thefiestygoat
Looking forward to 189 to kick off back to back UFC events for the weekend. Some of my random thoughts:Main Card- I understand why the UFC made McGregor - Mendes an Interim Title fight since they are all in on the McGregor hype train, but I still feel it's a bit of an overkill. Aldo won his belt in the WEC in 2009 and has succesfully defended it 9 times. He fought twice in 2014 so it's not like he's hardly been active.- I'm cheering for McGregor but imagine the craziness that would occur if Mendes ended up with the win. That would be a huge blow for the UFC and the way they've been building up Aldo - McGregor.- I like both Lawler and MacDonald so I'm looking forward to an entertaining fight for the Welterweight title.- Really looking forward to Nelson - Thatch. Both guys are coming off of a rare loss and are up and coming in the UFC. Should be fun.- Almeida has an impressive 19-0 record, 2-0 UFC record (with 2 perfomance bonuses), at age 23. He's only gone to a decision once (in his first UFC fight). He's going up against experience in Pickett but the veteran has lost 4 of his last 6 fights.Prelims FS1- Looking forward to the featured fight of Brown - Means. Brown is coming off of 2 losses but to quality opponents (Hendricks, Lawler) and before that had a 7 fight win streak which featured 6 KO/TKO finishes. Means is on a 4 fight win streak.- Everyone's favorite, Pendred was able to jump onto this card on short notice to take on Howard. Pendred hasn't delivered on all the hype that surrounded him entering the UFC but can't be blamed for fighting an opponent a few weeks ago that didn't want to be there and ran away most of the time. He's a (controversial) 4-0 in the UFC and I'm hoping this is where we see him deliver on the hype. Howard is on a 3 fight losing streak so it seems like the UFC is saying to Pendred, "now's the time."- I don't know much about Garbrandt other than he's a 24 year old, 6-0 (1-0 UFC) bantamweight prospect out of Team Alpha Male. His opponent, Briones, is a veteran with a 16-4-1 (1-0 UFC) record.Prelims FightPass- Another Irishman on the card in Seery. The 35 year old is 15-10 (2-1 UFC) and will take on a flyweight prospect in Smolka. The 23 year old is 8-1 (2-1 UFC).
Devlin
Looking forward to 189 to kick off back to back UFC events for the weekend. That would be a huge blow for the UFC and the way they've been building up Aldo - McGregor. Same here...really looking forward to this event! they really did a good job stacking this card along with everything for fight week coming together. I don't know if they needed to create a title fight with McGregor since he already has that built-in hype about him. I can say this much though, he has brought back a ton of people who stopped watching MMA...a bunch of friends of mine who stoped completely have jumped right back into watching I'm sure Dana and company are praying this fight goes to the "Notorious". Some of my thoughts Chad Mendes (17-2) vs. Conor McGregor (17-2) (Interim Title) - Lets Go McGregor! "I can rest my..." click below for the rest of quote from the Notorious one https://youtu.be/c6HIZX3rfpI Robbie Lawler (25-10) vs. Rory MacDonald (18-2) - Same as you, I'm not rooting for either (I like them both) and just looking forward to a great fight. Side note, I'm one of those who is in the minority who thinks GSP did just enough to get the win over Hendricks although a close fight. The challenger always needs to dominate a champion not only throughout the fight but especially in the championship round, don't leave it in the hands of the judges! Gunnar Nelson (13-1-1) vs. Brandon Thatch (11-2) - Another great match up...will it be a submission or KO? Dennis Bermudez (14-4) vs. Jeremy Stephens (23-11) - I cant go against Dennis in this one, the guy is all about cardio and I see him controlling the space. Brad Pickett (24-10) vs. Thomas Almeida (19-0) - Bleh! I thought Pickett was 40 but I think think they lied and have him at 36! this is not going to be good! lol - Everyone's favorite, Pendred was able to jump onto this card on short notice to take on Howard. Pendred hasn't delivered on all the hype that surrounded him entering the UFC but can't be blamed for fighting an opponent a few weeks ago that didn't want to be there and ran away most of the time. Howard is on a 3 fight losing streak so it seems like the UFC is saying to Pendred, "now's the time." LOL! I really don't dislike the guy and I'm actually excited about seeing him for some reason...I will once again give Pendred the benefit of the doubt since his last fight was like watching a jogging session! He really needs to deliver and get out of decision hell! I cant believe I'm back in his corner AGAIN! Edited July 9, 2015 by Devlin
thefiestygoat
Weigh ins were pretty crazy yesterday. Packed house full of Irish, McGregor - Faber sort of joking around/grappling semi serious backstage, Mendes really going at McGregor in the stare down, and the Lawler - McDonald staredown was tense as hell. Should be an awesome night of fights. LOL! I really don't dislike the guy and I'm actually excited about seeing him for some reason...I will once again give Pendred the benefit of the doubt since his last fight was like watching a jogging session! He really needs to deliver and get out of decision hell! I cant believe I'm back in his corner AGAIN! I don't post by I do like to browse R/MMA where Pendred is the GOAT. It started out with people being critical of him, then joking around referring to him as the greatest of all time, and now people are actually starting to cheer for the guy lol. He even joked about the reddit guys in his latest interview so it looks like he's having fun with it. Bizzare but in a weird way he's starting to cultivate a fan base lol. Satans Hockey
I watched the notorious marathon today too, fantastic show. I'd love to see McGregor come to WWE when he doesn't want to fight anymore. He would automatically be one of the best on a microphone if they let him be himself. I'm really hoping McGregor takes this fight tonight but Mendes is going to be tough for him. I still want to see him fight Aldo.

