  1. Among those only Palmieri really was any kind of a substantive move, the rest were cheap hold the fort guys at most, it's amazing he practically got back what he traded for Palms in a Stempniak deadline deal, but they really didn't spend as much as they could have for short-term solutions (which also would have prevented some of the kids playing too much, too soon) which was more my point - until he was on the hot seat going into what turned out to be his last season, Shero was obsessed with having $25-30 million under the cap every year and other than the Taylor Hall move - and even then we shed Larsson's contract so it was adding $2 million rather than $6 million - they never really 'weaponized' that cap space at all, it was a bit of an annoyance with me and clearly the owners are fine with spending up to the cap under Fitz and in Shero's final season. Compare that with Cohen/Stearns who are giving out a bunch of one-year deals while 'over' the cap at basically a 90% markup with the luxury tax. If things do go splat this year, they could maybe flip some guys like JD or Severino for more futures and maybe some of the ones we have debut later this season. Expectations kind of help the mindset...this year's Devils team is my least favorite ever this side of the 2007 Mets. While with the Mets it's clearly been advertised as a transition year since last deadline but it's not like they're totally peacing out of trying to win.
  2. Anyway, looks like Opening Day is (probably) going to be Friday afternoon, assuming tomorrow gets rained out. I will be at either one, might as well take some advantage of…being between jobs for the first time since college. Although I’m not excited about 2024 per se I am kinda looking forward to kicking off the Stearns era. Almost reminds me of (bleh) the early Ray Shero days lol - established GM coming in, personable but inexperienced new manager. Unlike Shero though, at least Stearns made SOME throw money at short term solution signings.
  3. Clearly someone isn’t telling the truth given the changing stories and the apparent lack of pressing charges against the ‘thief’ interpreter but unless something else comes up it likely isn’t anything more nefarious than either Ohtani covering the guy’s bets or (at worst) throwing him under the bus to cover his own…but even then I don’t know how much baseball can really do unless he bet on baseball. He might be in some legal jeopardy either way but as we’ve seen with other high profile individuals and cases you can pretty much postpone and delay as much as possible if you have the money to do so.
  4. These last three games are peak Devils…two of their better performances of the season surrounding another sh!t sandwich against a bad team in the middle. Even when we win a game like this it’s annoying cause the only constant is it doesn’t last
  5. It might not be true for the simple fact the Devils ARE a crap team too
  6. He obviously couldn't have fixed the goalie issue in-season since no other goalies got moved and Allen didn't waive his NTC earlier on, but the coaching thing was definitely fixable. He didn't even do much now, he went from the second-worst option to the worst option though maybe the new coach bump is belatedly kicking in now.
  7. Nice of the real Jack Hughes to finally return after being in witness protection since December, complete with curt on-ice interview lol
  8. Mets actually sign JD Martinez on a one year deal, at least the DH should be a massive upgrade over last year
  9. Apparently he’s had a good spring but hopefully the leash is very short
  10. Mike Williams also on a one-year deal. This is more the kind of stuff we should have been doing last offseason, but better late than never? At least if (when?) this season blows up they won't be committing much damage to the future cap, for the next GM.
  11. I actually understand that rationale from Allen but by the same token any one of us who watched and read the Devils news could have told him Allen would have been the immediate #2 here since they haven't wanted to play Schmid and Daws this year, and would have been #1 in short-order with a head coach looking to win games and save his job. He couldn't have known all that from the outside, but it's frustrating that maybe the season could have been saved just with that one move a couple months ago and it was more doable than we initially believed (at least I did think the Habs were holding out for too much).
  12. I wonder what the Yankee fan thinks seeing Snell sign a 2-62 deal with the Giants when he turned down quite a bit more from the Yankees a couple months ago, because Bora$ assumed he could get a 200+ million deal.
  13. I don’t remember it either, I barely remembered he was even on the Pens though lol
  14. When you don't punish or discipline him at all, nothing. Part of learning is holding guys accountable. Other than Holtz and Timo for one game, this staff (and really the whole organization) has only held one fvcking fourth liner who is going to be traded this offseason accountable. Real gutless.
  15. fvck them too, they've had a big hand in creating this mess themselves. Let them fix it - players, Fitz...all of them.
