The problem with TC is that he leaves starters in when they're clearly gassed, and waits until after the sh!t hits the fans before he reacts. It's been an issue with him since he got here. Colorado Rockies 1976 Posted May 15, 2014 Share Posted May 15, 2014 I hear what you're saying, but at the same time, he's gotten burned by leaving starters in too long a lot, especially when certain guys (like Gee, for example) have shown a penchant for tiring beyond a certain pitch count very quickly. And Passive's 90-win prediction aside, we all know this is a team that might flirt with .500 for the season at best...some of the current starting pitchers are going to figure into 2015...why blow them out? Weird considering he was their 'closer' before the last couple of days and he's not the worst reliever in a bad pen...but typical Mets. The fact that he's a hard thrower has almost given him a lefty's "never quite finished" longevity to his career, but almost everywhere he's been, he hasn't lived up to the promise of what his stuff suggested he could be. At any rate, glad the Mets are finally taking out the trash and getting rid of dry-well options like Farnsworth. Sadly, Vic Black continues to have control issues: 5 BB in his last two outings, in 2.1 IP, after having not walked anyone in his previous four appearances. Speaking of Black, anyone remember Dilson Herrera? Or Kyle Johnson? Herrera was the player-to-be-named in the Marlon Byrd trade (he's a second baseman who is also now playing shortstop this season), and outfielder Kyle Johnson came over from the Angels for Collin Cowgill. Herrera is currently in A+ ball (St Lucie) and is doing OK for a recently-turned-20-year-old. Kind of hard to say what he's going to be at the plate...he's pretty good at a lot of things, but nothing about any of his lines really jump out at you either. He's got some speed and can steal some bases too. If he continues at his current rate, he might see time in Binghamton before the end of the season. Probably at least 2-3 years away. Kyle Johnson, who went to college first and is now in Binghamton, is up there in age (24.5) but has been a pretty good minor-league performer to date. He hits for a pretty good average (.314 this season, .291 for his minor-league career) and gets on base too (.382 in the minors). He doesn't possess much power, but has been a base-stealer in the past, and he's slugging .443 so far...it'll be interesting to see if he can stay there for a full season. If he gets to the majors, it will probably be as a fourth outfielder-type, but depending on how he progresses, we may see him as soon as mid-late 2015. I hate to be the advocate of EY but they 'have' won when he's been in the lineup, and his speed gives them a dimension they need. CY is more useless, same crappy BA and strikeouts without the running threat, only with more power...but rumor is they guaranteed him at-bats. Which is insane, not only do you give the guy $7 million - a ridiculous overpayment - but you had to guarantee him AB's too?! Come on Sandy. John Sterling is not exactly a fountain of baseball knowledge, but I listened a bit to the Yankees broadcast in the car yesterday and he made a good point. Sterling basically said that the walls were brought in and now the dimensions are not quite as imposing...but that players repeatedly tell him that the ball flat out DIES here for whatever reason. Sometimes you see a guy murder the ball and the fielder catches it before the warning track. Yankee stadium has a jet stream but for whatever reason Citi is death valley.The Mets hitters have their heads messed with. They go to Yankee stadium and feel like a real offense, they come home and it's the dead ball era. You have hitters who constantly have to change their approaches upon returning home.Does this effect other teams? It does...not like the opposition is blasting the ball out of here. Of course they do hit some more hr's than the Mets because opposing teams generally have better offenses. But opposing teams dont deal with the psychological issues of Citi Field either because they play here sparingly and dont press like the Mets. The Mo's zone in right needs to be gotten rid of completely. There needs to be no well, no indentation in there at all I didn't see the ball Wright hit off of Tanaka in the first inning yesterday, but listening in the car it sounded like a sure HR...then Sterling breathes a sigh of relief when it's caught. That was HUGE, going up 2-0 in the 1st would've been a massive shot in the arm. You could hear a thundering crack over the radio. Yet it was a fly out. I couldn't believe it. this is not the first time the Mets have raked on the road to come back and stink it up at home. Happened too many times since this ballpark opened.
