Devils getting rid of R&R part 2 as their goal song?

That quote also prompted me to call my rep. He said that he looked at the results briefly and said that a NUMBER of fans are writing in Rock and Roll Part 2 and that it's an "overwhelming favorite". Said that he doesn't know if management will disregard the votes or not but because it's been so many fans requesting that song thinks they might not be able to...

Not surprising but nonetheless interesting, did he mention any others that were frontrunners? Or just R&R2?

Just R&R2. Didn't even mention another song. He also said that he believes if ownership wanted to eliminate something it should be the "whistle chant" and not the goal song. And more families have actually complained about that particular chant.

It's impossible to do.

It ain't just HF judging by the very public backlash this is getting. I'm just tired of this whole thing, tired of the team giving in to the PC police, tired of the fans' outrageously over the top reaction, and dreading how bad the atmosphere is going to be when fans go scorched earth after every goal.

Man why are people so attached to R&Rpt2? Not only have we used it forever but it's been used to death in just about every other sport. It's not original at all anymore and IMO it's played out.

You have to consider the types of people going batsh!t over this. From the things i've read, i don't know to be entertained or worried that there are people out there that actually think like this and you walk among them. It's scary if it's 100% genuine and not playing for effect.

Personally they are right. 100% right. We are focusing on the wrong thing. My rep was spot on. What we should be getting rid of is the whistle chant, which is 10x more offensive then the phrase "You Suck!" You can defend "You Suck" by saying what it really is: A synonyme of the word stinks. But Flyers swallow? You can't do that. Regardless this is a HOCKEY game. Not Disneyland. I understand wanting to be family friendly but this is completely misguided.

How about cutting off beer sales after the FIRST period instead of the end of the second? I'm tried of having beers thrown at me, Seeing drunks pick fights and all this nonsense. That's what management should crack down on to make the experience better for all...not the goal song.

I don't think many people get drunk off the beers at the games.  Mostly because of cost and selection of beers, I rarely see people have more than a couple.  The problem are all of the people pre-gaming in the parking lots, in the bars and on the trains before the game.  Most are already loaded as they walk into the arena.

Hold on a second, that's going way too far....

Edit: Who in their right mind would throw beer.  It is too expensive to waste.

I wonder how many other fanbases are this attached to their goal songs.  I liked R&R Part 2, many of the Devils' best and most memorable moments are punctuated by it...but damn, I never expected fans to freak out over it THIS much...granted, part of it is stemming from the very corporate way this was handled (no matter how you look at this, Devils did fire the first salvo here...if they had done initially what they're doing NOW, this could've been considerably less painful), but they've at least tried to go about the change in a better manner now.  Some franchises would've pretended not to hear.

I don't even know what it is anymore that people are so freaked out about.  Losing the song?  Not being able to say "you suck"?  The initial way the song was sacked?  Just hating the idea of being dictated to, on any level, and this is their way of saying "We're not going to take it anymore"?

And yeah, the fact that many fans are going to be pissed after the Devils score...life at the Devils' games is going to feel very alternate-universe for a while.

How can you get rid of a whistle chant? It happens the whole game. Are they going to station security around each section? Narcs?  It's not just the drunks. Some people are naturally dopey.

It doesn't matter if it's a hockey game, though. Do these people walk into a mall and carry on? A movie? Just because they pay to see a hockey game it gives someone the right to do what they want when they want? It's that sense of self entitlement and selfishness. If someone doesn't understand that by now how will they? My favorite of all this? The "If i can't say 'you suck'? Then F-you, i'll cancel my tickets and boycott the team". Scary stuff.

This has been mentioned many times but what if we're down 4-1 @ home, and we score another goal,  (R & R part 2 is played) We all yell "you suck" when it's us who sucks that particular night.

Well they do a similar thing at Red Bulls games. Security will kick out anyone chanting "obsene" chants. So it's not un-heard of. And cancelling your tickets might be a bit extreme but I look at it like this. People go for the atmopshere as much as the game itself. That seems reasonable enough. If the atmosphere is going to be deflated each game then that's a valid reason to cancel your tickets.  I agree that we are being fed horrible alternatives and being forced to put up with it. As fans and as PAYING customers we should be able to say to management "We want our old song back".

I rather see a "family friendly" section. Which has been done at other arenas.

Hard to have a family friendly section when most of the arena is chanting you suck.

Also that whole customer is always right saying is crap. Anyone who had ever spent time in retail knows this is not the case. Want affirmation? Just go check out notalwaysright.com. The stories there might sound unbelievable but they are pretty dead on to what I used to hear when I did retail. That saying is basically something jackass customers and professors teaching business THEORY like to spit out.

I think that's a good Idea.... Just the execution would be harder to pull off. Usually arena misbehavior is spread out, so they would have to figure out which section would be right. Honestly, as a kid, I sat at the top of continental airlines arena and was exposed to crazy stuff. There has to be an understanding that some crazy behavior is gonna happen as a parent. Its kinda like buying a kid an online video game. By putting them online with random people, they probably will be exposed to cursing and general stupid behavior.

Exactly.

Look a lot of us on here. (Not all of us but a good majority of us.) grew up as kids in the 90s. We were exposed to South Park in it's prime, raunchy WWF/WCW wrestling and rock music with depressing as hell lryics. Oh and bloody/violent video games such as Mortal Kombat (which caused quite a fuss back in the day)

We turned out fine. Parents should be able to "suck it up" over the phrase "HEY YOU SUCK"

Well, we also turned into people who are willing to cancel their tickets over a goal song.  So it's six of one/half dozen of the other.

I grew up in the 80's. The 90's is kindergarten in comparison.

You can definitely tell who are not parents. When/if that time comes you'll be able to relate better. You can't have your children in a bubble, but you can't have people running around acting with total disregard towards children and public places.

Here's an idea that I got from the movie The Wrestler (and apparently it's done in WWE).  I looked for a video, but couldn't find one.

When the other team scores, those who want can chant "You still suck!".   That's actually kind of clever.

I agree. However that chant is hardly "actng with total disregard towards children". If you think the average five year old hasn't heard "You suck" yet then you are strongly under-estimating the day and age we live in. I heard worse then that when I was in grammar school.

But, we're not talking about "you suck" by itself (FWIW...the Devils are lying to you in regards to it being "offensive", it was canned due to the immaturity factor....just my opinion).

We're talking about the "Flyers Swallow and....Gomez watches" version of it. Or, any other kind of F-bombs involved when you have a person yelling it every other word next to a 5 year old. What kids do among their peers is one thing. Kids love to play monkey see-monkey do (apparently so do Devils fans), but to have a grown adult act a fool is another.
