Late-season trends

Since the lockout, four of the six Stanley Cup winners had some kind of late-season cold streak followed by a hot streak.

2006-07 Ducks: Went 2-3-1 before finishing 4-0-2

2007-08 Red Wings: Went 1-8-2 before finishing 12-3-1

2009-10 Blackhawks: Went 2-5-2 before finishing 6-0-1

2010-11 Bruins: Went 1-3-3 before finishing 7-3-1

The 2011-12 Devils had a 2-4-1 spell before rattling off this 3-0-0 run. If they can keep it up, their final late-season record will resemble that of several recent Cup winners.

Of course, this is all a bunch of sound and fury, likely signifying nothing. This idiot still thinks it's potentially pretty cool nonetheless.

Not a jinx, but seems more like a coincidence than anything else. I bet there are a number of teams that fit that category right now.

I mean usually a hot streak follows some sort of mediocre streak anyway. The Bruins last year barely got out of the first round, so it was't like any hot streak immediately carried over into the playoffs. The 2006 Devils won 15 in a row before getting squashed by a better team in the 2nd round.

You could probably say the same thing about the Rangers this season and a lot of other teams that didn't win the cup in those years.
