Wondering if the Devils are trying to get a handle on whether Bell makes Gelinas expendable. They seem to have a similar skill set (big shots that are useful on the powerplay) and substituting Bell for Gelinas would tend to alleviate the D log jam.

I thought about this a few years ago. I will wait to see how accurate Bell's shot is from the point. I would rather a 4th liner also used as a PP specialist than a defensmen.

It seems to be one of the better conferences. He plays in the newly formed NCHC which sort of replaced the now defunct CCHA (6 ex WCHA teams, 2 ex CCHA teams). It seems like a solid conference with St. Cloud St and North Dakota ranked in the top 10 nationally and with Nebraska Omaha just outside the top 20 for the USCHO.com poll. Both St. Cloud State and North Dakota are in the top 10 for the USA Today Poll. In terms of the Pairwise rankings 6 of the 8 NCHC teams are within the top 26. Miami is 40th in the Pairwise rankings and finished last in the NCHC standings and will have to take on St. Cloud State in the NCHC Quarterfinals so his season is likely to end this upcoming weekend.

 

Interesting stats: Miami is 10-11-2 when Coleman plays and just 2-8-1 without him. They are 6-4-1 when he scores and just 6-15-2 when he doesn't so it seems like he's a real difference maker for them.

 

To compare it to a weak conference, Pietila is in the restructured WCHA and they have just 3 teams in the top 25 for the Pairwise rankings.

Wow that's awesome then. Being on a weak team in a strong conference and putting up those numbers is nothing to sneeze at

Miami score 2.82 goals per game, Coleman scores .78 goals per game. I don't believe he has anything left to prove in college, yes I believe he signs.

Coleman's at 4+ shots a game which is nice but you just never know with this kind of career.

Yea he probably still projects as a 3rd liner if he makes it.

Thanks for posting! Interesting that they have Santini and Severson ranked so close together. If I was to change anything on that list I'd move Kinkaid down and not include Wedgewood. Maybe even find a way to slip Coleman in there.

 

It's no secret that Wedgewood and Clermont have both had disappointing pro careers and Kinkaid has slipped as of late. I just wrote this post on potential undrafted free agent goalies from the NCAA and CHL. Ideally I'd like to see the Devils cut Clermont loose and move Wedgewood back to the ECHL and let the new guy battle it out with Kinkaid for playing time next year. A couple of guys that I have my eye on from that post:

Now that the Devils have a first-round pick, I have seen a lot of mock drafts predict that the Devils select a player by the name of Anthony DeAngelo. Any of the prospect guys know if this is a valid possibility and/or who this guy is?

I hope not. DeAngelo is a Jersey kid but is a small (5'11, 167) offensive defenseman who struggles defensively and has been suspended twice this season for violating the OHL's harassment, abuse, and diversity policy. He was one of the last cuts from team USA for the WJC this year.

Even without the off the ice issues, the Devils have a ton of depth and quality at D and they don't need a kid that can't play in his own end.

As for goalie, even though Kinkaid hasn't had a great year in the AHL he's doing okay and I'd be okay with him on the big team next year.  If they need a guy at the deadline they can deal for a backup goaltender but other than that, I'd like to see Wedgewood in the A with another goalie prospect.  I don't know why a goalie prospect would sign here, though.

Maybe Jeter with the Yankees, but he is retiring at a fine age and not handicapping the organization (hard to handicap the Yankees, anyway). We'll never know what would happen if Jeter wanted to keep playing.

 

But if Brodeur keeps winning, he'll say all the same things he said during the 2012 playoff run. And like the deadline, I don't think many teams will be interested. He had some leverage in 2012, but that won't happen this time around. It's just up to Lou to say no thank you. I don't see that ever happening.

You never know.  I mean he did pretty much get rid of Pando, White and Madden pretty quickly when they were showing to be more and more useless.  I know they are not on the same level as Marty but Lou has done it before.

Lou can give Schneider 36 to 42 million reasons to play at least 50 games next year, and then 65-75 games a year for the next five or six years after that.  Believe it or not, most of these guys don't have the fragile egos that you just seem to assume they must have. 

 

And in fact, Lou can very easily determine whether Schneider signing an extension is being put in jeapordy, by simply offering him that amount of money once the season ends, if it hasn't happened already.  If an older Ryan Miller can bring the return that he did, I can only imagine what Lou would get for a much younger Schneider, where the team trading for Schneider will have a distinct advantage in re-signing him, because he'll be young enough where an 8 year deal would make sense.
