To NYR: Keith Yandle, Chris Summers, 4th round pick (2016)

To ARI: John Moore, Anthony Duclair, 2016 First, 2015 Second, 50% of Yandle salary retained.

Deserved its own topic I felt, since the deal is finally finalized.

Rangers paid a lot needless to say.

Good for them take the known proven talent rather than what somebody might be down the road. Duclair thriving if he does in purgatory will not come back to bite them. Based on most draft picks being a crap shoot anyway unless it's one of the top picks. Isn't that what we've been told here before?

Getting Yandle at 50% of the cap hit is pretty big. They may not win it all and probably will not but they aren't miles away like we are either.

Eh. It's one of those trades that either will work or backfire killing their future. Sather is back to his old ways of tossing away prospects and picks like they grow on trees. I can't believe they gave up Duclair. I guess that means Miller is staying. There's talk they want to bring in the talented Russian Buchnevich to Hartford. Russians are always a risk. I already wrote one post on the deal.

Sather Risks Future For Stanley Cup

Risky trade. This is absolutely go for broke. Rangers have been gutting themselves of late and now have zilch to show for in prospects and draft picks

Yandle is not even that good defensively. He's not Bourque back there or Rob Blake where he gives you a complete game.

Yep, it's a swing for the fences move. If the Rangers win the Cup, no one will care about the price. If the Rangers bow out in the early rounds for a while, this deal will be criticized. Eventually, once you become a perennial playoff contender, it's not enough to just keep getting in...you gotta take some shots. And Lundqvist isn't getting any younger. It may not work out, but I understand Sather going for it here.

He is basically a power play specialist. 26 of his 41 points are on it. A minus-32. Scary defensively. It's not a perfect fit. But AV prefers skating defensemen who can move the puck. Yandle can do that. I can't believe Sather gave up Duclair with those picks. Oh man.

Yeah, it really cluttered up the board. I had to wheel my mouse a whole half inch down to find the latest thread complaining about Lou.

Seriously, we have more people on this site who complain just for the sake of complaining than anything else.

I don't know how to feel about this one.  They gave up a lot, but Yandle is damn good.

If they win the Cup, they wont give a sh!t about the cost and neither would I if it was the Devils doing something like this to put us over the top.

Its impossible really to judge this trade today.

The thing that bugs me most about the trade is the Coyotes paying 50% of Yandle's salary. Thats one area they really won, regardless of what the picks/Duclair turn out to be. Yandle is a Rag next year for 2.5M on the cap.

true but they've got most of the defense locked up now, and they have some young guys up front that are already proving they can get it done at this level too. Might it bite them down the road sure, but I don't think they're setting themselves up for failure by any means.

Yeah, and you know what else we have a ton of?

People who complain about people complaining.

Joking aside - Rags know they have to win it with Hank or it's going to be infinitely more difficult. They really only have a few prime years left too - makes sense for them to go for it.

I love the trade for the Coyotes. They can now team Duclair and Domi like they did when Team Canada won gold at WJC. Plus the potential for Eichel or a Strome which will speed up their rebuild. They did real well in this one and the Vermette trade.
