free caretaker Qb that we need.

I hadn't thought about the Jets, which would be a good idea for both sides.

Smith also has above-average mobility, which you can't say about Sanchez.
