Devils acquire Kyle Palmieri

I'd disagree with that because we could end up damaging his development. I personally think we're going to suck either way next season and Zacha just became one of our best assets. We have to make sure he's brought up properly.

Given Shero's comments on Jacob Josefson, I think I agree with you. We could:

a) give 24 year old Josefson a legitimate shot to prove he's a Top 6 center in the NHL, or

b) try to get 18 year old Zacha on the team immediately;

NOT both. It'll pay more dividends in the long-run to give Josefson an opportunity and hope he takes it. Zacha will have his chance, and by all accounts it'll probably come sooner in his career than Josefson's. We'll see how it shakes out.

so have we heard about the guy? lol no quotes or wtv about his thought on been traded here and all.

Of course we can only expect to hear good things like "its a great organization and all the bla bla" but i wonder what he's really thinking going from a powerhouse to.... a doghouse

I've felt that we need one 30-40 guy and one guy like Palmieri to get us back to the playoffs.

Halfway there.

there was 15 30 goal scorers  ( and only 3 over 40!!) in the entre league last year, its going to take a ransom to get 1 of them!!

I'd be happy w/ JVR and his 27 to go along w/ Palmieri & Camms!

I should probably adjust my expectations, just a 30 guy then.

It depends on how he's looking at things.  On the plus side, he has a chance to play a much bigger role here than he did in Anaheim.  He gets to play close to home and be around his family.  While it might suck to go from a young contender to a team in the midst of a rebuild, it is an opportunity for him to further his career and, possibly, increase the value of his next contract.

It doesn't necessarily have to be negative. He may be very happy to be back near his home with a team that has the cap space to pay him. It all depends on his attitude

He'll absolutely get more ice time. He'll be on one of the first 2 lines, that's for sure IMO. Also, another thing I like about the trade is that after next season, he is RFA, which means he isn't just a one year player, he will help us for years to come.

finally some quotes from the man himself,

“I couldn't be more excited,” said Palmieri, who flew back to the U.S. Tuesday night. “Obviously, being on vacation and being away from hockey for a bit, it was kind of a bit of a shock at first and then all the sudden I get back and everything has kind of started to sink in. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it. It's a big change for me going from a six-hour flight away from everybody I know (from Anaheim to New Jersey) to right in the center of it, but I couldn't be more excited.

“I grew up no more than 20 minutes from the rink and I played with the Devils' youth program (at South Mountain Arena in West Orange), so when the Devils used to have their practices right there, I grew up watching their practices. It's something I'm incredibly excited about and I can't wait to get the season started.”

More Palmeri quotes...

“Once I turned pro and realized that I was at the same level as the Rangers and the Devils that I grew up watching and idolizing, I kind of turned my allegiances to the team I was playing for,” Palmieri said. “So, I'm excited to put on the Devils' uniform and do my best to beat the Rangers.”

Palmieri, 24, will face the Blueshirts for the first time as a Devil – in the regular season – on Sunday, Oct. 18 at Madison Square Garden. Having watched many Devils-Rangers games as a kid, he already has a good idea about the intensity of the rivalry.

“I'm excited for it,” Palmieri said. “I grew up watching the Devils-Rangers games, those are the ones I looked forward to the most and now I have the opportunity to play in some of them.”

Although he was a Rangers' fan, Palmieri often watched Devils' practices at South Mountain Arena in West Orange while he was playing for the Devils' youth team. He also often attended games at the Meadowlands.

“I probably went to more Devils' games than I did Rangers' games just because it was easier to get tickets and for me it was way easier to get to (the Meadowlands) than it was for me to get into the city,” Palmieri said. “So, I definitely grew up going to more Devils' games than I did Rangers' games.”

Sounds like he could have been one of those Rangers fans who go to Devils games and cheer for whoever the visiting team was. I'll forgive him. We were all young and stupid once.

Also looks like he'll be taking #21. The part about his youth jersey already being hung up at The Rock is pretty cool though.

When he played for the New Jersey Youth Devils, Palmieri wore No 49. His jersey already is on display in Prudential Center as part of a display honoring NHL players with New Jersey roots.

Palmieri didn't sound interested in wearing 49 with the Devils.

“I'm hoping for something a little different than that,” he said.

With the Ducks, he wore No. 21. Scott Gomez wore that number of the Devils last season and will not be re-signed as an unrestricted free agent, so it should be available for Palmieri.

“I like 21,” he said. “I wore it in the minors and when I signed my second deal in Anaheim they let me switch to it.”

On a completely different wavelength: if there's one group of people I feel relieved for, it's the Devils marketing team, PR, and ticket agents. Holy hell, I felt bad for them last year. Who would you rather be able to market moving forward as the faces of the New Jersey Devils: Jagr, Havlat, Zubrus, Clowe, Gomez, and Salvador; or Jersey-born Palmieri, Henrique, Greene, Schneider (one year in, now a fan favorite which he wasn't this time last year), and possibly Pavel Zacha?

Our marketing images, our posters, our calendars and website last year were just depressing; full of guys who will be out of the league in a year or two (or now). A youth movement is instantly more marketable, "hope" is more marketable than "decline", and a Jersey-native like Palmieri is a nice chip for them to have. It's not unlike the Clarkson effect in Toronto (although more toned down, of course), it's a nice story to have in the papers.

Zajac has been looking for that jam kind of guy with a knack for goal scoring ever since Parise left. Even though Palmieri isn't on ZP's level he should elevate Zajac/Cammalleri.

I'm almost as excited to see Palmieri with Zajac as I was to see Zajac and Jagr around this time last year

I'm definitely more excited haha... Jagr was fantastic for us but there was only so much I could tolerate him being the only capable forward on the ice at any given time and cycling with the puck for 90 seconds every shift. Palmieri will complement Zajac and Cammalleri much better, even Henrique or Josefson, honestly.
