Xbox360 or PS3?

I am looking to get a game console. I am not a huge game person but have always enjoyed playing adventure type games. I got a hand-me-down PS2 a a couple of years ago and enjoy playing games like God of War and of course hockey games. I know they are phasing out PS2 games and also have some money right now to buy myself a treat for the holidays.

I have been reading the reviews of both Xbox360 and PS3 and am not sure which one would be better for me. Basically, I need some advice on what people think about these game consoles. Advice for a person who likes to play to unwind when stressed, on snowy days but will probably still wait until games hit the used game shops rather then spend the big bucks for ones when they first come out. Any advice?

I also have friends who have the Wii and although neat don't think it's the game console I would enjoy the most. Plus if friends have it I can always play with them so getting something else is probably a better idea.

thanks for the advice.

I was looking into both as well, some things that I considered were:

Did I care if it played high defintion DVDs? I don't really, but if I did I would get a PS3 for the built in blu-ray, I've heard the Xbox DVD playing can be sketchy.

Was I going to play online? I may, so the people I know who play online have a 360.

Which will have the larger library of games? Well the 360 has sold way more systems than the PS3 so more games are designed with the 360 in mind than any system. Also, a game designer can make money with a 360 exlusive game but may struggle with a PS3 exclusive game so I inferred most games will come out on both system but most likely designed for the 360 first and if the game is exclusive to a system in the future it will most likely be for the 360.

Is price an issue? The PS3 is more expensive out of the box but you get some nice extras. Also online gaming is free versus 50 bucks for the 360.

So those were the things I thought about when looking at both systems. I ended up deciding the 360 is the way to go for myself mostly due to the fact it's the more widely adopted system so I know games will be designed for it and my friends that play online have 360's and if I play online I'll want to play with them.

I got a Xbox360 and besides from the Red Ring of Death thing it's awesome. I'm addicted to Guitar Hero and NHL08. I also like Fight Night Round 3. Personally I wouldn't be caught dead with a Sony product. If you're into HD movies, the 360 has an attachment you can buy that plays HD-DVD's. If you add the prices up with the HD-DVD player it's just cheaper then the PS3.

I bought the Xbox 360 and I love it. I had the red rings issue too, but Microsoft sent me a brand new console within three weeks, and they take care of shipping costs...you don't pay a penny out of pocket. From what I've heard the new 360s don't have the same issues as the earlier ones...and the warranty has been extended to 3 years.

It really comes down to what games you want, although there aren't nearly as many PS3 or XBox 360 exclusives as there used to be...many titles have been released for both platforms, some of which have been better on the 360, others on the PS3. Both systems now handle 1080p if you have a 1080p set.

I agree. I mean, I went with the ps3 because of the price (yes, I believe the ps3 is cheaper in the long run) and also, once the game programmers realize the full potential of the ps3, the games will look even better.

My worry is since the PS3 is owned by less people developers won't take the time to figure out the full potential of the PS3 and just figure out the best way to port 360 designs over.
