Scott Wedgewood (G): DNP, will probably only get the middle game of this weekends 3 - Call me a paranoid fan but I'm a little nervous about his playing time now that Matt Mahalak is Carolina Hurricanes property. Peter Karmanos owns both the Plymouth Whalers and the Hurricanes. It'd be a shame for Wedgewood to have to take a back seat after everything he did for them last year.

Reid Boucher (LW): Assist, +1

Swiss-A:

HC Lugano lost to EHC Biel 3-0

Mauro Jörg (RW): E, 1 Shot

again fiesty, updates are very much appreciated. in reading them it seems helgeson takes a few "roughing /(boarding" call etc. seems he plays a pretty physical game. jorg isn't doing anyhting in the swiss league, I think he's probablty a bust.

Tuesday 11/8

WHL:

Swift Current lost to Calgary 4-3 in a Shoot Out

Reece Scarlett (D): 2 Assists (1 PP), +1

EDIT: Updated with video from last night where you can see his assist. Around 1:18 he makes a nice play to keep the puck in the zone and set up the goal.

Wednesday 11/9

WHL:

Swift Current lost to Saskatoon 7-5

Reece Scarlett (D): Assist (PP), -3 - 4 game point streak (Goal, 5 Assists)

Season: 19 GP 4 G 17 A 21 Pts -11 23 PIM

In regards to his +/- keep in mind he is playing huge minutes on a horrible team and gets a lot of his points on the PP. Seems like a solid value pick so far (6th round). He's already nearly matched last years point production (72 GP 6 G 18 A 24 Pts) in just 19 games.

Totally irrelevant to the Devils, but I just got back from a OHL game featuring the Oshawa Generals and Belleville Bulls. I have to say that Malcom Subban is looking to be quite the promising young goalie. He is smooth as hell, great composure and is a competetor. Like him, a lot.

Recently named CHL goaltender of the week...

http://www.chl.ca/article/bulls-malcolm-subban-named-vaughn-chl-goaltender-of-the-week

The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Malcolm Subban of the Belleville Bulls is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 5 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 0.49 and a .982 save percentage.

After missing over a month due to injury, Subban returned to the Bulls’ net on Saturday and was solid making 29 saves and earning first star honours as part of a 2-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack. He then claimed first star honours again on Sunday stopping all 25 shots he faced in a 1-0 overtime win over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors to earn his first shutout of the season.

Subban, a 17-year-old from Rexdale, ON, is playing in his second full OHL season with the Bulls. Eligible for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, in five starts this season he has a 2.19 goals-against-average with a .928 save percentage.

Monday 11/14

Super Series:

Team OHL defeated Russia 6-3

Scott Wedgewood (G): 12 Saves on 12 Shots in 29:56 - Strong showing as he tries to make Canada's World Junior Team.

Wedgewood was hardly tested in the first period but was sharp when Russia did get shots at him during and right after their 2 power plays. He faced 10 shots in the first. Other than that, Team OHL dominated possession for almost the entire period. They opened the game with 3 consecutive power play goals which chased Suchkov. After the Russians put in Kostenko, Team OHL went on to score 2 even strength goals. The score could have easily been 6-0 as Team OHL had a puck stop almost on the goal line inbetween the third power play goal and first even strength goal.

Team OHL added a 6th goal early in the second period. Wedgewood made a few saves while Russia was employing an aggressive penalty kill but really was not tested at all facing just 2 shots before leaving midway through the period. Russia scored 2 goals quickly after Anderson took over in net for Wedgewood and also got a goal right at the end of the period to cut the lead in half.

Notes:

Last year Wedgewood got a win for Team OHL sharing a shutout with Scott Stajcer in London.

Team OHL is now 18-0 against Russia in the Super Series.

The Super Series continues with games against Team WHL on 11/16 and 11/17.

Previously Russia defeated Team QMJHL 2-0 on 11/7 and 5-4 on 11/9 but lost to Team OHL 10-7 on 11/10.

Thanks man, good work as always. It's interesting that Boucher doesn't seem to be as productive as of lately - I wonder why.

Let's not forget he's been in the OHL for all of three months now. The league is learning about him as he learns about the league. Also, the OHL is not the USHL, or whatever league he played in prior. Still, he put up some more point this weekend. Good to see.

I'm really interested in finding someone who follows Sarnia that can give us an assessment on how his defensive game is coming along. He may be a streaky point producer but he's shown he has the natural offensive skill to do that. Hopefully I'll be able to find a scout or reporter that would be willing to share an opinion on how his defensive game progressed (or lack thereof) by the end of the season.

I have plenty of buddies who scout OHL. I'll ask one of them for their opinions of him. From what I gather his skating still needs work and his consistency could be better.
