Official "Marty Watch" Thread

He's made a few quality, quality stops.....25 saves through 2 periods!

If STL gets their head out of their ass they could be a dominate hockey team. A lot of talent. Marty got lucky and hooked up in the right spot for the remainder of the year. It could be a hell of a swan song...

Marty tries stacking the pads. Would've had it had he kept his legs together.

I actually am enjoying watching Marty play for the Blues. It's like.. Low stress, don't care if he wins or loses. Just get to watch him do his thing.

His bottom skate got stuck on the post. STL feed showed it on the replay.

Marty 1st star of the game.

Bingo, although I am cheering for him. As I said in the chat, fun to watch him now. Don't have the stress, but his style is one of a kind for a goalie. After him, it's back to the usual butterfly stuff.

Terrific games for Devils goaltenders tonight (both should have been first stars, Cory got cheated). Nice to have nights like these during a rough season. Again though, the Blues are not looking very good.

Also, I don't know how people here can say they aren't rooting for Marty to win though, I am pretty nervous watching the Blues games.

The blues will bounce back, theyll likely pull some kind of stunt like pittsburgh or LA did.... Not doing that well and youre thinking... What the hell is up with those guys, they should do way better... And then gets on a roll right before the playoffs

This makes me happy, as long as Cory doesn't go through a bad spell and the #Truthers come out of the woodwork.

The "#Truthers" are morons.

As far as Marty goes...good for him.  I thought he would get off to a good start, so I'm not surprised, and that good start probably means he'll get a lot of games in the short term to show if this solid start is a prelude to a bigger story.  I predict some kind of dropoff at some point in the near future though...asking a 42-year-old with more miles on him than any goaltender (by a wide margin) to play well for a significant length of time is asking a hell of a lot.

I think if the Blues are smart, they will keep the 50/50 goalie situation. Don't overdo it or everything will implode.

I actually think they should probably try to ride him a little if he has another strong appearance...there's just no telling how long he'll be able to play well, and he's always felt (rightly or wrongly) that he needs to play a lot to be sharp.  Doesn't seem like the Blues have all that much faith in Jake Allen either.

Not to bring total negativity, but that's the main issue with bringing in Marty. What do you do with Elliot, when he returns? He's a damn capable good goalie. I listened to an interview with Doug Armstrong when they signed him, and they did make it seem that this is a temporary thing, and tat Marty should use this as an audition for the rest of the league. Of course that could change, but that seems crazy.

Right now, I compare Marty to a pitcher getting a ton of hard and deep hit outs. I watched a good portion of him last night, and he was on his butt after a save 5-6 times. Luckily, while the Blues have been sloppy, they've done a good job clearing rebounds and making it easier for him, but if the puck is still there, being on your ass is a disaster for a goalie. It's going to a lot of flopping eventually.

It's very impressive what Brodeur is doing for his age and the time off without any game action. He's tracking the puck very well early on.

gotta say a lot of us have quite a few crows to eat with Marty

Saying he was ridiculous to think he could get a spot on a contender... and look at him now.

Good for him and im glad he went to the Blues they are my fav team out west, so many players that i like on that team

What?  He is on the Blues, a vastly better team in every which way, including on defense.  He doesn't have a lot of work to do, especially like in that Islander game where in 2 periods he faced 2 shots (Corey faced more in a single period last night).

Also how many of us said he would probably be signed somewhere where the goalie situation either got dicey or their starters start falling to injuries.  Well lo and behold the injuries happened and here we are.

The bolded...we do?  Based on a whopping 159 minutes and 14 seconds of play?  It's too early to be making any declarations.  The one thing you can say is that he's at least played well enough to get more playing time (on what was presumably a short leash...if he stunk in his first few games, who knows what happens), but that's about it.

But let's face it...a lot of things had to break right for this to happen:

Elliot gets hurt (obviously this was the most significant domino to fall).

Marty, after drawing no interest beforehand, gets a tryout opportunity.  To his credit, he clearly showed enough to get a contract, and if he didn't, I'm sure the Blues would've said "Thanks, but no thanks."

Marty has a decent first game.

Allen doesn't get it done in the next game, so Marty comes in on relief and plays well enough to get the next game (his team also hit the back of the net six times).

Marty plays well in his next game.

Right now yeah, he's done enough to put himself into a position to get some games, but it remains to be seen how long he can keep this up for.  Like I said, I pretty much thought he would get off to a good start...it's can he continue to do it for 10+ games (regardless of how spread out his appearances are)?

oh well yeah i get what you're saying and i didnt meant to talk about his performance or anything. Be he did somehow landed on a contender. Well all thought he was delusional to even think a contender would consider him (even after a few injuries)

But at the same time we knew that there was a chance that somewhere a GM would tell himself.... well a guy with 3 rings and bla bla bla bla can bring something to the table
