I'm not here to prosthelytize social networking, if its not for you so be it, for others there is value and enjoyment and I'd hope the potential is much bigger than the fans helping push the interaction, be great to see something like the Penguins offer which surely was posted somewhere else here:

http://penguins.nhl.com/club/page.htm?bcid=29935

But if a good number of fans with smartphone devces at the game can't have quality internet access it makes some of this effort moot. At MSG where similarly AT&T 3G service is bad (seems to be the case in most arena/stadium environments) I can jump on wifi via Optimum Online wifi service they broadcast (have to be a Optimum customer though).

how about you remove the slogan "our fans suck" from under your nicaname on hfboards? You may think its funny but for what you are doing for the team it reflects poorly. perhaps that should make a nice tweet around the fanbase and to the devils themselves? "devils general thinks our fans suck".

I tend to agree with keeping 'our fans suck' as a slogan or whatever while being a liason between the team and it's fanbase doesn't seem to reflect very well on the team.

I have never been on hf boards or even plan on ever going on there so I have no agenda nor do I know who you are.

And I do agree that our fans suck but I'm not working (volenteering, whatever you want to call it) closely with the team.

And why this thread went off on a musical tangent is beyond me, it is so much personal preference. The girl behind me was singing along to every horrible poppy crap song last night. She enjoyed it, I'd rather have stuck dollar dogs in my ears then listen to those particular songs. To each there own.

Still never thought I would have seen Ramones described as cheesy though.

Okay, my turn!

I am a frequent poster on NJDevs, HFBoards, Twitter, Facebook and so on.

To the simple notion that our fans suck? Well, a majority of them do. The ones that start fights with other teams' fans, the ones that boo that Canadian national anthem when there are a bunch of Canadians on our team, the fans who don't show up to games and have no problem complaining about our attendance, the ones that chant Rangers Suck and You Suck when we are down four or five goals, the ones who start yelling at Dany Heatley and calling him a murderer, and most of all the fans who care more about the Rangers losing than the Devils winning.... There's plenty more I can come up with.

Yeah, there are plenty of fans that suck. That is something that myself and a lot of other people are currently trying to change. I didn't get involved int he Devils Generals thing because I simply don't have the time working a full time job and three writing jobs. The program is in GREAT hands with the people that are in charge of this program.

About CJ (Jaime),

I simply cannot believe that after all she does for our fanbase people have something negative about her. She is constantly the loudest fan in the arena, terrifically vocal about our team on the internet, and has now dedicated even more time and energy when she doesn't even live very close to Newark to get her butt down there and be involved in this program. To the people that are saying rude things to and about her... what have you done?

Right now, our fan base sucks. Our ticket prices suck. Our team and it's fan outreach sucks. The Devils Army Generals is something that the Devils are supporting that not many if any other teams would tolerate. NHL teams are corporations and the fact that they are now asking us for our input on how to make everything better is really unprecedented.

There are way too many people that complain and talk crap and then just sit back and don't do a damn thing about it.

I complain alot about things I don't like about this team. So what do I do? I contact an Army General or the Devils themselves. Actually, Jamie and I have to be at the arena in a half hour so I can speak with a rep about some things.

So if "our fans suck" is CJ's personal opinion... then so be it. And it's true! She has taken it upon herself to join the effort and bridge that gap between the fans and the team to try to make things better for everyone and to find out how we can get some new fans in the seats and in on the fun. I salute her and am glad to be able to call her a friend.

Also, to some specific posters that will know that this about them: Get a life. Masking your identity behind a stupid message board handle makes you look absolutely childish and stupid. You should go pick up a hobby if you don't want to act your age. Everyone here knows who I am, where I'm from, what I do for a living, exactly where I'll be before and after every game, and 5 or 6 ways to get in contact with me. So if you want to start acting like an adult, let us know and we'll have an adult conversation. Til then, try to grow up and actually be supportive of people like Jaime, Colin, Steve, and the others who are taking on a non-paying position just to help all of us out and to get our ideas heard by our favorite hockey team.