thefiestygoat
I don't hate the way the Reebok gear looks but I hate the way Dana White tries to spin this as a positive for the fighters. Most of them got royally screwed by it. The deal is 100% bullsh!t. Another disappointing showing for Pendred. It should've been a UD for Howard but I'm not surprised 1 judge gave it to Pendred considering the history of shady decisions that have gone his way. I know he doesn't want to fight at 185 due to size, but I can't help but wonder if cutting to 170 weakens him too much. His energy/cardio seems fine but he doesn't seem threatening in his striking. Helluva first round by Brown and Means with an amazing finish by Brown! Made up for what was a real lackluster prelim card. thefiestygoat
Another awesome finish with Stephens over Bermudez. That fight looked good but my stream was really choppy so I missed a lot of it. I'll enjoy it more when I download the event tomorrow.

thefiestygoat
Luckily I was able to find a smooth stream for the 2 title fights and holy sh!t did they not disappoint!Lawler - MacDonald was an instant classic! At one point it seemed inevitable for Rory to get the finish and belt. Great recovery and finish by Lawler in the 5th round when he was down on the judges scorecards! I have no idea what's next for Lawler but I hope we see Lawler - MacDonald 3 someday.I honestly was worried that McGregor's showboating would come back to haunt him. Mendes had that first round in my opinion and was doing well to get his takedowns. Great job by McGregor to get back to his feet late in the 2nd and then finish him off with seconds to spare. I know McGregor talks a lot of sh!t but I really do think he has respect for Mendes, especially after tonight. Hats off to both fighters! This event went from being a bit of a letdown with 5 decisions and some boring fights to start the card to an instant classic with 6 finishes in a row and 2 entertaining title fights!Don't forget that the TUF Finale is Sunday night as well as UFC Fight Night: Mir vs. Duffee on Wednesday and UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Leites on Saturday! Devlin
Glad you found a nice stream! I really was rooting for both Law and Rory! My wife was laughing at me asking who the heck do you really want to win?! GREAT fight but I feel sorry for Rory... no way he can even think of getting another title fight for awhile after again proving himself. Connor really is a fvcking beast! No doubt he has respect for Chad and after that fight I think Aldo is done. The power behind those body shots are what killed Chad... the 2 kicks to the body in the first dictated the fight. Great ending. Sent from my TAB2 using TapaTalk Edited July 12, 2015 by Devlin

Satans Hockey
That was an awesome last bunch of fights in the ppv. I loved seeing Connor back up his words. I can't wait for the Aldo match if he actually mans up and takes the fight this time. I think my biggest complaint with the reebok gear is that everyone has the same designs for their in ring gear, it's boring. Everyone was either wearing black with a white stripe or white with a black stripe. The gear they wear to the ring is all the same design with different colors too. It's boring and lazy. Shouldn't expect any less from reebok though. They suck. They should also still be able to have sponsors on their gear as long as it's not clothing related. Really great ppv though especially when the reebok gear is my only complaint haha Edited July 13, 2015 by Satans Hockey
