Doc

I was on youtube last night watching some Devils clips (I felt I needed a solid cry), and I got to thinking what the best Doc Emrick calls/sayings are.

I don't get the Devils on TV so I usually only hear Doc on NBC, but my favorite saying is "OHH AND HIS STICK BETRAYS (or sometimes FAILS) HIM!"

On a Martin Broduer save: "OHHH HE DID THE FERRIS WHEEL!"... I love that one more because they used to play it when you walked into Continental.

I know this one is very old but this had to have been one of the greatest. It's the Dave Andreychuk goal against Philly in the 1998-99 season.

+1

Man is Doc at his best in that clip! I always wondered just how good he would be on the radio. I mean, you're watching the same play he is, but when he's announcing it you're adrenalin just flies. I'd probably get in an accident if I were listening to this on the radio! His love for this sport just comes through like no other. Gotta love Doc-- the best in the biz.

The spring semester of my super-senior year of college I was an intern at Comcast SportsNet in Philly. Any Flyers, Sixers or Phillies game that was going on live was on every TV in that newsroom. I always thought it was funny that everyone in that newsroom looked forward to the Flyers getting a national game just so they could hear Doc call the action. These are all people who not only know Jim Jackson, but would be hanging out with him in their free time. Friendships and professional relationships be damned, everyone recognizes what Doc brings to a game. I'd hear things like, "I don't even like hockey, but I love watching games that this guy calls," or "How does he do it? How does he make every little play sound so exciting?" being said all around the newsroom. Meanwhile, I'd be sitting in the corner updating the website like a good little intern, wearing my Devils hat and smiling from ear to ear.

We are a lucky bunch of fans.