Very, very well said sir.

For the record, I'm the Steve he mentions at the end. And I'm insanely easy to get a hold of as well.

I for one love the Mission Control idea. I can't believe that so many "fans" on here are panning the idea of the Devils coming to us and sayign what can we do to improve your experience. You think the Yanks, Rangers, Flyers, or any other team would devote money to this...umm hell no!

To the Army Generals keep it up you guys are doing great work and I am following you on Twitter; I knida wish I went out for this I would love to be on the inside. Please keep it up and I will send you my thoughts. If you see Vanderbeek tell him I said bravo!!

This... incredibly this..... nail on the head.

What he's said - as fans you are entitled to nothing - you have to make it happen.

Like said fans here.

i know why you have that there. you feel this fanbase complains about everything and its your social commentary back in three words. asking you that question here is on more of a neutral ground. to be critical or question you the same way on hf would be a futile effort among you and your many friends there. you enjoy confrontation and verbal message board banter where you have the most leverage.

Oh look its unknown poster circumventing his suspension. Enjoy another two weeks. Do it again and its permanent.

Matching IPs?

Back to the topic at hand, Andrew (njdevil26) is absolutely right. I hope a lot of people really take what he's saying to heart and just appreciate that the Devils are doing something positive for the fans and that the Generals are doing what pretty much amounts to a thankless job for the love of a hockey team.

After the launch of Mission Control yesterday there were a TON of tweets and blogs about how every NHL team should follow after the Devils with an idea like this. I think it's great. Yes, I get a whole lot of the same tweets over and over but the idea is great.

Again, this is more for the "casual" fan IMO then those of us who are on Devils related websites, fanpages, twitter feeds, etc. The more "casual" fans we get involved the more "hardcore" fans we'll get at the Rock as they evolve from "casual" to "hardcore".

Edit: P.S. This whole discussion has gotten me back to wanting to post instead of just lurking like I have been every day for over a year. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. LOL

:o

I am non-plussed. Well... you know... as non-plussed as one can be on a message board.

There are few people I dont get along with... I am just -- wow.

 I think you can see why this is doomed to fail, by what's going on w/ the various forums in the day or so after this was "launched". Not that I don't think it's an admirable idea, but Devils fans are so ridiculously territorial.

Not doomed to fail at all...I brought it up yesterday to some hockey fans at work, and they ALL thought it was a damn cool idea. BTW...they're mostly Rangers fans.

it's not the idea. it's the group. this is a new media thing, and check out the majority of Devils boards and blogs and whatnot, it's about x talking to y about how much z sucks, and on the other site, y is talking to z about how much x sucks, etc, etc.

and then you go to NJ.com and you'll want to gouge your eyes out. everyone's so freaking territorial. and since obviously a number of the people involved in this are involved w/ various sites, boards, etc, that's going to carry over into the program itself.

in the building it's alot of the same thing.

that happens everywhere though. it wont be just here, it happens across ALL fan-bases.

in college it happened between the 14 of us who followed the football team that has won 1-2 games a year. we'd go to EVERY game, and for 2 seasons, we painted our chests no matter what the weather [and you know how FREAKING cold paint is during november in Buffalo]. the next year it was the same story until we managed to go 4-2 through our first 6, then out of the woodwork, students started showing up and we even got a few copy cat chest painters.

The point of this anecdote is we became so bitter with the frauds and then the people who talked sh!t about the team and they had watched all of 2 games through their college careers, its the same crap that's going on with our fan base. unfortunately, it'll never die out, cause it always happens in all fan-bases.

You obviously didn't read my previous post where I agreed with many that this ISN'T intended for the "hardcore" fans.

Can we all agree that this is first and foremost a great outlet to get the "casual" fans into the building and in the Rock?
