NJayDevil
Have lost this media so-called "war." Acouple weeks ago when they "invited" the NHL to the table to talk again, I really bought into the fact they were going to come out with a solution. Not that day, but after a counter-proposal or 2 it would be done. But the NHL saw right through their plan and just reinstated their hold on a Salary Cap. Now it's time for the players to take the sticks out of their asses and realize they can't stick handle past the Cap. For the record I've been pro-players pretty much the whole time cause while some are making the insane big bucks, in the end in my opinion, it's the owners and GMs who sign them to these big contracts. If the owners really cared about their finanical situation they would have all agreed to each other to not sign players to big contracts like that. You know they are all buddies, they could have easily done that. But right now, it doesn't matter who was right and who was wrong in the past, which side is the blame, which side is the good side and which side is the bad side. That was the media overhyping the situation. All that sh!t is done and over with. Right now the focus should be on Goodenow and the rest of the players to take defeat (when really it isn't defeat because they are going to go back to the game they supposely love to play) . If the players don't cave before Commish sh!tbag (aka Bettman) cancels the season on Jan. 14th, all they do is lose out in paychecks and the chance to play for the Stanley Cup this year. We all know that if there's no season, there's still going to be no new talks. So they will be in the same position now as they will be in the summer or for the proposed start of next season, just without a chance for the Cup and more money. Why don't they realize this? Maybe they are just waiting until around the New Year to do it? Or maybe they just like getting their asses kicked in Europe? Time to get on the ball players. You've lost, but at the sametime, they will really win too.

Hellacious D
I can understand you sentiments, but as far as the owners getting together and simply agreeing "Hey let's keep player saleries on the whole down and not sign anyone to contracts over $X million.," aside from the fact that will never happen - it's illegal. It's called collusion and it violates just about every anti-trust law on the books.
SueNJ97
Njay, the agreement between the owners not to sign players to big contracts you were describing is called collusion. It was tried in Baseball. The owners were taken to court and they lost. Big time. It's illegal. It just can't be done over the long haul without contractual restraints on spending without a lawsuit, whatever the NHLPA may say. Because I can guarantee you that if you had seen the kind of 'restraint' that went on this year, with UFA getting relatively low offers, and some taking pay cuts to stay with their old teams, there would be a lawsuit brought by the NHLPA charging collusion against the owners. They were already upset that there were no RFA offer sheets for a long time and thought that was collusion. If EACH GM had let their RFAs sit out until they came crawling back, there would have been a lawsuit. If EACH GM had refused to pay outrageous arbitration awards, and nobody had been willing to sign these guys to something close to the award, there would have been a lawsuit. If the owners had actually practiced all the tools that would have led to the fiscal restraint necessary to make the CBA work they would have been in court. That is what is so funny about all of this. Edited December 23, 2004 by SueNJ97
Don
Is everyone going to tell NJay that such an agreement is called collusion? If so, are we allowed to cut and paste?
Devils731
NJay, the owners can't do that. Its called collusion and the league would get in a lot of legal trouble, or something like that. -Scott
Pepperkorn
You know Lou did a really good job of producing winning teams on a responsible budget. Really it's the Holik type deals that make it undoable in the end because stupid rich owners will take a solid player and pay him like he's a superstar just to fvck over his original team. That's just messed up. That kind of thinking screwed up the league along with expansion really... They win their cup with the Devils and then cash in. GMs/Owners are dicks for taking such glee in brainless shinanigans like the Holik deal and players are dicks for lacking any kind of loyalty. say owners made this bed all you want but bottom line BOTH sides created this mess with their equally understandable spiteful and opportunistic dealings. I get so damned sick of people saying Hey if you were a player would YOU take the money and run? Well how bout this ... if you were an owner wouldnt you look to dick over the team that's been a thorn in your side and repeatedly humilates you year after year on the ice? YEAH if you'd deal like you all post in the politics forum I'd just love to say to the players No it's not your fault their stupid but it is your fault your a money grubbing disloyal PIG! And the dopes like Brodeur end up jerkoffs no matter how you slice it when he's being nothing but MODERATE AND FAIR!!! Pisses me off. and it pisses me off that then these fvcknuts hold the likes of Brodeur and Sundin up as one of them. They WISH!

Pepperkorn
Instead of a cap why dont the owners just get toegther and set a market price on guys and just agree not to go above it? Duh?

LizDevil30
Can players be accused of collusion? Or only owners? Seems to me both the players and owners are colluding right now against the fans.
