Rags fire Tortorella

As for Lundqvist I'd think it's possible he'd leave, but he's going to be 32 when he goes UFA.    I don't know what kind of deal he's going to be able to get.

Maybe shorter term/big money, but the top teams are going to have already spent themselves into oblivion by that point.    He'll probably be squeezed into staying there unless he just totally loses his mind and gets traded.

I don't think this is true.  There will always be a team willing to pay top dollar and that's the first year where the cap will expand again.  That said, I don't think he leaves, but he certainly could if he wanted to.

What would make Rag$ fans heads explode:  sign Lunqvuist as a UFA after Marty retires.

I always felt signing and rejuvenating Hugh Jessiman's career would be pretty satisfying.  It's about as likely as Lunqvist signing here.

wow this is big news... has to be because of Lundqvist.

and speaking of... sure, Torts isn't bad, he stuck to his shot blocking style.  but i would still contribute most of his success to Lundqvist- if its one or the other the obvious choice is keeping Hank

Incarcerated Bob takes educated guesses. We were talking about Torts being fired weeks ago. There was a whole thread on it.  Bob just says 'confirmed' and people think he's a genius.

It would be a great move for them. I hope they don't hire him.

yep. Bob just throws sh!t at the wall. Something is bound to stick. He's still an idiot and crap source.

Can you imagine how much money the Flyers would throw at him if he ever became a UFA?

Anyone think Messier is a candidate?

I hope so.  Too many former players flop when they coach, so it'd be great if they let him jump in with no real coaching experience.

Sadly, since he was passed over for the assistant GM slot and given a made up position, I'm thinking Sather isn't keen on giving Messier decision making power.

Messier's been mentioned as a candidate by Katie Strang and Darren Dreger. I don't think they'll do it, though.

Sather or any Rangers GM would never do it. Messier can do no wrong in Ranger fans eyes. He could be MacLean bad, and you couldn't fire him.

Replacement names that will be bandied about

Messier

Ruff

Ted Nolan

:)

On Sirius XM today Scott Laughlin and Phil Esposito suggested Ruff, Alain Vigneault and Guy Boucher.  Laughlin still discussing why Messier should be GM if Slats retires.

I'm sure they could.   But the better question is why would you hire someone like that, with zero coaching experience?   Unless you have a great bench coach with him, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

I didn't think of this, but it would actually make sense. It would play to all the moronic Rags fans that want to cling to anything and everything 1994, and Messier is already in the system. It'd be a simple promotion

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/rangers/tortorella-fired-head-coach-rangers-article-1.1357541

“Multiple players,” including some “top guys,” pushed for the firing of their demanding and combative 54-year-old coach, a source said, and they got their wish on Wednesday afternoon, just four days after the Blueshirts were bounced from the playoffs by the Boston Bruins.
