Devils/Prudential Center Making 'Huge' Announcement Tomorrow a

trailblazer

Recommended Posts

There are going to be very few announcements that wouldn't be leaked by the media if it involved something like an All-Star game or what not. If it is sponsorship related, that's big for the franchise. To be able to spend money as the cap goes up, they need some big partnerships. And, they'll have to hype it as much as possible for that sponsor.

I'm sure everyone will be annoyed, though.

Yup.

Can't wait to see the reaction to their nonsensical announcement that most fans will not give 2 sh!ts about

These 'major' announcements always disappoint. My first reaction was that the Sixers would play a preseason game in Newark. If its not that, its something along the lines of both teams acquiring a new food vendor or something woefully underwhelming.

Even the Sixers playing a preseason game in Newark would be a flop of an announcement

More money is definitely fantastic, with the cap going up and us probably having to pick in the market in the next few years its great news.

Yup! It may not be the sexy announcement people want, but a major sponsorship deal is great for the franchise. Those are the types of deals that keep organizations stable.

..truth-be-told, we're probably playing in Ohio by now, if it wasn't for that MSG-TV deal.

I'd rather it be finally unveiling Stadium Series jerseys, but we're probably not getting anything special for it since we're the only one who hasn't unveiled anything by now.

Hearing rumors they want to find some way of putting a casino in the arena, which I think is still illegal and Atlantic City might have a problem with that. But if they did, great, more people who buy a ticket to get in, but end up not paying attention to the game. I always wondered why people bother with the Goal Bar, you gotta buy a ticket to get in, you can't bring your beer you buy there to your seats (it has to be consumed within the Goal Bar area by law) and so you go all the way to the arena just to end up watching the game on TV like you would for cheaper at a bar or at home. Kind of silly

Maybe we are unveiling the jerseys tomorrow, and there is a big PARTY POKER patch on the shoulders!

This.. Not sure why all the bashing like we've been robbed of something.. I'm very excited to see a big, new sponsorship bringing money to the team.. Hell, I go to so many games that I wouldn't even mind some new signage around the arena (like "PartyPoker Fire Lounge" or something, I know it sounds stupid lol)

And it's cool to see new ownership making splashes to get the team in more headlines that aren't about financial woes or publicized legal battles over money.. I don't know if other people are sensing it too but our fanbase is like 3 times more whiny than it was in previous years, even including 2010 - 2011

Don't bet on a SS jersey.

I was actually thinking the casino idea earlier too.  Current fan zone can be slots and Fire Lounge can be tables.  Boom.

Thanks for the insight DJ Eco! I always see Bwin when I watch European matches (especially MUFC) but never knew about the PartyPoker connection.

It will be interesting to see how Harris handles Charlton Athletic. Currently close to the relegation zone in the Championship (1 division below the Premier League) but it wasn't too long ago they were in the top flight (2006-07). Talk about potentially owning 3 teams in 3 of the biggest leagues.

Well let's not get ahead of ourselves haha.. I was just guessing and my brother was doing his best at putting all the pieces together with what I think made a whole lot of sense. We'll see tomorrow!

For the record, the law only governs liquor drinks, not beer. I've gotten beer there before and brought it to my seats. But if I got a gin-tonic, I had to finish it there. For some people it's a good idea. Casual fans who aren't emotionally invested in the game have a good time there and the drinks cost as much as a New York City nightclub, so it's a good enough revenue source I wouldn't want them to get rid of.

From an HFBoards poster:

New Jersey recently legalized online poker. PartyPoker is the largest publicly traded online gambling company in the world. They're also partnered with MGM Resorts International, who co-owns the Borgata in Atlantic City.

Will be interesting to see how big of a deal this turns out to be.

They seem to be hyping it so much that I'm almost curious if it will be one of those "New Jersey Devils presented by PartyPoker" kind of massive sponsorships we've seen with the Rangers and Red Wings. And those tend to be very lucrative sponsorships so let's see, but if true, it's fantastic for the Devils and Prudential Center. You figure the PruCenter is consistently top 5 busiest in the USA and I believe reached top 10 in the world this past year, so it's definitely a strong brand to partner with. Being that the Devils are tied to the arena as one entity, it would be a huge deal for the franchise.

But I get it, this is the season of bashing the franchise so who gives a crap if the announcement isn't that we're getting our goal song back.

Does this also mean more annoying online gambling commercials on MSG during Devils games?

Yeah the only thing worse than more of those commercials is if geico were to buy a bigger sponsorship and id have to see more of those awful awful commercials. Id rather hang myself from the rafters than sit through more of those cornball ads.

one of my friends who lives in philly said it may have to do with a new tv deal where they may create a new network that airs solely Sixers and Devils games. Apparently there is a conflict with Comcast with them playing Sixers and Flyers games

It might be similar to the YES network as they only air Nets and Yankees games
